My cousin Evan and his wife, Sarah, have been traveling around Spain and spent the weekend here in Córdoba. They married after we left the United States and I only knew Sarah from online exchanges (which means I already knew I loved her). Evan is my cousin Evie’s youngest, brother to Ellen, whom I see every year with her family when I’m in New York. We hadn’t seen Evan since leaving California, so it was a great reunion. They seemed to love Córdoba despite the fact that they arrived for the first weekend of Feria when the city is packed. Right now, they’re on their way to Seville for their last couple of days. So that was our wonderful weekend. They have two cats and they’re missing them and thought they’d get a fix with Dudo and Moose. Of course, the little shits were a bit standoffish. They tolerated a couple of pets but nothing else.
This morning at 11:30 I began dialing the city office about our registration. For about 20 attempts I got a busy signal and was then quickly disconnected. To my shock, at 12:45, someone answered. She looked us up, and found us, phew! She said they are very far behind. No duh. I will receive something via email within the next week and then should come into the office and take a number to see someone. Here’s hoping.
I haven’t yet decided what I’ll do today and it’s already nearly 1:30. Maybe a walk in sunshine and heat. It’s supposed to be in the high 30sC, around 100F. Sarah and Evan went to the fair Sunday and had a great time although they said it was extremely hot. I’ll give it a try midweek, I think. It’s more than a 40-minute walk, so I (we) may take advantage of a free bus nearby rather than walk there in the heat. Beautifully dressed women (and men) can be seen all over town.
I placed a towel on one of the terrace chairs in the hopes it would entice Dudo or Moose to settle in. No luck. But Dudo has been sleeping regularly on his rug on the terrace. Progress.
Tynan and Elena will be here from Fuengirola Thursday through Saturday. More great days to look forward to. I’m feeling very fortunate.
No, claro.

I love the dressing-up for the feria – fab outfits, even the one on that bloke! We’ve only been in Spain once when a feria was going on (and, funnily enough, it was Fuengirola’s), and were amazed how utterly “normalised” all those frilly frocks were. I cannot imagine a similar thing happening in the UK… Jx
PS Always good to meet up with friends and family for a fun evening out!
Jon:
It’s especially fun to walk around these older cities and see the traditional clothes. Lines of flamenco dresses at the bus stops. And, you’re right, completely normal.
The guy in the red polka dots looks like he may have had more than one glass of sangria. So for men what is the dress? Bullfighter pants?
David:
He tripped as I snapped and I didn’t even realize until I looked at the picture. I don’t THINK he was drunk yet. There are traditional suits for men with short jackets, more commonly worn by men on horseback or from the countryside. Lots of preppy looking men with the women dressed traditionally.
Oh my goodness Michi! You and Evan have exactly the same smile. 😋
Jssw:
I never saw that!
Wonderful family photos — and yes! You and your cousin DO have exactly the same smile!
Debra:
As I told judyshannon, I never noticed that. But I suppose it is similar. His is bigger than mine.
Can you imagine having to wear one of those long dresses in that heat?!
I love that Dudo is happily out on the terrace, even if it’s just on his rug 🙂 Too bad the boys missed out on enjoying Evan and Sarah… silly cats. My sister Betsy has a cat named Oatmeal that our two little grand nieces were sooooo excited to meet, and she just flew out of the room any time any of us walked in, of course.
Happy happy happy for you to have time with family and friends!

Judy C:
The cats did at least allow a little cuddle. At least they no longer run away when anyone approaches. Those poor women in the dresses. It’s getting hotter as the week progresses. Close to 100 today. 104 is predicted for Saturday.
How does it feel to be/One of the beautiful people?
Dang, y’all are good-looking. I’m not kidding. And you are rocking the linen shirt.
Love the fancy dresses photos. I would love to know the story of the guy in the dress with the rose. Had he been imbibing? Was he about to fall over? Or was he just doing a little dance, merely high with the festive spirit?
Be well, Mitchell.

P.S. You guys may be the only cat-owners I’ve ever known who have encouraged their little loves to get ON the furniture.
Ms. Moon:
Our first cats were not allowed on “hard furniture.” So they only went on the tables when we weren’t looking and then as they got older wouldn’t even consider it. We gave up on these two early on. My mother was always appalled that our other two cats went on the beds, chairs, and sofas.
Ms. Moon:
One of the beautiful people. I like how your vision works! I’m happy with the linen shirt. I don’t the dress-wearing tripping guy was drunk yet. I think he simply tripped. As a matter of fact, when I snapped he hadn’t yet tripped. I didn’t know he had until I saw the photo. There was a group of 5 guys, a bit nerdy looking to me. Two were dressed like that. There’s always someone doing it. Check this one out from our first year in Spain. https://movingwithmitchell.com/2012/04/21/dude-looks-like-lady/
We don’t even pretend to have rules about where our cat can perch. She never gets on certain surfaces in the kitchen though, and that’s nice. Otherwise- free range of everything.
Why should women get all the joy of wearing beautiful dresses? I remember when August and Maggie were little and I made dresses for Maggie and shorts for August and he was so upset. He wanted a dress like Maggie had! And so I began to make him dresses and he loved them. He has given them up though.
Sigh.
Those women in the top photo are dressed very nicely for what looks like, well not a ‘walk,’ but a processional of shame.
I kid.
Looks like a lovely family reunion y’all had.
Sounds wonderful.
Bob:
We were still flying high yesterday from our time with Sarah and Evan.
This is great — everyone dressed up all over town, the frill of it all!
You’re getting plenty of social life fitted in between bureaucracy. Far behind, who could have guessed? Boud
Boud:
Yes, we’ve been grateful for the number of friends that have visited. Far behind. The understatement of the year.
Nothing better than visits with family and friends. Looks like you all enjoyed the company.
100F….phew! I would melt!! lol
Nice shirt!
Jim:
This is a trial run for July and August. And we don’t need the practice. Currently 29 and climbing to 36 today (probably higher).
I love that you get so many wonderful visits from friends and family. You are loved!
That last photo made me smile. My younger daughter’s kitty celebrated his 15th birthday yesterday and she sent me a cute photo of him with his “cake”. I wish I’d been there to scoop him up for a hug. I’ve always forced myself on him, but never for long so he tolerates it.
Kelly:
We are very lucky and so grateful for these friends and family. I had a few family members I was always close with. Evan is one of them, so this was very special. What was the birthday cat? Maybe we can do something for Dudo and Moose’s 14th in July.
He normally eats dry kibble so he got a can of pâté with a candle in it. 🎂
Kelly:
I love it! I’ll give it a try. They’ll probably run and hide!
Sorry, but sneakers and a mustache simply does not well with a flamenco dress, but I don’t blame him for trying.
Kirk:
I don’t know. I think the mustache worked well, but he should have at least been wearing espadrilles.
Happy. Facesxx
finlaygray:
Yes. Very happy.
I see the girls of DragRace made an appearance?!?! And there is ALWAYS one who can’t even walk in sneakers or flats let alone cha-cha heels.
AHAHAHAHA!
Mistress Borghese:
I would like to see the drag racers walking these cobbles.
I bet Dudo & Moose sneak in to use your new room when you and SG are sound asleep! Too bad you don’t have a trail cam, LOL!
Tundra Bunny:
Dudo is now spending a lot of time out there. Just not on the chairs where he’d have a better view. Maybe I’ll put his rug on the chair!
