Red blooded, blue fish, yellow river / Sangre roja, pez azul, rio amarillo

La versión en español está después de la versión en inglés.

It’s almost 12:30 and I just finished breakfast. I was up at 8:30, gave the cats their treats shortly after, and then couldn’t stay awake. I went back to bed until 11, but I’m trying hard to not allow it to affect my mood. It hasn’t been the most energetic week despite the excitement of my Cirque du Soleil stardom. I did, however, manage a few walks and I plan to go on another shortly.

The week began Monday with a trip to the hospital for a CT scan. Wednesday was a trip to public health to update my doctor there. I’m now waiting for an appointment with a public health nephrologist, a requirement to get my new medication approved. Until then I have to pay out of pocket. At least it’s not American prices. €113 a month for 2 or 3 months.

Friday was another round of lab work. I had to yet again collect 24 hours of pee. This time I only brought 2 litres (as opposed to the 3 litres a few weeks ago). I could have brought a little more but I didn’t feel like running to the pharmacy for another “jug.” When you were young, did you enjoy creating funny book titles and authors? One of my favorites was “Yellow River” by I.P. Daily. Another was “Green River” by I.P. Peculiar. And who can forget “Constipation” by Anita Pu?

The nurse extracted 8 tubes of blood. It’s a wonder I was able to stand up after. When he did the last one, I said, “I don’t think I have any more.” He said with a grin, “I don’t either.” I think his name was Vlad.

I finally saw two of the plastic-eating fish along the Paseo. There’s now one about 10 minutes from us in our neighborhood and another about 25 minutes away, past the port.

We’ve been to Mesón Salvador a few times. I’ve shared a photo below of the excellent cheese cake San Geraldo and I shared. They make the best in town. I have food porn pictures to share in the coming days. Now, it’s time to get out for that walk before the bed calls to me once again.

• The setting sun lights up a palm tree.
• El sol poniente ilumina una palmera.
• Under the tea table, one of Dudo’s favorite spots. However, this is the first time I’ve seen him back that far. Nice place to rest his chin, I guess.
• Debajo de la mesa del té, uno de los lugares favoritos de Dudo. Sin embargo, esta es la primera vez que lo veo tan lejos. Supongo que es un buen lugar para descansar la barbilla.

  1. Boud sez that’s a very nice picture of a phone being held by somebody..Nice scenery
I hope your health improves, fewer doctor appointments, more admiring the scenery.

    1. Boud:
Yes! I loved that phone photo, too. The juxtaposition of the mobile phone with the bottle of Coke and then the green drawstring. Fascinating.

  2. Speaking of CT scans……just got my appointment date for one/sinus.
Sounds like you are moving right along with your recovery. Keep up the good work.

    1. Bob:
Oh, I hadn’t even noticed the hot guy. I simply found the phone and green drawstring aesthetically pleasing. (Ahem.)

  3. Ugly fish. Nice Muscle Mary!

I love how the light catches that palm tree, too. With the ancient arch also in view, it could almost be Egypt…

    1. Jon:
I love having local Roman ruins right across the street. And the muscles are everywhere. Love that book by Eileen Dover!

  4. That third picture down is not food porn, or, really, porn at all, but as the song goes, yummy, yummy, yummy, I got love in my tummy (and something else a bit lower.)

    1. Debra:
There should always be a balance, I think. I don’t share photos of the hot women because THAT would be inappropriate coming from me.

  5. The Dudo-under-the-tea-table photo is adorable, and gave me a big smile.
So, is this plastic-eating fish the thing that you’ve been walking all over the place to find?
No, I never made up book titles — yours are fabulous!

    1. Judy C:
Yes. The blue fish are what I’ve walked the streets in search of. They’re finally here. I wonder if the other two are installed, as well. If I can wake myself up long enough, I’ll try and explore again.

  6. Lots of pee and blood! This was the bodily fluids post! Haha.

Your made up book titles and authors reminded me of the old Car Guys radio show on NPR. One of the “sponsors” mentioned at the end was a law firm called “Dewey Cheatum and Howe”. Lol.

    1. finlaygray:
I’m being well taken care of. (And sometimes my attitude doesn’t suck.)

  7. I have a weird neurosis about having blood tests. It’s not the drawing of the blood. That doesn’t bother me. It feels like a huge invasion of one of my most private private things- my very blood which they analyze and discover secrets in. MY secrets. I wonder if other people feel this way.
Okay. You finally took a picture of a person who knows how to dress correctly, right down to the tidy white socks and shoes.
Ummm…please send me a piece of that cheesecake? I can feel it calling to me.
Your photos are always a sun-drenched joy to me.
    Ms. Moon

    1. Ms. Moonsigh:
There’s a lot of sun-drenching going on here, and usually pleasant days not too hot and not too humid. I’m sure you’re not alone in your feelings about blood tests. I don’t mind at all and love watching the blood flow into the tubes — although it was a bit much this time. Mesón Salvador has mastered cheesecake (and this is from a former New Yorker who couldn’t abide any other kind).

  8. Yes, like Kelly, I was going to say my copy of “Yellow River” was by IP Freely. Maybe it’s the one more popular in the South. 🙂

I like the fish! I hope they round up lots of plastic. The question is, where does it go from there?

Now I’m singing “Muscles” by Diana Ross.

    1. Steve:
I do sing Muscles a lot when I’m out walking! I hope all that plastic is successfully recycled!
