My cousin Evan and his wife, Sarah, have been traveling around Spain and spent the weekend here in Córdoba. They married after we left the United States and I only knew Sarah from online exchanges (which means I already knew I loved her). Evan is my cousin Evie’s youngest, brother to Ellen, whom I see every year with her family when I’m in New York. We hadn’t seen Evan since leaving California, so it was a great reunion. They seemed to love Córdoba despite the fact that they arrived for the first weekend of Feria when the city is packed. Right now, they’re on their way to Seville for their last couple of days. So that was our wonderful weekend. They have two cats and they’re missing them and thought they’d get a fix with Dudo and Moose. Of course, the little shits were a bit standoffish. They tolerated a couple of pets but nothing else.
This morning at 11:30 I began dialing the city office about our registration. For about 20 attempts I got a busy signal and was then quickly disconnected. To my shock, at 12:45, someone answered. She looked us up, and found us, phew! She said they are very far behind. No duh. I will receive something via email within the next week and then should come into the office and take a number to see someone. Here’s hoping.
I haven’t yet decided what I’ll do today and it’s already nearly 1:30. Maybe a walk in sunshine and heat. It’s supposed to be in the high 30sC, around 100F. Sarah and Evan went to the fair Sunday and had a great time although they said it was extremely hot. I’ll give it a try midweek, I think. It’s more than a 40-minute walk, so I (we) may take advantage of a free bus nearby rather than walk there in the heat. Beautifully dressed women (and men) can be seen all over town.
I placed a towel on one of the terrace chairs in the hopes it would entice Dudo or Moose to settle in. No luck. But Dudo has been sleeping regularly on his rug on the terrace. Progress.
Tynan and Elena will be here from Fuengirola Thursday through Saturday. More great days to look forward to. I’m feeling very fortunate.
Mi primo Evan y su esposa, Sarah, están de viaje por España este mes y pasaron el fin de semana aquí en Córdoba. Se casaron después de que saliéramos de Estados Unidos y solo conocía a Sarah por intercambios en línea (lo que significa que ya sabía que la quería). Evan es el menor de mi prima Evie, hermano de Ellen y tío de las excepcionales Carly y Brooke, a quienes veo cada año cuando estoy en Nueva York. No habíamos visto a Evan desde que salimos de California, así que fue un reencuentro genial. Parecían estar encantados con Córdoba a pesar de que llegaron el primer fin de semana de Feria, cuando la ciudad está abarrotada. Ahora mismo, están de camino a Sevilla para pasar sus últimos días. Así que ese fue nuestro maravilloso fin de semana. Tienen dos gatos y los extrañan, así que pensaron en tener una experiencia con Dudo y Moose. Pero los pequeños eran un poco distantes. Toleraron un par de caricias, pero nada más.
Esta mañana a las 11:30 empecé a llamar a la oficina del ayuntamiento para hablar de nuestro registro. Durante unos 20 intentos, me salió señal de ocupado y me cortaron la llamada rápidamente. Para mi sorpresa, a las 12:45, alguien contestó. Nos buscó y nos encontró, ¡uf! Dijo que estaban muy lejos. No, claro. Recibiré algo por correo electrónico la semana que viene y luego debería pasar por la oficina y apuntar un número para ver a alguien. Ojalá.
Todavía no he decidido qué haré hoy y ya es la 1:00. Quizás un paseo bajo el sol y el calor. Se supone que hará unos 30 °C, unos 100 °F. Sarah y Evan fueron a la feria el domingo y lo pasaron genial, aunque dijeron que hacía muchísimo calor. Creo que lo intentaré a mitad de semana. Son más de 40 minutos a pie, así que quizá aprovechemos un autobús gratuito cercano en lugar de ir caminando con el calor. Se ven mujeres (y hombres) elegantemente vestidos por toda la ciudad.
Puse una toalla en una de las sillas de la terraza con la esperanza de que Dudo o Moose se acomodaran. Sin suerte. Pero Dudo ha estado durmiendo a menudo en su alfombra de la terraza. ¡Vaya!
Tynan y Elena vendrán desde Fuengirola de jueves a sábado. Nos esperan más días estupendos. Me siento muy afortunado.
• Salimos a tomar el postre después de cenar el sábado por la noche.
• Me detuve bajo la luz de una parada de autobús para una última foto después de cenar el domingo. (Llevo una de mis nuevas camisas de lino).
