Where did Noah keep the shrimp?

I finally cleaned the filter on the clothes washer. I’ve been thinking about it for months and it took all of 5 minutes yesterday. I patted myself on the back, put in a load of towels, mostly the ones used by San Geraldo for his aquarium. A few minutes later, I heard an alarm beeping in the laundry room. I opened the door to find water covering half the floor.

I immediately turned off the machine before running through the apartment to grab as many towels as I could for clean-up. It took six bath sheets and two more smaller bath towels. Old ones on reserve for situations like this. After cleaning it all up, I moved everything back into position, and, as I moved the mop and bucket back into the corner, it dawned on me that they might have come in handy.

I had neglected to tighten the filter when I reinserted it. I then loaded the machine and spun the excess water out of the towels before washing them all. When Merchi saw all the towels today, I told her what had happened. She pointed to the mop and bucket. “Yes,” I told her, “I did finally think of that.” I got an eye roll. I’ve been singing to myself, “The lord said to Noah, there’s gonna be a floody floody.”

After enjoying second breakfast today, we took a taxi to the aquarium shop to pick out shrimp and snails, cleaning crew. José didn’t have many shrimp but come Friday expects to have the ones SG especially wants, Japanese amano shrimp which are supposed to be amazing algae eaters. So, I’ll give him a call before we return.

Meanwhile, we came home with three very young “super red” shrimp, Neocaridina davidi. I think they’re also known as Cherry Shrimp. We also came home with a young black transparent amano shrimp. They seem to already be enjoying their new, larger, and luxurious digs. We can’t tell the red ones apart, so they will remain nameless. However, the transparent shrimp is the only one of his kind in SG’s tank. He’s also active and gregarious. SG wanted to name him, since he’s readily identifiable.

I thought since he’s one of those invisibile shrimp (sort of) he should be named after The Invisible Man. Every variation of that name was uninspired. In the book, he only had his last name, Griffin. In the 1933 film, his name was Jack and in the 2020 film, he was Adrian. Yo, Adrian. Then I remembered Claude Rains played him in 1933. San Geraldo liked the name Claude. I thought he should be Claude Rains, but SG thought that was too much to remember (consider Inés Rosales). So, I’d like to introduce Claude, above. We’ll see if SG even remembers that.

We also brought home a decent-sized zebra nerite snail. It’s a beauty. SG is closing in on his choices for fish. We saw some today we both especially liked and are very good options from SG’s list. Once all the shrimp are here and settled, he’ll move on to the fish.

This post was supposed to go up immediately after lunch. I got distracted. Yesterday I received a text from the dentist that my new retainers were in. I said I’d pick them up today before lunch. At 6:30 p.m., she texted me and asked if I had lunch Spanish time or American time. Then I remembered I also had that load of towels to take down from the roof before sunset. Such a busy day!

Me distraje.

• The pile of sopping wet towels in background behind the unused, but wiped down, mop and bucket.
• It seemed like so many more when they were sopping wet on the floor.
• Before they were let out of the bag.
