Fiery sunset fireworks / Atardecer ardiente, fuegos artificiales

La versión en español está después de la versión en inglés.

We had burgers at Goiko Grill last night because the apartment was clean and we didn’t feel like messing it up. Besides, the staff at Goiko now all know us and treat us like family. We always have a great time there and feel like we’re home. Their latest napkins gave me a chuckle. Even San Geraldo got the joke. After a beat.

We put up one of our antique mirrors on the terrace and love the look. The cats have hung out there, but neither has yet to jump on a chair. I even put a towel on one to see if that would help.

Jacarandas are in bloom all over town. I took a picture of one in lamplight last night, but will get shots during the day of the rows of them.

Last night’s fireworks started right on time at midnight. A number of neighbors were on the roof to watch. Our closest neighbor is a charming woman named Lucia. She’s lived here since the building was new (1982) and raised three children, all of whom visit regularly and are also charming. They’re here often enough that we’re getting to know each other. Two live in Málaga and one lives in Córdoba. They have grown children who are also warm and friendly. A rare family. So we visited last night while watching the fireworks from our distance of 3km/2 miles.

Now it’s time for me to buzz-cut my hair, trim my beard, and shave. I’ve got to at least try to look presentable for Evan and Sarah who arrive in 2-1/2 hours. Don’t miss Thursday’s sunset below.

  1. For some reason I want to make bacon cheeseburgers, potato salad, and baked beans. Summer festival foods. Great views, and great neighbors.

  2. My husband and I lived in orgiva for 20 years and visited the Feria de patios several times .We loved Cordoba and often thought it would be a lovely place to retire to.Sadly r died and I am now in uk again .The views of The patios you’ve thoughts on Cordoba and especially that sunset are very pleasant remembered times for me thankyou Frederica

    1. Frederica:
So sorry about your husband’s death. It sounds like you led an interesting life together. I hope your new life in the UK brings you other kinds of happiness. I’ve never been to Órgiva, so I looked it up. It looks and sounds charming. What a life that must have been.

    1. Debra:
One of these days I’ll capture a sunrise or sunset from the roof.

    1. Bob:
We’re a bit far from the fireworks to truly appreciate them. We’re much closer to the sunset.

  3. Sunsets are just about my favorite thing. I mean, I truly practically worship them. Especially over water.
The mirror looks as if had grown there. Perfect.

    1. Ms. Moon:
I’m with you about sunsets, and sunrises. We had the sunrises over the Mediterranean Sea for all those years. Sunsets were reflected in the clouds and sea, which was also amazing. We love the mirror there!

  4. Oh, my heart…what a beautiful terrace for watching sunsets and fireworks! Friends to share it with is the cherry on top. 🙂

  5. That sunset rivals any you had on the beach. Beautiful!

I love the napkin. I use to order from a place called “wearable vegetables” that had all sorts of items featuring movie, book, and music puns with food. I still have several of their aprons and a shirt that appropriately says “There’s no place like hummus.”

    1. Mistress Borghese:
We’ve got a stocked liquor cabinet and no one to enjoy it!

  6. LOVE the terrace!….and the mirror looks great!
Guess the cats are waiting for that perfect moment to sllep on the chairs.

    1. Jim:
They’d be on the chairs in a heartbeat if we didn’t want them to. Argh!

    1. Jon:
Of course, I wish the terrace were bigger, but we hardly used all the space we had before. I do like the look though.

  7. Now THAT’S a cheeky napkin, LOL! Beautiful sunset too… red sky at night, sailors’ delight!

    1. Tundra Bunny:
There must have been a bunch of delighted sailors the other day.

  8. Don’t go bacon my heart. I couldn’t if I fried. Honey, if I get lettuce… Baby, you don’t like tripe.

The firework photo is sensational! And the mirror adds more depth to the small space. Wonderful!

    1. Walt the Fourth:
I knew you’d have a good time with the napkin. That’s where my brain went, too. Mine, in my head, ended with “Oh, baby I have to pee.”

    1. Frances:
I was grateful to have caught the sunset. That mirror came with us from California. I think we bought it in San Francisco around 1999. Or maybe even Washington D.C. in the early ’80s.

  9. Bizarrely, I first read that as “baking” my heart, rather than “breaking.” Not sure what that says about me. LOL!

Your terrace looks very inviting! I’m surprised the cats aren’t out there all the time.

    1. Steve:
The cats do this to make me crazy. The have been going out a bit but haven’t gotten on a chair.
