Best foot forward / Mejor pie adelante

La versión en español está después de la versión en inglés.

There’s not much to report from here today. I’ve been obsessed with my stupid foot surgery and am happy to be leaving for the hospital in a half hour. My next report will be to tell you how well it all went and how well my recover is going.

My special shoe that I’ll wear for the next month, I’m told, should have been delivered to the surgeon earlier today. An exceptional service. I went around the corner and picked up my very chic crutches that, I’m told, I’ll only need tonight after the surgery. But it’s a one-week rental — at only €10 for the week, so I’m covered.

I have an extra comforter folded at the bottom of the bed to keep my foot elevated. I’ve pretty much gotten the house organized for Isabel’s arrival tomorrow morning so poor San Geraldo doesn’t have to do it all. I’m hoping I’ll be up for going out for coffee and second breakfast tomorrow.

I made the mistake of reading some things online this morning and I’ve been stressing about the recovery pain ever since. I know (seriously, I know) it will be better than I expect. I’ll leave you with red crutches, today’s orange sunrise, and yesterdays blue sea colors.

The hospital staff thought so, too. But they’re already history. So much easier without them.

  1. Good luck with your foot surgery. I have just been catching up on your blog. I always enjoy what you write. You sure do have a way with words. I loved that photo of you with your teddy bear. My mind drifted back to my own teddy bear that I named Manfred. Why the name? I have no idea.

I love seeing your comments. Interestingly, I had a few stuffed animals but never named any of them. Of course, by the time I was 5 or so, I was too much of a little man apparently to have stuffed animals anymore.

      1. For some odd reason, I love stuffed animals. My students gave me a little stuffed cat years ago, and we all named him “Robert”. Robert always sat on my desk, and when we went on field trips, he’d go with us. I am a little weird like that I guess.

I also love stuffed animals. Great name for a cat, by the way. We had a friend with a real dog named Douglas. Another had a German shepherd named Steve.

Doing great! Thanks. Even the orderly at the hospital thought my crutches were cool.

  2. Yeah, best not to go to the internet for medical advice. I’ve done it in the past for various aches and pains, become sure I’ve found the right malady, only to be told otherwise by the doctor.

    Good luck with your surgery.

I had gone to see video of the surgery, but there were so many different surgical options, I decided there was no reason to watch any. My biggest worry came from my own dream!

  3. You’re in my thoughts this morning, Mitchell, so best of luck with your surgery! It’s easy to build up expectations of some dreaded thing and then once it occurs, it’s not nearly as bad as expected. This is the point where I usually shake my head, LOL and wonder what the hell was I so worried about?!

    1. Tundra Bunny:
Thrilled that this wasn’t bad by any stretch of the imagination. I had my blood pressure soaring by the time I got to pre-op.

  4. Too many surgeries in your world these last few months. I am no good with “feel sorry for me, at all!

Before we moved to Fuengirola 11 years ago, I think my last surgery was a tonsillectomy when I was 11! This has been a very busy 11 years!

  5. Hopefully by now it’s a done deal and all went well! Have SG take a photo of you in action with those snazzy red crutches. They’re sure different from what I normally see!

  6. I think it is done by now, so I hope you’ll soon be getting away with those fancy crutches. They’ll see you coming! Hope all’s well for the next day or two. Boud.

  7. Ooh- sports model crutches!
I will be glad to hear that all is well. Take your pain meds if they are offered. Well, you don’t need my advice. It’s your foot, your pain, and hopefully, it won’t be so bad. And as I write this, I imagine you are watching that surgery out of the rear-view mirror.

The only pain meds have been Paracetamol (Tylenol) and I don’t even know if they’re necessary. But I’ll keep taking them because, lightweight that I am, they knock me out. All is well!

  8. I hope you’re done by now and everything went well. And if they offer you the good drugs….take ’em!!! LOL. No reason to put up with unnecessary pain. Hugs, my friend. xx

  9. It’s all looking good, break a leg! Ooops I suppose you do not say this in your case. Well good luck and get well soon.
