In 2008, San Geraldo officiated at my cousin Eden’s wedding. She’s actually my 2nd cousin once removed. Her great-grandmother and my grandmother were sisters. I didn’t know anything about her (not even of her existence until only a few years earlier).
Eden’s grandfather, my mother’s first cousin, moved with his wife and eldest two daughters to southern California in the 1950s. Eden’s mother was born there. So I had heard of her grandfather and grandmother, but knew nothing more. San Geraldo and I moved to Santa Barbara from Palm Springs around 2003. The connections get so complicated at this point that I’ll just cut to the chase.
Another of my mother’s first cousins (always one of my favorites, and my sister Dale’s, too) was in L.A. for a visit and when connecting with her, we got to meet Eden’s mother, Joan. There was an immediate connection. And that’s where it started.
Josh decided to surprise Eden with a trip to Spain for their 15th anniversary thinking it would be fun to celebrate with the rabbinister (it was a non-denominational marriage). In addition, their anniversary is the same as ours, August 16th. We met them for dinner last night at the best restaurant closest to our door (a 2-minute walk). I said I would join them for a drink and see how long I could last in a chair. I lasted 2-1/4 hours. Maybe Eden and Josh are the cure. The last half hour or so was a bit of a battle but it was manageable. I paid for it this morning, but am doing well again this evening. The food was phenomenal as was the company.
Josh had monkfish with Iberian ham, Eden and I had skewered monkfish with langostinos, and the rabbinister had salmon. Lots to celebrate. We plan to meet for breakfast tomorrow before they head off for the rest of their Spanish celebration.

I’m so glad that things are looking up for you, Mitchell! How nice to have family/friends visiting, too. And, a great dinner out!
Judy C:
Finally very obviously better every day. And the visit with my cousin was great for everyone’s health.
Looks yummy, I thought I commented on this one yesterday.
It is a puzzlement. And it WAS yummy!
Oh, that salmon and the skewer look delicious! My stomach’s rumbling…
Aren’t all family connections a bit convoluted? Glad your second-cousin-once-removed and second-cousin-once-removed-in-law (phew!) chose to spend at least part of their anniversary holiday with you two! Jx
Jon:
It was a great visit. They’re doing a marathon holiday in Spain. Already in Ibiza.
How wonderful that you were all able to connect again! The food looks de-lish, of course!
Debra:
The food at this restaurant is phenomenal. And the visit was a joy.
THAT must have been a real treat for you!
Happy for you both.
Jim:
And each day has been better. Coffee and breakfast this morning was a breeze.
I think I’ll just comment on how happy everyone looks in the photograph, and how delicious all that food looks. I gave up trying to piece together the family tree information I now have a headache.B wahahaha
Mistress Borghese:
Be grateful. I was going to tell you about my mother’s cousin Rhonnie, who is my age and the daughter of my grandmother’s youngest brother (whom Dale and I adored) and his wife, Aunt May (whom Dale and I adored), whom I also adored. Aunt May reconnected me with Rhonnie when she moved to California to live with her eldest daughter from her first marriage. We then moved from San Francisco to LA where we reconnected with Rhonnie (who lived in Florida and whom I hadn’t seen in 20+ years) in person when we joined her to visit Aunt May. That’s when we met Joan and also Rhonnie’s elder sister, who met Joan years earlier although they had no idea they were even related and didn’t discover that until we were all together to see Aunt May. SG immediately fell in love with them all. And that’s the “less confusing” version of the story? Get it got it good!
Oh my God where’s the cliff notes?
Mistress Borghese:
Those ARE the Cliff Notes. I could really muddle your brain.
It been ages since I been here. Hope all is well.
How wonderful they got back to old country. All that food looks so good.
Coffee is on and stay safe.
Peppylady:
So good to see you here. It’s been ages since I’ve visited you. Got to check on my reminders!
I’m sure the food, and especially the company, were good for you.
Love,
Janie
janiejunebug:
I’m calling it the Eden and Josh Cure. We didn’t want to see them go after breakfast this morning.
So glad you are feeling better even though it is a slow road
Claudia:
I can honestly say, today is the first day of my obvious recovery. I’ve been sneaking in some very careful stretches that are helping. Can’t wait to get back into shape.
A Rabbinister and a FrankenScoot walked into a restaurant…. and had some scrumptious-looking salmon!
Tundra Bunny:
Of course FrankenScoot had scary looking monkfish!
Great-grandmother and grandmother were sisters? I take it they weren’t close in age.
Kirk:
They were close in age. Eden (second-cousin once removed) and I are separated by a generation. LOL:
Appetizing food, as always. 🙂
Walt the Fourth:
This place is a major treat. Josh likes to go big.
I suspect their visit was like a tonic ~ a good cleansing and putting a lot more in your psyche straight or gay whatever works. Good family relatives are the best tonic. There is something in the DNA of cousins that just seem to work and if it doesn’t then stay clear. Keep the faith buddy!! You are doing well from your pics!
Ron,
So much better. Spending time with them WAS a tonic.
Well, the food looks AMAZING, and I’m so glad you got to go out and apparently handled it well! I’m going to need to see a family tree to figure out all those connections. :/
Steve:
My family tree is not very extensive, so not quite so difficult to understand. SG’s could make you crazy with his 32nd great grandmothers. The food at La Carihuela Chica is always amazing.
So glad you are feeling well enough to get out and have dinner!
