My baby goin’ fishin’ too / Mi amor también se va a pescar

I never got around to writing yesterday. We went to pick up more shrimp in the morning and San Geraldo ended up buying fish (at my urging). There are actual fish in the fish tank! SG decided to get two different kinds of tetras. The first, the rummy-nose or red-nose tetra is a schooling fish. There were 10 in the shop, so SG took them all. One of their names in Spanish is tetra borracho (drunk tetra) because of their red “noses.” José thought they were runny-nose tetras in English, so I explained to him the meaning of rummy in Amerian slang. If you don’t know, it’s drunkard. That’s what my mother called people she thought drank too much.

I watched José net the fish and put them in a plastic bag. One fish immediately flopped on its side and José said it looked sick. I asked, “Don’t you want to remove it right away?” He laughed and said, “Watch this.” A number of the others flopped on their sides and some looked dead. He said they do that to fool predators. No one wants to eat a sick fish.

The other fascinating thing was that their previously red faces had completely faded. SG had warned me about that. Within a half hour of placing them in the tank, their “noses” were a rummy red again which by the evening was vivid.

The other fish are called white fin rosy tetras. Most of these have black and white dorsal fins, which are striking. SG also bought four more red shrimp. I think they’re different from the three cherry reds he already has, but I’m not sure (and neither is he).

After lunch at home, I pushed myself out of the house for a walk and I ended up walking for 2-1/2 hours. I only took 199 photos (be prepared). What a great day. I was pooped by the time I got home at 7:45, so relaxed until dinner. I needed to refill a prescription and thought I would just do that along my walk. I stopped in a pharmacy, gave her my health card, and she told me it didn’t work. She thought I needed to replace the card. She asked if I had my national ID. I gave it to her. She scanned it and said it was also not working and that I needed to have them both replaced. I told her I had never had a problem before so I’d check at my neighborhood pharmacy. It was an extra 6 minutes after all my walking. My card was swiped and my prescription was filled.

Today’s top image is something I saw along my walk yesterday. It seemed fitting with today’s theme.
