We had a respite from the extreme heat for several days, but the warnings have returned. A moderate warning today which will clearly upgrade to extreme later this week. The weekend will again bring temperatures over 40C/104F. We’ve been blessed with pleasant days in the 30s/90s until now.
Here are some shots of what the city looked like Sunday afternoon even in the moderate heat. I tend to have the streets to myself (because I’m dumb enough to be outside). Today’s song is what always played in my head when I walked around NYC in summer. Perfect.

El fin de semana volverá a traer temperaturas superiores a los 40°C/104°F. Hasta ahora hemos tenido la suerte de disfrutar de días agradables con temperaturas entre 30 y 90.
Aquí les dejo algunas fotos de cómo se veía la ciudad el domingo por la tarde, incluso con el calor moderado. Suelo tener las calles para mí solo (porque soy lo suficientemente tonto como para estar afuera). La canción de hoy es la que siempre sonaba en mi cabeza cuando paseaba por Nueva York en verano. Perfecta.

Summer in the City by the Lovin’ Spoonful is the summer song of my teenage years. Lots of memories. And now today’s earworm.
Cordoba clearly takes siesta seriously. Can’t imagine any sizeable town/city in the US looking quite so empty midday. Not smart enough here to come in out of the heat or the rain. 🙂 Mary

Some songs will be forever in my heart and mind. This is one. It evokes memories of walking down the street with my sister trying to look cool.
I love how they did the sloped entrances to the churches, making them accessible without making them ugly. I have seen that on dozens of churches in Spain.

For six decades, I thought he was singing “hotter than a match, yeah”! Love the song though. It’s going to hit 104F here today. I’m staying couped up and semi-cool in my hermit home.

So happy to enlighten you. I used to think the lyrics to La Bamba were Badada bada la bamba! 104 is too hot to be out, unless you’re an idiot like me.
“Summer in the City” is one of the first songs that I purchased as a kid. Thanks for the blast to the past! Our heat is returning this week too. 104 just sounds so awful.

There are some songs from the 60s that described life so well. This is one. 104 here is nothing like 104 where you are. Real feel is also 104.
We are supposed to get up to 97 today, but the real feel is 105. So it will be an early walk for the dogs this morning.
It’s hot here now too. We are getting into the 90s now. If I didn’t know better, the town pictures could have been from Covid days when everything was closed down…but the pictures are still lovely to look at. I love the biudling in the third picture down on the right. It has two turrets on either side on the white building. Stunning. A hotel???

That building is the H10 Palacio Colomera hotel. Stunning. It was originally the private home of the Colomera noble family, built in 1928.
Thankfully, we didn’t hit the 40C mark in any of our three heatwaves (so far this year) – but the highest was 37.7C/99.9F at the end of June, which is a good as, given where we are in London, 970 miles further north…

We’ve been broiling here on the Canadian prairies too for last few days, but it’s supposed to rain tomorrow, so hopefully that will ease the high humidity levels. Like dry cold, dry heat is more bearable, LOL!

I’m thankful ours is a dry heat. It’s supposed to reach 38+ today with humidity of 17 percent.
Odd seeing the leaves on the ground in that one photo. It reminds me more of fall than summer.

I had to look again. You’re right. Maybe the leaves got toasted.
The same song plays in my mind on these hot days. Your sky is such a beautiful blue. The good thing about the massive thunderstorms we’ve been having is we still need the rain, and the temperature drops some. Do you feel as if you have the city to yourself?

Yes, the blue of the sky is brilliant. Currently we’ve got lots of clouds. A nice change. There are still people around. Locals will just about completely vacate in August. Many tourists don’t know what it’s like here in August and will still be getting in my way.
Yup, that pretty much sums it up. We’re under a “heat dome” here this week. Depressing the Hell out of me; me and heat just do not get along. Don’t know how you do it?
We are also getting wild fire smoke. I understand that fires are prominent in Spain this season, as well.

So far no serious fires near us but a major tragedy several hours away in Almeria. More to come I’m sure.
The vacant streets/sidewalks remind me of ‘covid days’.
Stay safe and hydrate/1 cup of H20 an hour ‘they’ say.

I’m grateful that when I’m out wandering on afternoons like that, it doesn’t have the feel of those covid days. No worries about hydration. I go through 2 to 3 liters a day.
