What a lightweight I’ve become. The humidity was between 60 and 70 percent when I went out walking around noon today. I thought I was going to die. It was warm, but not extremely hot. Hours later, it’s 37% which is still high for us.
I visited two more Fernandine churches and tried yet again to visit the Roman temple next to City Hall. It was closed for renovation when we arrived in the city. I waited more than a year and the work was finally completed. Then it was closed because the summer heat was just too much. I understood. Today, the “closed due to extreme heat” sign was gone, but the gate was still locked and I couldn’t make sense of the posted hours. Now I understand (by reading online) there are 45-minute guided tours at 10 and 11 during the week. I was too late. Better luck next time.
I’ll share churchy stuff in the coming days. It can all be quite interesting, but the display of wealth can be (for me at least) obscene. I’ve now visited three of the churches (one yesterday) and wonder if I’ll be able to get through all 12. Interesting photos anyway.
While out yesterday on my way to another church, I came upon a florist I especially like and saw a yellow orchid in the window. It was just what we needed to keep our other orchids company (one is still in bloom), so I bought it and then made my way directly home. That was a good thing anyway, because my digestive system started to act up and I made it home with little time to spare. I’m waiting to be scheduled for a test that may or may not offer another reason for my problems (as opposed to just blaming it on meds). I think this test might also prove I’m a genius (or so that asshole in The White House might suggest if he took it).
Speaking of loads, I washed a big one of towels yesterday. When I returned from the roof with the folded stack, I found San Geraldo already had another towel on the floor in front of his aquarium, in case he splattered while placing new plants. It never ends.
I was impressed to see SG easily use his iPhone to program the lights on his aquarium. This is the man who told me after about a year, “Look! My phone has a camera!” I grabbed the phone and said, “Look! I took a picture of you with the camera the very first day!”
¡Me he vuelto tan delicado!
