Bottle trees, Hawaiian shirts, and prêt-à-porter / Árboles de botellas, camisas hawaianas, y prêt-à-porter

The cats are both doing well. Moose has adjusted to Dudo’s alien look, although he steers clear of his plastic halo. Dudo is eating well and has been amazingly cooperative when it comes time to treat his wound. We had to remove the litter from the litter box and replace it with paper towels. San Geraldo picked up large industrial rolls. We place three layers in the litter box and, surprisingly, neither cat has had an issue with the change. When Moose poops, he very carefully folds the top layer of paper towels over his work. He then orders us to immediately clean the litter box and put down fresh paper (and he doesn’t stop meowing until we do). He’s the same after he pees. Dudo moves all layers of paper out of the way, poops directly on the plastic, and then covers it with the paper. Charming.

Yesterday I walked to the beach (I stayed on the small boardwalk) to get a closer look at the rough sea. I could see the waves crashing over the harbor wall in the distance. Then I took a short walk to the supermarket, just because I could. San Geraldo made a big grocery purchase and commented on the sorry state of the car after Thursday’s haze. It would have been much worse if it had rained.

There is a high possibility of rain starting tomorrow and throughout Holy Week. Still, there is also a high possibility that the rain will never materialize and the processions, 45 in the city of Malaga alone, will not be affected. Fuengirola has eight processions. Yesterday I was very excited to see some of our local fashion lovers.

• I think these are Australian bottle trees; they line one side of the train station, across the street from the supermarket.
• Thurday’s calima did a number on our clean car. I find it wonderful to imagine that red sand blowing across the sea from the Sahara Desert.
• I wanted to stop for a drink but the place had a very strict dress code.
• And we wonder why the tourists dress the way they do. “I just saw it in the window and I had to have it.” This is from a new beach bazaar just opened in the building next door.

  1. Wondering what ‘team’ those guys are on?
Hilarious that both Moose and Dudo know what they like re pooping in the box!! They didn’t like the kitty litter?
Good to see you out and about a bit.

    1. Jim:
Those guys could be here for a bachelor party or simply a guys weekend. It’s not a completely uncommon sight. The cats prefer the kitty litter to the paper towels — and so do we. But Dudo can’t use it right now while he heels, and they share a litter box. I’m hoping we’re done with it after tomorrow.

  2. I always enjoy your local photos with the vegetation, nuts, and fashion statements. I think that combo set has finally reached your world permanently. OH well, colourful to say the least. Those waves don’t look happy at all. As I sit here writing my thoughts, I look out the window to poker straight, tightly curled Siberian crocii looking at me. Winter has decided to stay around for awhile. I hear Toronto had 7 hours of snow yesterday. Not for us though, rain is approaching. Your kitties world is what I would want if I were a kitty!

  3. Either the shop caters to tourist taste or, heaven forbid!, that style is catching on. Glad to hear the kitties are doing well and are up to their usual peculiarity.

    1. wickedhamster:
These shops are all about the tourists. Isn’t it great how they put together the ensembles for you? No thinking required.

  4. It’s so interesting how things are evolving with Moose and Dudo, and the using-the-papertowel-box methods are a hoot. I just love those guys 🙂
Glad to hear that you’re getting walks in, outside 🙂

    1. Judy C:
I’m not getting out much, but I have walked an entire 10 minutes a couple of times! The cats are a constant source of entertainment.

  5. I always think about the people who get home from vacation with their purchases of beach clothing and realize that no, they cannot wear that shirt to a PTA meeting. I really do like that dress though. The guys with matching shirts are interesting- I’d love to know whose idea it was for them to all dress alike.
Your cars are looking a bit like ours except that ours are covered with yellow pollen while yours are (more exotically) covered with red Saharan dust.
Excellent healing news for both you and your super-model cats. Thank goodness SG is healthy enough to take care of all of you.

    1. MsMaryMoon:
The guys dressed alike is not a completely uncommon sight. Bachelor parties, team escapes, who knows… We get pollen days, too, but the Sahara sand is harder to clean off. Mud!

    1. mcpersonalspace54:
The matching shirt is not an uncommon sight in this holiday escape. Not something I’d do.

  6. Those guys must all work at the same place, and that’s the uniform. I’m guessing?

It’s funny how animals have their individual personalities and they come out in the strangest ways — like litter-box usage! If you’d asked me, I would have predicted that Moose was more fastidious than Dudo.

    1. Steve:
No, those guys are all tourists. Maybe a bachelor party. Maybe just an amateur football (soccer) team? Dudo thinks he’s being fastidious. So looking forward to the cone removal and the return of kitty litter.

  7. Funny about The Boys and the way they each use the litter boxes with the paper towels. I don’t know if ours would be so exacting in their, um,, methods.
The pollen in the air here hits the cars like your calima; luckily we have a garage so our car doesn’t get the yellow dust too badly.
I might have asked those guys for a shirt and the chance to join them in whatever is they’re teaming up to do?

    1. Bob:
For some odd reason, straight guys like to dress alike when they’re here. And they invariably choose cheap Hawaiian shirts.

  8. I LOVE the shirts, yes, I have several and yes I wear them. I never was a slave to fashion. I will add those to my shopping list for May. It is always fun to see photos and my brain connect with “you have been there.”

    1. David:
If you wear a Hawaiian shirt here, you will immediately stand out as NOT Spanish.

  9. The “strict dress code,” LOL! One thing that always amused me in Maui stores was seeing the coordinated “family fashion lines” of a man’s Hawaiian shirt, a woman’s Hawaiian sundress, and kid-sized Hawaiian shirts, all in the same fabric. Nothing like that “family clones” look!

  10. Boud here. I love Team Fancy Shirt. I wonder how you join.
I love the boys’ approaches to their upgraded bathroom. They may never go back to litter.

    1. Boud:
Join? I think all you have to do is show up. They boys clearly miss the litter… and so do we.

  11. Glad to see that Fuengirola’s reputation as a destination for “stag parties” is alike and kicking – they must have whooped for joy to find a shop in Germany or Scandinavia (or wherever those boys hail from) that sold lime-green Hawaiian shirts (in all sizes) in March… Of course, they could have waited till they got there, of course, judging by that window display! Jx

    PS Love those bottle trees.

  12. Love the blooms on the Australian bottle trees!!! Any scent? the pods on there are cool also

Moose’s “necessary room” technique cracks me up and then demands clean out. Now THAT is a diva.

    1. Mistress Borghese:
I have never noticed any fragrance from the flowers. Yes, Moose IS a diva.

  13. Even the manikin has one leg hiked up on his shorts!

It must have felt great to get out and walk again. We have thick smoke in the air today. I hope the slight chance for rain materializes for both of us – it is very dry here and the rainy season seems a long time off (even though it is not).

Does Moose also demand that you clean up immediately after Dudo as well?

    1. WILMA!!!
So good to see you here and blogging again! Can’t get very excited about my walks. 5 minutes here and there. But I’ll be back soon. And, yes, Moose demands the litter box be cleaned immediately no matter who uses is. I think it was cleaned 10 times yesterday. Already twice today.

  14. Do you just have one litterbox? I’m thinking it was only Dudo who needed the special accommodations. But then I don’t guess you could dictate which box which cat could use if one had litter and the other had paper towels. I assume cats are going to do whatever strikes their fancy.

You have red sand, we have yellow pollen. 🤧

    1. Kelly:
Yes, they share a litter box and were we to put in a second one for Dudo during this time, Moose would use it, too, because that’s what they do. And if Moose still had a litter box with real litter, Dudo would choose that. We get yellow pollen, too. What a mess. But the Sahara sand turns to mud when it gets wet. We still have traces of the red mud stains from two years ago.

  15. I can’t imagine why six young men would wear the same ugly clothing unless it was for a sports team of some kind. It kinda makes sense for a family on vacation — it would be easier to keep track of the kids or for meeting up somewhere.

Do Moose and Dudo display the same respective behaviours when there’s kitty litter instead of paper towels? Rest assured, I’m not usually interested in scat or bathroom behaviour of animals, but my curiosity is overwhelming me, LOL! The boys might not want to go back to kitty litter after this week…

    1. Tundra Bunny:
Holiday makers think the matching or coordinating Hawaiian shirts is a brilliant idea. Bachelor party weekend, amateur footballers or ruggers. Just a group of friends. Not something I would do.

Dudo and Moose are both fairly fastidious with the kitty litter. I don’t think either of them are thrilled with the paper towels. Moose does sometimes tell us to scoop out the regular litter box but he won’t go in now even if he or Dudo has only peed (although I can understand why).

  16. Just want to let you know this old guy is getting tired. Leon and I have been dealing with health issues – his heart procedure and the after care (which was not supposed to involve hours and hours in the emergency room or be difficult at all) and my endless aches and pains and trying to keep up with the activities of daily life…so I’ve not been following blogs – or writing in my own blog – of late (the older I get, the less I have to say about anything). As a matter of fact, I believe that will continue for the foreseeable future and beyond. I just want you to know I may check in now and then without leaving a comment. Keep up the good work.

    1. Frank:
I am so sorry to know what you’ve both been going through. I hope it gets better steadily. Give my best regards to Leon. You both deserve huge hugs.

    1. Urspo:
Bachelor party, stag holiday, birthday escape, guys who just think it’s clever.
