Cooler in the shadows / Más fresco en las sombras

La versión en español está después de la versión en inglés.

It’s so much cooler today (everything’s relative). A high of 41˚C/105.8˚F as opposed to yesterday’s 44˚C/113˚F. It looks like it will continue to drop through the week. Not enough to send us hiking the mountains, but enough to be less oppressive. It’s overcast, breathing is poor, and allergies are high. Great day. I’ve been staying in the shadows.

  1. I love your shadow photos – although I guess since your new apartment is so much higher, you don’t have the opportunity to take as many of “passers-by” as you did in Fuengirola. Jx

    1. Jon:
I have figured out that I can get some great shadow shots of people from the terrace and bedroom. I just never remember to be there with my camera at the right time. Not like Fuengirola.

    1. Steve:
Once (if) your body adjusts to the climate, there’s a huge difference between 106 and 113. I can tolerate 106 but won’t do much of anything at 113.

    1. Boud:
It’s only 82F right now! Climbing to high 90s, but a huge improvement. I’m cool. I’m cool.

    1. Mistress Borghese:
It was only 72 when I woke up this morning. I didn’t get out in time to enjoy that. I DO love shadows.

  2. Our cool spell ended–and I was glorious while it lasted–and we are back to hot days and high humidity.
I stay indoors, under a ceiling fan, with the AC on …..

    1. Bob:
It does reach a point where it’s crazy to go outside. Today won’t reach 100. Wow!

    1. Kelly:
Oh, humidity would be a nightmare. 113 feels like 113 in our 20 to 40% humidity.

    1. Kirk:
I know! We used to do the same. Thankfully, our bodies have adjusted. 90s are now pleasant (like today).

  3. Scoot, sweetie, are you sure you haven’t moved to a desert by mistake? I’d be nekkid wrapped in a damp towel spread out under a fan on its highest setting! Air conditioning is good too.

    1. Deedles:
Oh, yeah, it’s a lot like the desert, except for all the greenery, fountains, and no shortage of water. The image of you wrapped in a damp towel under a fan (somehow I imagine you wearing sunglasses) is wonderful. With BH waiting on you. In this climate, as you well know, only air conditioning will really do, although there are people here who still survive without it. I don’t know how.

    1. Rade:
We passed 70 at 7:00 this morning. I’m sorry I missed it! It’s still only 86 right now.

  4. I was reading the NYTimes the other day and there was an article about the heat in Europe this summer. Where you live in Spain was the hottest color on the map!

    1. Michael:
Córdoba is known at times as either the hottest city in Europe or the second hottest city in Europe.

  5. Those high temperatures really surprise me living as I do on the Texas coastal plains. I don’t think we’ve hit triple digits yet, except for the feels like, which we usually get in August. Still it’s been hot enough here that I’ve been staying pretty much indoors from about noon on. Ellen in Texas

    1. Ellen (in Texas):
Córdoba is said to be the hottest or second hottest (depending on what you read) city in Europe. Our feels-like are usually the same as our real with our low humidity.
