HERE’S, IN A NUTSHELL, MY conversation with The Kid Brother this week. After his initial, indifferent-sounding, “Oh, good,” when I confirmed my summer visit, I simply filled the airwaves with my excitement. He owned his excitement within moments.

“I couldn’t wait to tell you,” I said, “so I went ahead and made my plane reservations. “That’s great!” he said as himself, and then the routines began.

“Did you say go ahead? Well, go ahead and back up!” [Abbott & Costello]. Once we finished that routine, I asked about the mail.

“One from you this week,” he said. “Oh, which one?” “What?”“Which picture is it?” “Who?” [Abbott & Costello again] “What?” “What’s on second!” I replied as Abbott. Once we finished that routine, he said, “So, that’s two.” “Two what?” I asked. [and off we went again].

Finally, “What kind of animal is in the picture on the postcard you got from me?” “Two postcards!” “You got TWO postcards from me?” “That’s right.” “Oh, what kinds of animals are in the pictures?” “I don’t know. You’ll have to see when you get here.”

“Did I tell you I’m changing planes in Dublin, Ireland this time?” “I told you not to tell me that!” [Get Smart] “Sorry about that, Chief,” I replied. [Get Smart] “And don’t call me Chief.” [Superman].

“And, you know what else, Chuck?” “What?” “I’ll have my Spanish license by the time I visit.” “Good! Lurch, bring the car around front!” [Addams Family] to which I responded with a groan, like Lurch, and said, “Yes, Mr. Addams.” [I seriously meant that Lurch-like groan.]

“No sé.

[Superman].

“Y, ¿sabes qué más, Chuck?” “¿Qué?” “Tendré mi carnet de españa cuando visito.” “¡Bien!

• Yesterday morning.
• Ayer por la mañanaa.
• This morning near sunrise.
• Esta mañana.

  1. Oh to be able to deliver lines like that, the Adams family was real entertainment.

    1. Mistress Borghese:
Glad I was able to catch that as the sun came up. I was too lazy to get my camera when i saw it from bed during the night.

  2. The Kid Brother killed me with this one:
“Good! Lurch, bring the car around front!”

    1. Bob:
One of our standards. When we’re together, he mimes pulling the cord so I’ll start with “You rang.”

    1. Wilma:
The skies were mystical. Glad I was able to capture the feeling.

  3. LOVE these photos! The first one through fog? Nice.
You two bros have the best sense of humour…..Addams Family one of my all-time favs.

    1. Jim:
We don’t get a lot of fog here. I also enjoyed the Addams Family, which is a good thing since we’ve been doing their rourtines for more than 50 years!

    1. Steve:
Oh yeah! And my childhood TV went on longer than money, since I continued to watch with The Kid Brother.

  4. I can’t even begin to tell you how much this post warmed my heart! 🙂 I just love the conversations between you and Chuck. I’m so very happy that you’ll get to see each other soon.

    1. Jennifer:
Maybe we should take it on the road. “Chuck & Schmuck”? “Schmuck & Chuck?”

    1. Walt the Fourth:
When we’re together, Chuck mimes pulling the cord so I can respond with “You rang” before he tells me to bring the car around front.

      1. Walt the Fourth:
        I want to respond as thing… but…

    1. Kirk:
Oh, I can’t hold a candle to Ted Cassidy. Besides, my voice can’t dip that low.

    1. Ron:
The typical conversation. He couldn’t do an entire routine in order. So he throws out a line and I throw one back.

  5. I mailed a card to Chuck on Wednesday. It’s a birthday card, but I didn’t think it mattered. It has a picture of a dog wearing a party hat. I hope he’d enjoy it. Besides, I doubt if he ever received the birthday card I sent long ago.

    Love,
    Janie

    1. Janie:
It doesn’t matter that it’s a birthday card. He’ll recognize those words and it will make him laugh. We’ll soon know if he’s received a lot more than he’s told me. It seems odd that so much would have gone astray.
