They say it’s my birthday / Dicen es mi cumpleaños

La versión en español está después de la versión en inglés.

Yeah, it’s my birthday. San Geraldo sang to me at midnight and again at 8, and I went back to sleep both times. I’m happy to be here and so grateful to have San Geraldo. But… Yes, there’s a but.

HOWEVER, I’ve got a cold and sore throat. I thought it was allergies a few days ago, but it’s gotten worse. I did a Covid test. Negative, yay! I’ll go to the pharmacy for some magic treatment for the symptoms. Instead of celebrating tonight (I don’t want to take a cha-cha-cha-chance) with Lucia from La Fabbrica and her cohort, Jaime, who started a new job today, we’ll delay until next week when I’ll be feeling as fit as a fiddle. So, we’re not going to a party party. (Enough with the Beatles references.) San Geraldo just went to El Corte Inglés to pick up some birthday empanadas for lunch.

That’s me above excited to be 6 months old and me below excited to be 28. Then there’s a card I received from a thoughtful cousin several years ago. That says it all.

  1. Happy Happy Happy!
    Feel better and then celebrate!!!
I want you laughing like the first photo and dancing a jig like the second photo and holding up the “This many” finger all at the same time!

    1. Bob:
I thought of trying one of those faces for a birthday photo but just wasn’t feeling it. Thanks.

      1. Sixpence Notthewiser:
¡Gracias! It was a pleasant day despite not being up to snuff.

    1. David:
Do you know better? I wish you could explain it to me. I DON’T know better but I still don’t care.

  2. Awww, feel better quickly. Happy, happy birthday! May you celebrate all month long. Olivia

  3. I’m so glad you were born, Mitch 🙂 You brighten so many lives, and you’ve taught me about so much through your wonderful blog. Happy birthday month!

    1. Judy C:
You are so kind. So grateful to Walt and Ken for enabling us to find each other.

    Hugs!

  5. That could, in fact, be the most joyful and darling six-month old portrait ever taken. I want to reach back in time and grab that baby up and snorgle his neck until he laughs and laughs.
And can you remember what was making you so excited when the second picture was taken?
I’m so sorry you’re sick on your birthday. I’m so glad you have a sweetheart like SG to sing to you.
Happy birthday to you. I’m so glad we’ve met.
    Sra. Luna

    1. Sra Luna:
The second photo was taken by SG’s mother, Alice, in Zion National Park. I can’t remember why I was doing that, but it was the kind of thing she and I did. She brought joy to my life. I am so grateful to have connected with you. thanks!

  6. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MITCHELL!!! I hope you feel better soon. Maybe it’s just new things blooming in your environment (new city) that are messing with you. At least it’s not Covid!

    1. Kelly:
Grass pollens are apparently awful right now, but this is the same cycle I had a few weeks ago. Feel coldish. Worse the second day. Awful the third day. And then improving. And my resistance is non-existent. But this is Day 4 and I’m so much better.

  7. Happy birthday, fellow Gemini! Sorry you’re sick. My birthday was the 3rd and apparently I did something to my knee the day before (that’ll teach me to do housework) and I spent the day hobbling around with an ice pack. But, we Geminis are resilient. Onward!

    1. TexasTrailerParkTrash:
Housework is dangerous! I hope the knee is much better now. Thanks!

  8. Well, Happy Birthday, despite the mysterious ague. Here’s hoping it proves inconsequential. (The ague, not the birthday.) I love how you look both happy and terrified in that top picture — an appropriate response to life, it seems to me.

    1. Steve:
I wish I could go back in time and be a witness to that photo shoot when I was 6 months old.

  9. Happy BIRTHDAY to you dear!!!!!!! Now get ready and pucker up to receive a surprise!!!!
    🍸🎂💋🎈🎊🎉

*runs off to get lip balm applied and get the birthday candle ready*

  10. That baby picture had me grinning from ear to ear. You looked to have been a joy then, you’re a joy now. Happy Birthday my Dear Friend.

  11. Happy Birthday, Scoot! When you feel better, I’m sure there’ll be some chocolate cake calling your name!

  12. ¡Felices Cumpleaños! You look pretty much the same as you did at six months. I hope you feel better soon. Then you’re gonna have a good time.

    Love,
    Janie

  13. Better late than never? I do hope so – so Very Many Happy Returns for yesterday and for you going forward and on. Very much hope this finds you better than when you wrote your post. If not, my best wishes for a speedy return to your ‘normal’. Take care, Sweetie Pie!
