My head is schpinning / Mi cabeza está dando vueltas

La versión en español está después de la versión en inglés.

I’ve almost finished packing up the Christmas decorations. The larger of the two Rubbermaid tubs is back in the closet since yesterday. The other, still large, is nearly packed. The weather has been weird and foggy and so have I, so I’ve been taking it slow.

Besides, Dudo has been in need of attention and he comes first. Yesterday while I packed, he wanted to play. It doesn’t happen very often anymore, so I drop everything when it does. He has the attention span of a playful 14-year-old cat, so I’m not required for very long. The 1-minute 24-second video is how it went. Tissue paper is the best.

Today, he wanted to sit on the sofa and cuddle with me. So the packing stopped for 10 minutes, and now I’m just too dizzy to get back to it. You can see by the rest of today’s photos of the view from the bedroom window what the air has been like and why I haven’t been at my best. I think it’s time to join SG for a siesta.

In the title, I’m quoting Fraulein Schneider from Cabaret when she reacts to the pineapple given to her by Herr Schultz. The video I found isn’t quite the same, but perhaps it’s even better.

  1. LOVE those spurts of ‘cat energy’ going wild!
Sounds to me you had ‘pre-migraine’ symtoms. When we have low pressure systems hanging around for a couple of days, this can bring them on. It’s been that way here most of the week (except for the glorious spring day today!)
As a result I have had two auricular migraines this week. Ever have any yourself?

    1. Jim:
I had migraines as a kid, although never diagnosed and always ignored. I would just take to my bed with the curtains drawn. Haven’t had one since I was in my 30s. Interesting about the pre-migraine symptoms. It WAS an odd day. Today, I’m fine.

  2. Dudo sure taught THAT tissue paper who’s boss.
    Sweet song.
I don’t feel well myself today. I have no idea why.

    1. Ms. Moon:
Sometimes I wonder if I don’t feel like myself more often than I do feel like myself.

  3. It’s nice to see Dudo still has his “kitten” moments! I’m a little surprised that Moose wasn’t in on the action, but maybe he was napping.

In Georgian England, pineapples were a universal symbol of welcome. I watched an episode of UK Antiques Roadshow recently that was held on the estate of some wealthy Georgian who LOVED pineapples so much that he even had stone pineapple statues on his grounds and along the rooftop of his mansion!

    1. Tundra Bunny:
Moose does usually show up when he hears Dudo playing. He was enjoying a siesta in another room. I remember the pineapple ornamentation from Boston and Washington D.C. Stone pineapples at entrances to homes were very popular.

  4. Foggy here in Old London Town tonight, too!

Dudo certainly is a fearsome hunter of tissue paper…

That version of that song, with two older gay characters, was just so touching! I adored it. Jx

    1. Jon:
I was looking for Lotte Lenya, but when I came upon Len Cariou and Chip Zien, I couldn’t think of anything better.

  5. Interesting, and a bit ironic, that song’s gay makeover. Cabaret was based on two novels by Christopher Isherwood, who was gay. Before Cabaret there was the nonmusical version titled, I Am a Camera by John Van Druten, and John Kander and Fred Ebb, who wrote the songs for Cabaret, were both gay. But of course none of these people would have been allowed to do an actual gay story back in the day.

    1. Kirk:
Yes, I’m glad times have changed although some are trying to turn back the clock. Have you read the stories by Christopher Isherwood? I finally read them a few years ago.

  6. Just wait a minute and the view will change, eh??

Thanks for the Dudo. I adore that boy and his punim, and his bouts of playfulness!

    1. Bob Slatten:
So difficult to not get a bit melancholy with Dudo now. But he’s still a sweetheart and so entertaining. And so fricking bossy. The views made me think of the Rouen Cathedral (well, a little).

  7. We’re at an age when the cats take precedence over all else. Bladder was screaming at me at 5AM this morning. >THOUGHT< I could just slip downstairs (1st floor bathroom) and then go back to bed. Nope. 12 of 16 paws waiting in the kitchen for breakfast, and four more paws out the side door looking in. Got everyone fed and cookied, but by then, I was too awake to go back up to bed.

  8. That fog is quite dramatic! It’s good to see that Dudo still has a playful spark, at least some of the time. That’s a great song. I’ve seen “Cabaret” but it’s been years and I’d forgotten that song completely.

    1. Steve:
Those two characters’ musical exhanges might be my favorites from the show. I was disappointed when the songs weren’t included in the movie. From this one to “Married” to “What Would You Do?”

Dudo’s playfulness is always a surprise. It comes from out of nowhere and he’s momentarily his old kitten self.

  9. I packed up Christmas on Jan 1 🤫

Luckily mine doesn’t take long. I just pick up the tree and move it to the garage 😂

That’s the way to do it. I wait until after January 6 here because that’s Three Kings Day which is big. Traditionally Spaniards exhange gifts the eve of that holiday. It’s much easier than it used to be. No tree, no lights anywhere, and only 2 boxes of ornaments instead of 10.
