After the parade passes by / Después de que pase la cabalgada

Today’s views from the Three Kings parade struck me as interesting or odd (or both). The crescent moon over the Torre de la Malmuerta (click here) was a nice start. I couldn’t capture it well with my phone, but you get the idea.

Then there were the surprising crowds standing out in the cold, which warmed up the air a bit. The police department and fire department had contingents. The fire department had an emergency vehicle loaded with bags of candy. Ready for an emergency. There were a group of women dancing with glowing balls. San Geraldo thought maybe they were the vestal virgins. I wonder whose balls.

So, now the holiday is over and I can focus on other things. I need to cut my hair and beard, but I can’t find the charger for my shaver. I bought a new extra-long (I thought) shower curtain for my bathroom to replace the not long enough shower curtain I had bought. The new one is the same length as the previous. I still haven’t used my shower. (However, I have showered.) We bought two magnifying mirrors for our bathrooms. San Geraldo put his up and discovered the magnification is much too strong. So I now have to buy another new one. I feel like I’m buying a lot of “another new ones.”

The sofa covers will be delivered Saturday. I think I’ll take some photos of the living room despite the fact that the comfy, bold chair won’t be here for possibly a few more weeks. We’ll be getting a new clothes washer and a new refrigerator soon. We have to shop. The best part is we’re not paying for them.

Now, back to work. There are still pictures to be hung and spaces to be cleaned and organized. I need to get back to it while I’m still in the mood.

Todavía no he usado la ducha (sin embargo, me he duchado).

Ahora, vuelvo a trabajar. Aún quedan cuadros por colgar y espacios por limpiar y organizar. Necesito retomarlo mientras aún tengo ganas.

• Pleading for candy from the firemen. You can’t tell here, but the fireman on the right brought a lot of heat.
• How every emergency vehicle should be equipped.
• Vestal virgins with glowing balls?
• ¿Vírgenes vestales con bolas brillantes?
• The sense that a party is going on all around you but you’re not part of it. I’ve felt like that at times in my life. Have you?

  1. Looks like a lot of candy, were you feeling faint so the nice fireman could rescue you? I remember a couple of times needing the shower length, not tub length shower curtains. Nothing worse than things being shorter than expected.

    1. David:
I think that nice fireman made a lot of people feel faint. So annoyed with myself about the shower curtain. I’ll get to use all of my bathroom yet!

  2. Lol!!!! The guy in the last looks like the grumpy old man!!!! That is quite the turn for the parade. And im guessing that firemen you pointed out is good at putting them out….or making them worst.

    1. Adam:
I’d never heard of the candy throwing in the US. Do you get Santa throwing coal instead?

    1. wickedhamster:
You can at least tell it was a crescent moon. I cracked up when I saw the emergency vehicle. I need an IV. STAT.

  3. I wonder why that man looks so sad. Considering all the candy being thrown around. And the fireman.. Eye candy, too.

  4. I love the photo of the moon. I wish some nice, young firemen would bring me candy. Oo la la. Buying a second shower curtain of the same length is exactly what I would have done. It’s a talent we share, Scooter.

    Love,
    Janie

And now I’m too lazy to send it back. I’ll probably put them both in the closet for years down the line when SG needs a new shower curtain. I wish I could send you a fireman. With candy.

      1. I, too would not bother to send it back. Besides, you never know when you might need that extra shower curtain. Candy’s dandy but liquor’s quicker.

  5. I wonder if the alone man’s face in this picture really captures his feelings or if he just had a sudden thought about something that caused that expression. But yes, I have certainly felt alone in a crowd. I think it’s a pretty universal feeling and it is lonelier by far than actually being alone.
Sad the shower curtain wasn’t long enough. Was it broad enough though?

    1. Ms. Moon:
Alone Man stood like that for a long time. I don’t think he was thrilled to be there for yet another year. Maybe he was diagnosed as diabetic. I watched him as the joy and conversation swirled around him. Both shower curtains have been broad enough. I have a curved, walk-in shower in the corner of my bathroom and that requires a shower curtain that lays on the floor. I really should have shower doors installed, but it’s just another expense.

  6. It sounds as if your apartment is coming together nicely despite the shower curtain issue. That man in the final photo does indeed look like the party has passed him by. And why are firemen usually very “hot”?

    1. Michael:
The apartment IS coming together nicely. Just a bit more slowly than our usual. Yeah, fireman. They do need to be fit to do that job.

  7. I think I would rather not see myself magnified. In fact, I’d like a distancing mirror!

That guy with his hands in the air in the third photo looks like Steve Bannon.

Yeah, what’s up with the balls?!

    1. Steve:
Imagine 10X magnification! You’re right about the Steve Bannon look-alike (although the Spanish version looked a bit more healthy).

  8. I hope that man was just momentarily sad because the parade was over. Or maybe the firemen ran out of candy just before him?

    1. Tundra Bunny:
The parade was just about to begin. My theory is that man just learned he’s diabetic.

    1. J Chabot:
Aw, thanks. Not as good as I’d like but at least you can see the crescent shape.
