An update on the Spanish patient: I feel great. Better than great. The humidity was below 40% Monday and Wednesay, I walked about 3.5 miles each morning. I could have kept going but again decided to make sure I had the energy for my return. I was fine. Next, I’m going all the way.
We had Sunday lunch at Tynan and Elena’s. It was too hot (supposedly the last of our 4th heat wave) for San Geraldo to walk the 15 minutes, so we drove. Elena is an exceptional cook and makes it all look easy. We had Northern Spanish–style stuffed peppers, and roasted potatoes (we’ve never had better than Elena’s, there were meatballs for daughter Paula because she doesn’t like peppers. So we got to enjoy Elena’s meatballs, too. Such great company and so good to be at their house again for a family meal.
We went to Primavera for dinner Tuesday night. I had a salad, SG had pizza, and he left half for my Wednesday breakfast. Yesterday, I ran errands. I finally got back to Casa Simon where I buy salt-free almonds and sugar-free dried cranberries for my daily breakfast. I also got dark chocolate covered raisins for SG, as well as sugar-free dried ginger for myself. I was treated like royalty when I arrived. I hadn’t been in since June and they said they were worried about me because I told them we weren’t traveling during the summer. I was happy to quickly tell them about the surgery and that I was completely well.
I stopped at the bakery and picked up sugar-free chocolate cookies. Two packages. They’re gone. I also picked up a cake-type cookie, called a torta, made with olive oil and blueberries. At least I think they’re blueberries. They’re not visible and the Spanish word for blueberry (arándano) is the same as the word for cranberry. One is arándano azul (blueberry) and the other is arándano rojo (cranberry) but the color is usually dropped from the name. It’s confusing.
We returned a while ago from morning coffee and second breakfast at Mesón Salvador. Isabel was still making the house beautiful. She gave the cats their second treats and Dudo immediately wanted me to have a siesta with him. He’s mostly proud of how well trained I’ve become. Moose, too. I’m back to kneeling in the kitchen and touching him while he eats his dry food. Not every time; I’m no pushover.
Una actualización sobre el paciente español: me siento muy bien. Mejor que genial. La humedad estaba por debajo del 40% el lunes y el miércoles caminaba aproximadamente 3,5 millas cada mañana. Podría haber seguido adelante, pero nuevamente decidí asegurarme de tener energía para regresar. Estaba bien. A continuación, voy hasta el final.
Almorzamos el domingo en casa de Tynan y Elena. Hacía demasiado calor (supuestamente la última de nuestra cuarta ola de calor) para que San Geraldo caminara los 15 minutos, así que condujimos. Elena es una cocinera excepcional y hace que todo parezca fácil. Así que también pudimos disfrutar de las albóndigas de Elena. Qué gran compañía y “Qué bueno estar en su casa nuevamente para una comida familiar.
Fuimos a cenar a Primavera el martes por la noche. Yo comí una ensalada, SG comió pizza, y dejé la mitad para mi desayuno del miércoles. Ayer, hice recados. Finalmente regresé a Casa Simon, donde compro almendras sin sal y arándanos secos sin azúcar para mi desayuno diario. También compré pasas cubiertas de chocolate negro para SG, así como jengibre seco sin azúcar para mí. Me trataron como a la realeza cuando llegué. No había venido desde junio y dijeron que estaban preocupados por mí porque les dije que no íbamos a viajar durante el verano. Yo felizmente les conté rápidamente sobre la cirugía y que estaba completamente bien.
Paré en la panadería. y recogió dos paquetes de galletas de chocolate sin azúcar. Se fueron. También compré una galleta tipo pastel, llamada torta, hecha con aceite de oliva y arándanos azules. Al menos creo que son arándanos. No son visibles y, como es común aquí, sólo se describen como tortas con arandanos. En inglés, siempre somos específicos y los llamamos blueberries (arándanos azules) o cranberries (arándanos rojos). ¿No es confuso?
Volvimos hace un rato del café de la mañana y del segundo desayuno en Mesón Salvador. Isabel todavía estaba embelleciendo la casa. Les dio a los gatos su segunda golosina y Dudo inmediatamente quiso que yo hiciera una siesta con él. Está sobre todo orgulloso de lo bien entrenado que estoy. Alces también. Vuelvo a arrodillarme en la cocina y tocarlo mientras come su comida seca. No todo el tiempo; No soy fácil de convencer.

What a lovely meal! Can you tell us more about the stuffed peppers? Because they don’t look like the stuffed bell peppers I know.

I’ll see if I can get a recipe from Elena. She’s on vacation for 10 days. The peppers used I think are pequillo peppers and she said they can be stuffed with ground meat, fish, and more. They were delicious and a complete surprise to us when she said she was making stuffed peppers. She said they’re from Northern Spain (where she’s from) and they looked nothing like the stuffed peppers we were familiar with.
What a lovely meal! Can you tell us more about the stuffed peppers? They look quite different from the stuffed bell peppers I’m accustomed to.

Very frustrating. My own replies are now disappearing. The peppers are called piquillo peppers and can be filled with any variety of things. I’ll see if Elena has a recipe to share (she may just have it in her head) when she’s back from holiday.
Humidity below 40%?? I might hate you. 😉

Don’t worry. It didn’t last. It was back up near 80% later in the day. Still, better than 92!

I’m glad you feel better than great! Woo hoo! Lower humidity will do that to a person. It’s interesting that blueberries and cranberries share a single word in Spanish. Are they even related, botanically? I’m not sure.

The lower humidity didn’t survive the day, but it was a nice reprieve. I did find that blueberries and cranberries are cousins. However, other info doesn’t agree. One site says they’re true berries. Another says they’re not. They’re related to other fruits, as well, so I don’t know why they share a name. Maybe because cranberries aren’t native to Europe — and they were all out of names when they finally got here.
Glad you are experiencing lower humidity. Today was like that here too, and I took an extra long walk. I always love your food photos!
