Not Today, Tomorrow / No Hoy, Mañana

We’re taking Moose back to the vet shortly for another shot to stop the vomiting for 24 hours. We’ll probably have to go again before an ecograph can be scheduled early next week. The vet would like his vomiting to be under control for that. Dudo has won his battle and can do whatever he likes for the time being. He’s too obstinate for more treatments. I knew he was stubborn and bossy but I had no idea how nasty he could be. Thanks for the many recommendations. The cats drink water, they’re fed well, and they’re loved. San Geraldo keeps everything fresh and clean for them at all times. It’s to the point where if the litter box has been dirtied (even once), they come and tell us. But, although it’s stressful and not looking good, we’re in very good hands. I spent about a half hour on the phone with the vet this morning. We’re happy to have tried this new clinic.

I did my morning ear drops at 9 today. I set the timer on my phone so I wouldn’t fall asleep for 1-1/2 hours. The timer buzzed, I turned it off, and went back to sleep for 2 hours. That worked! My shin is still sore. It’s happier when I’m lying down. That’s annoying. The ear is doing incredibly well.

When I saw The Kid Brother Tuesday (he called me which still amazes) he sounded good. He’s a bit bored and would like the office to get him a new job, as they said they would. I told him he needs to talk to them about it. He then said, “My fridge is empty!” “Well, you need to go grocery shopping,” I replied. “Yeah, I could do that. You could…” He was leading up to the fact that I could send him another care package from Wegman’s but he didn’t want to come right out and say it. I told him those were special treats and I couldn’t afford to do that every month. Besides, he has a card (it’s in the office) that will pay for his groceries. “I know. I know,” he muttered. “But there’s no food in the house!” he complained. I replied, “And who’s supposed to take care of that, Chief? Go shopping tomorrow, with your card from the office.” “OK. OK.” He expected I would have something delivered immediately. He’s as demanding as the cats. “So you’ll go to the office and go grocery shopping tomorrow, correct?” “Tomorrow?” he asked. “Whatsamatter, you can’t tell me today?” And we did a minute of Abbott and Costello’s “Who’s on First” before we hung up with “And don’t call me Chief!”

• Dudo
• Moose
veterinarian, dudo, moose, fashion, vomit, chuck, kid brother, treatment, ecografia, abbott and costello,
• I wonder if her pony tails are real and pulled through holes in the cap or if they’re simply attached. I liked his shadow even more.

  1. I am so sorry to read about your cats. I read your last post too. I hope that they get better soon. I know it must be very very stressful. I have not been in the blogosphere for over a month, and I am trying to catch up.

  2. The cat health is a continual worry, so sorry. I hope the vet can get this resolved soon. And that you feel better, too. I think kb has developed high end tastes! Boud

  3. I had already zoomed in to try and figure out that ponytail/hat situation before I read your caption. I still don’t know.
Poor kitties. But they ARE loved and pampered!

    1. Kelly:
It seems to me it would be inconvenient to have to pull her hair through holes in the hat all the time. But convenience is not a word often heard in fashion.

  4. It is so stressful when our fur kids are sick…and so expensive to run the tests to figure out what’s going on, not to mention the meds. I’m sorry you’re all going through this. Fingers crossed things get better soon.

  5. Despite all, Moose is still a beautiful cat.
    Cold comfort though, I know.
Maybe your body needs the rest you keep inadvertently taking.
What would your brother do without you? Never get his shopping done, that’s for sure.

    1. Ms. Moon:
I try to wean my brother of his expectations from me since I may not always be around to fix things for him. It has gotten better over the years. But he’ll keep trying.

    1. Mistress Borghese:
I know! He sometimes takes a little while to recover, but he’s usually just like this. It makes it harder to accept.

  6. The cats are SO well taken care of…….
KB is lucky to have you for those ‘knudges’ you are so good at giving him.

  7. I’ve got Consuelo and Rosita sending good Cat Thoughts across the pond.
We’re all hoping it gets worked out for Moose and YOU!! With the shin and ear mess.

    1. Bob:
Ear really is so much better. Shin is a pain in the… shin. Cuddles to Consuelo and Rosita!

  8. I can sympathize with Moose as I’ve been sick as a dog (or a Moose?) with flu for the last week. No fever or headache, but I couldn’t even keep fluids down on Sunday. Hopefully, your Vet can prescribe an anti-emetic and figure out the cause of Moose’s problems.

Perhaps Dudo & Moose are like identical twins that feel each other’s pain?

    1. Tundra Bunny:
Oh you poor thing! I’m sorry we’re not nearby to give you some TLC. SG makes the best chicken soup. Neither Dudo nor Moose would do well solo. Anyway, I hope you’re feeling much better!

  9. Oh my — I’m behind on your posts so just now catching up with what’s going on. Off to read your earlier one.

Glad you insisted on Kid Brother getting his own groceries. It’s probably good to give him a nudge to handle these problems himself when he’s able.

    1. Steve:
I remind myself that I may not always be around for KB, so I need to let go and he needs to know where to always go for help (and lectures).

    1. Jon:
Nina Hagen! So cool. I didn’t see her from the front, so I missed the makeup.

  10. Looks like she might be wearing a combination visor/baseball cap, though I knew of no such thing until looking at that photo.

  11. I am so sorry to hear about your cats. It’s hard when something you loved and cared for has become a declining Senior Citizen, and at times, it feels like they have always been like that making even harder to recall a time when they were not so infirm. You are doing your best to keep them comfortable… and well loved.

    1. Rade:
Thanks. It’s tough to witness… and to clean up after. We really have to watch our step.

¡Saludos!

  13. We have had dogs for 40 years and I hate it when they get sick. Will worries and we are like two parents at the emergency. Our principal is they must not suffer. Teeter is pampered like there is no tomorrow. I wonder if he knows it?

    1. larrymuffin:
We’re the same as you. No suffering. Teeter simply knows that this is what he deserves.

  14. You are so patient with him. And I imagine her ponytails are real. I pull my single ponytail (about as thick and my thumb) through the hole in my cap.

    1. Ellen Abbott
They did look like real hair. Good to know. I try my best with Chuck. A lifetime of practice. There were times I didn’t make myself proud.
