You rascal you / Tu bribón tu

Thanks to all who sent warm birthday wishes. And to those who sang to me, I love every rendition and I’m saving the evidence. I had a great day. San Geraldo and I went to Goiko for dinner and, because it was my birthday, splurged on a shared Goiko cookie for dessert. We haven’t had one for a long time and it was as good as I remembered, although even half was more than I could manage. To think we used to each have one. That’s me below after I blew out the candle and before we dug in.

I’ve been looking forward to our road trip. We head tomorrow to Segovia. The wedding is Friday and then Sunday we’ll continue to Ávila for two days. The weather in Castile and León is usually significantly cooler than here. I’ve been looking forward to relief from the heat.

As I was selecting my layered wardrobe, I decided to check the forecast for rain. When I checked last week, the chance of rain the day of the wedding was 75%. Now, the chance of rain is down to 21% but the temps are unusually high. Daytime lows 30sC/mid-90sF for Segovia and mid-30sC/mid-90sF for Ávila. I’m not thrilled, but poor San Geraldo. At least the temperature begins to drop around 8 p.m. and is cool in the early part of the day — jacket weather for SG.

The above T-shirt is on display at El Corte Inglés. Clearly, the maker simply collected random words from American T-shirts. I’m still wondering when the Brooklyn Rascals were “established.” I suppose it doesn’t matter when you’re living fast and are wild and free on two wheels, you rascal, you.

  1. Happy you had a good day yesterday.
Smart to bring a variety of clothing…one just never knows.
    Enjoy your vacation/wedding.

    1. Jim:
We’re packing now. I think we’ll have enough for a month. Car trips make it too easy.

    1. Boud:
Thanks. I’m feeling really good lately (although I’m afraid to say it).

  2. It’s great to see you looking so happy with your birthday treat. Maybe the fact that the Rascals were established at all is the point — not the when!

When I was in college, part of my Spanish course (yes, I took Spanish, believe it or not) involved watching a very cheesy Spanish soap opera that was set in Segovia. I can’t remember the name of it now, but I still see all the characters in their polyester and sideburns. I finally went to Segovia when I was in Spain in 1994 and LOVED it, but was disappointed that people didn’t still dress that way! LOL

    1. Steve:
Another way to look at “established.” This is our first time in Segovia. Very excited.

    1. Rosemary Morton:
Aw shucks. It was a happy day and SG snapped a good picture.

  3. That’s not a cookie – it’s more of a gateau! Jx

PS Chinese-made t-shirts rarely make any sense.
    PPS Love the choon!

    1. Jon:
It’s a combination cookie, brownie, lava cake, with the added bonus of excellent vanilla ice cream (that helps with the overwhelming sweetness).

  4. I think “Rascal” is such a splendid word.
“Oh, you rascal!” Followed by a little affectionate eye roll. Not the sort of rascal Louis was singing about though.
You are one handsome guy. And you look like you could possibly be a rascal should the circumstances call for that.
    Safe travels.

    1. Ms. Moon:
I love the word, too. I might have been a rascal once or twice in my past.

    1. Michael:
SG snapped that photo and it’s the first time I saw a photo of myself and instantly said, I love it! Thanks.

  5. Great birthday photo! The “action” photos of someone blowing out candles is never flattering.

Enjoy the road trip and wedding — I hope the weather will suit both you and SG!

    1. Tundra Bunny:
I was lucky. SG was supposed to snap of me blowing out the candle, but he hit the wrong spot on the screen and missed the button. A wonderful mistake it turns out.

  6. I haven’t been online to read blogs in awhile (worse luck!) but I wanted to stop all to come here to join the conga line of congratulations. Happy birthday and many happy returns! May these next 12 months be marvelous for you! 😘
