I’m [cold]-symptom free. I have energy. The best I’ve felt in two weeks. San Geraldo went back to the dentist this morning and had his teeth cleaned. All of them. He has never done it in one fell swoop before.
Aside: I just thought, what the hell is a fell swoop? So, I looked it up. Of course, it’s Shakespeare. Macduff compares the murder of his wife and children to a hawk swooping down on its prey. “Fell” meant “cruel” or “ruthless.” The meaning has changed over the years to signify “sudden.” Anyway, San Geraldo loves the dentist, loves the hygienist, and I need to make an appointment.
I spoke with my nephrologist yesterday evening and twice this morning. My most recent lab work was very good. Kidneys are doing much better. No build-up of the medication in my system either. Now we just need to get my diabetes back under control. All was perfect until the kidney problems. So, I started an additional medication this morning. Here’s hoping. My next appointment will be in three months. No need for once a month anymore.
I’m afraid to say this out loud, but it’s a good day. I’ve been enjoying and taking pictures of the apartment again. Astoundingly for us, we still haven’t finished hanging pictures. The bedroom is forgotten. We need new bed linens. We need art on the walls. Maybe even a rug. San Geraldo’s office suits him. It wouldn’t suit me. It’s quite a hodgepodge. He has pairs of shoes atop a high bookcase, along with cardboard boxes, some full, some empty, and knick knacks. The rest of his shoes, and some clothes, are on tall racks in a corner. Nothing on the walls. And he still hasn’t painted the closet doors. It all makes Merchi a little crazy. “His clothes and shoes get dusty! Don’t those doors bother him?” I’ve explained that, for San Geraldo, this office is in pretty good condition.
As for the main living area of the apartment, I’m OK with it. I would love some new throw pillows for the sofas. We have two great pillows, embroidered by SG. The others don’t suit the room. I priced the pillow I had been admiring for a while. I decided I didn’t want to spend that much on one pillow, even though the salesperson justified the price by telling me it was made of pure wool. Well, pardon me. You can see it above.
I’m heading out the door in a moment to shop, to wander, and to take in my city.
Ahora solo necesitamos volver a controlar mi diabetes.
A mí no me sentaría bien.

‘Now go live your life’….(so said our internal medicine specialist) a few years ago. And we are. And so are you. So good to hear things are clearing up.
Jim:
Yes, grateful to be able to live my life.
Ahhh! All such great news! And, thanks for the info on “one fell swoop”.
Is that a Klimt-inspired throw pillow?
Judy C:
SG bought 3 Klimt-based pillow kits and has completed two of them.
Did you ask if they had any pillows made from slightly impure wool that might be a little more reasonable?
That new dentist must have some magic. Also, the hygienist. Good for SG!
And good for you for the excellent nephrology report. I know the diabetes thing is worrying but I’m betting you can figure that out.
Your home is absolutely beautiful and I can understand why Merchi is a little baffled at why Jerry’s office has a different sort of vibe going on.
Ms. Moon
Ms. Moon:
I’ll go back today and ask about impure wool. Merchi laughs about SG. We laugh about her. She likes to move things into their “correct” position every week. We move things back and hope she gets the point, but then she repositions them the following week hoping WE get the point.
SG doesn’t get his teeth cleaned all in one go? I have never heard of this. Everyone gets their teeth cleaned all at once, don’t they?!
I like your current throw pillows, for what it’s worth, though I certainly don’t mean to talk you out of buying new ones! Your apartment looks very cozy and stylish. I like the candle/match holders too!
Steve:
SG is the only person I know who had his teeth cleaned in quadrants. Four visits when he could have done one. This is a major breakthrough.
THANK YOU!!! I had a doctors appointment yesterday morning and completely forgot that he wanted me to have lab work done! Read you posting and was like “CRAP!!!” Just hit the local town lab and got it done.
Rade:
Oh, you’re welcome!
I’m glad to hear you are finally getting back to normal! (Were you “normal” to start with?? 😉 My family would say I never was.) I hope you enjoyed your walkabout.
Kelly:
I have never been normal in my life and I am not now. Just cold-free!
The very last picture of the living room looks stunning. The place looks so much more chic than when the previous owner lived there. And how does San Gerardo stand those closet doors they would drive me nuts!!! Seems weird not to see the kitties or the cat trees.
Mistress Borghese:
The closet doors would drive me nuts. SG can often ignore things. Besides, he sits with his back to those doors most of the time. It’s still weird for us to not see and talk to the kitties. I love all the extra space, but I miss them.
It is good to read that you are feeling better! I have been absent from blogging for a couple of weeks so I am catching up. I love the photos of your apartment. SG’s office wouldn’t suit me either!
Michael:
SG at some point feels the need to improve his office space, but he’s a lot looser than I am about it.
I do love having a nose around other people’s homes! Very tasteful. What on earth is that enormous tree in the middle of it all? I’m intrigued. Please tell me it’s a real one… I’d hate to have my illusions shattered. Jx
Jon:
I’m here to shatter your illusions. The tree is fake. We wanted something to visually separate the space. I wanted real. The real ones that would do well in that light were toxic to cats. I’m not a fan of the fake olive tree, but it at least did the trick. Sigh.
Aaaaaargh! I cannot abide plastic plants. Even in a hotel, if there’s one in the room, I throw it in the bin. If I’d have known, you could have had one of our weeping fig plants – they are (or possibly were – we left them outside all winter, and are still waiting for any sign of regrowth) getting too big for our place, and with such a lot of light from both ends of your flat, would have fitted the bill perfectly. Jx
Jon:
At least the plant is silk and not plastic. But, yeah. Weeping fig wouldn’t do well. We have natural light but never bright sunlight. Not enough for figs (I checked).
OK, then – Aspidistra. That definitely thrives in low light. Jx
Jon:
Yes, one of the possibilities!
I solve throw pillow issues by not having any.
Debra:
I don’t know why they matter to me.
Thank you for the five dollar tour. Your place looks so grown up! Just as well SGs idea of decor stays in his office. Boud
Boud:
Interestingly, SG has a fine aesthetic and great design sense. And he cares about how things look… just not in his office. He would, however, spread his mess into the rest of the house if I let him. There are rules.
Good news on all the health fronts; it must feel great to getup and out again.
I’d simply keep SG’s office door closed.
I like the pillow but it would have to be priced right … by that I mean cheap?
Bob:
SG’s office is conveniently located so that you have to turn a corner to see inside. I assigned offices based on visibility.
So happy you feel good and I’m shocked by SG getting his teeth cleaned in one swell foop. I don’t like that pillow whether it’s made out of wool or something else. The apartment looks good. Things will get done when they get done. You’ve needed to have some repairs made and those took precedence over pillows and painting.
Love,
Janie
janiejunebug:
I’m so proud of SG and swell foop! We didn’t finish the upstairs of our house in Connecticut until it was time to sell!
I’m curious as to what your bedroom does look like at the moment.
Kirk:
I’ll take some pictures.
I just had a pang looking at your photos – there are no kitties in them – sob.
sillygirl:
I know. It pains me, and I’m not ready to start sharing in memoriam photos.
Your apartment looks long and narrow. I’d have painted those closet doors first thing. Glad you are finally free of the cold.
A good report on a good day: Good for you I say ! I get my teeth done in one swell swoop this Wednesday
Urspo:
I still haven’t made my appointment. I think I’ll do it in a swell foop.
