Happy VD. Tonight we’re going over to Mesón Salvador for their annual Saint Valentine’s Dinner. San Geraldo and I have always ignored Valentine’s Day, except for our very first one together. We only started observing it at all because Mesón Salvador’s special dinners are so good (click here for an example). No one is available to go with us. I asked — innocently I swear — if SG still wanted to go since we’d be going alone. He laughed and considered that a question with only one acceptable answer.

Also on the schedule for today is my first professional beard trimming. Barbería Dimitri Patrick, where I’ve chosen to go, calls it “Beard Ritual.” I had the option of simply getting “Beard Design” but I thought I’d shoot the moon — for an additional €3.

I read in the local paper that one of the old chiringuitos (beach bars), Restaurante Botavara, had been destroyed in the recent storms. It’s over 3 km / 2 miles from us, almost to the castle, and is the chiringuito with the least amount of beach between the building and the surf. I decided to take a walk yesterday afternoon. Today’s photos are what I saw there and along the way. It wasn’t a bad day for a long walk.

I’m about to walk to the gym. The wind is still blowing and the surf is rough. At least I don’t have to swim there.

.

I asked — innocently I swear — if SG still wanted to go since we’d be going alone. He laughed and considered that a question with only one acceptable answer.

• The boats docked along that wall in the port take a beating.
• The showers need more than a plumber.
• Las duchas necesitan más que un fontanero.
• The lifeguard stand is now a lifeguard lean.
• A few years ago and yesterday. • Hace unos años y ayer.

  1. It’s extra nice to do something a little extra something for Valentine’s Day just for the fun of it!!!

These storms everywhere are really taking tolls on beachfronts all over the globe I just read. Erosion is way up.

    1. Mistress Borghese:
Our shoreline has changed significantly. I think the city will be hauling in more sand after this season.

    1. Wicked Hamster:
This is hilarious. I want to memorize it (but I won’t). This is the kind of thing I do that drives SG crazy.

  2. Happy Valentine’s Day to you and SG! It’s a silly holiday, but why not celebrate for the fun of it?

    Love,
    Janie

  3. I’m fascinated by that last photo of the fingers! Is there a story behind that? I’ve meant to say… I love how you have your header set to change photos. Dudo was sprawled across the screen yesterday and looked so cute!

    1. Kelly:
We have two of those on the beach in Fuengirola, one right across the street from us. They’re fun and popular and make for some great photos. I was surprised to see them at a monument business just outside of town available for sale.

    1. Jon.
They were closed for the season and now they’re seriously closed for the season. I’m assuming they were insured. I wonder if they’ll even be permitted to rebuild there.

    1. Steve:
We’ve got one of those hands — taking palm trees literally — right across the street.

  4. Granddaughter received a Bow and many Arrows for Christmas. So I have the right tools for interesting Valentines Day !
    cheers !

    1. Kirk:
Yes it does. We’ve got two of those sets of fingers in Fuengirola, one across the street from us.
