I didn’t think it was possible but San Geraldo’s Christmas dinner tasted even better the second day. We enjoyed it for both lunch and dinner Monday. With the exception of the infused vodkas, which will all be taken to Tynan and Elena’s house where they won’t go to waste. I had enough vodka to last me a long while (if not a lifetime).
I forgot to mention yesterday that San Geraldo perfectly prepared a pound of pickled peppers. I’ll share any recipes you’re interested in. Today’s recipe is for the Cranberry Infused Vodka. Tomorrow I’ll share the recipe for Poor Man’s Caviar.

Cranberry Spice Infused Vodka

- 1/4 cup sugar
- 3 star anise

- 750 ml vodka
Place cranberries and sugar in a small sauce pan over medium heat
Cook for 6 minutes. Let cool for 5 minutes.
Add all ingredients to a large jar.
Infuse from 4–7 days.
Once infused, strain and pour into large sealable bottle.
Oh yay, you read my mind! Thanks for the recipe! I am going to try that for next Christmas. Farewell, eggnog ‘n rum.
Debra,
I shared this first because you mentioned it. Hope you enjoy it.
We have a mound of leftovers from yesterday’s massive beef dinner that The Madam slaved over – talk about “feeding the five thousand”! All that, plus a smoked roast ham, a tub of various cheeses and biscuits, and jars of pickles; I am going to be waddling by the end of it… Jx
Jon,
It sounds like The Madam learned to cook the same way as SG. More is more.
It all looks so wonderful. And plenteous pounds of perfectly prepared pickled peppers.
David,
Aw, thanks for running with that. You can only imagine all the versions running around in my head.
I had no idea what a salad Olivier was and so I looked it up and am so pleased to see that it is a Russian potato salad! Lovely. And curious- potato salad is so identified over here with the south. Food is interesting, isn’t it? And generally always better the second day.
Anon,
Russian salad (ensaladilla rusa) is very popular down here. But it’s nothing like the real thing. And, yes, some foods are much better the second day. All of these were.
That’s such a welcoming house. And when you chose inside, oh, the food! Lovely.
I forgot to identify myself there — boud.
Boud,
So nice when it’s filled with friends and food.
Yesterday I drank some vodka-and-wine infused cranberry punch (or was it the other way around?) I should ask the person who made it to make it again AND make San Geraldo’s drink so I can do a taste comparison.
Kirk,
We’re going to Tynan and Elena’s for New Year’s Eve. We’re bringing the leftover vodka to them!
I’ll take nursery rhymes for 100. “Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers, A peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked; If Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers, Where’s the peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked?” The answer is: SG prepared them for Christmas Dinner.
Shirley,
It’s been rolling around in my head for days!
I like your Christmasy hallway view! It’s funny how food often tastes better on the second day. The flavors come together more, or something like that.
Steve,
Some foods always taste better on day 2. Some do not. These all did.
That Salmon Wellington/Kulebiak looks so tasty, I’d tuck into it on the second day too! Did Moose and Dudo get any special treats during your feast or were they banished to SG’s office for the duration?
Tundra Bunny,
Dudo and Moose have never been given people food and they’ve grown used to that. Moose did get special attention from Alexander and that made him very happy.
I had to Google kulebiak as I’d never heard of it and SG’s looks far more tasty than some of the photos I saw online.
And I will be making some cranberry vodka ….
Bob,
SG made the kulebiak differently this time and it was still beautiful. He usually does a smooth pastry and adorns it with pastry leaf and flower work. Also stunning.
Okay. Shirley said exactly what was going through my mind! Beautiful view in the last photo!
Kelly,
We have great views all around. The sea, the seaport, the Paseo, the beach. Very lucky.
I’m sure the food was nice but all I care about is the vodka. It was a long day at work.
Love,
Janie
Such a feast!
Judy C:
It was amazing. Typical of SG. Keep it simple!
Los sobrantes! What a great new Spanish word!
Your leftovers look better than my dinner.
tenemos los sobrantes también.
I happen to have a bag of cranberries not knowing what to do with them – until now.
Urspo:
The leftovers were incredible. And now it’s time to cut the carbs, fat, and desserts!
