I just got back from a one-hour and 15-minute walk. Five miles! For the first time in ages I was actually out-pacing most of the other walkers — and one runner who does more of a shuffle. I started out under mostly clear and beautifully sunny skies. The temperature was 16˚C/61˚F and my nipples were to the wind. By the time I returned home the area was completely fogged over, the temperature was 20˚C/68˚F, and I was sweating.
Yesterday I met friends Jessica, Jason, and Sophie (4) for coffee and churros. I just had coffee. They are always a great pick-me-up. Saturday night we had dinner with Elena and Tynan at Primavera. I had their Christmas special Grinch pizza: Organic leek cream, fior di latte, organic pakchoi, spinach, spring onion (Familia Hevilla), sautéed with garlic, burrata, and almonds. It was amazing.
Other than the pizza, today’s photos are more of my hobbles around London. I tried.

That pizza looks delicious!
A walk around London….thanks for the tour.
Jim:
I thought the pizza sounded and look odd. But, oh was it ever good!
“An exhibition of obscene wealth and greed” OK, then you got the message. 😉
wickedhamster:
I found it depressing.
Grinch pizza! What a concept! One tiny edit to your otherwise accurate description of the Crown Jewels — “an exhibition of obscene STOLEN wealth and greed.”
Debra:
You’re so right about the missing word. And the pizza was surprisingly good.
Yes, you saw the looted jewels! Thanks for the walking tour.
Anon:
I was surprised by how depressed the collection made me.
Hm, I left a comment, and I don’t see it. It was just a thank you for the tour, including the looted jewels.
Anon:
Sometimes if you simply refresh the page, the comment will appear (but sometimes not!)
You have reminded me that I should make us a pizza soon and I shall. That one looks amazing. One of my favorite things to do is to make a very simple salad with arugula and a few other greens from the garden, salt, pepper, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar to eat on top of the pizza. So good.
Hurray for five miles! Good on you, Mitchell!

Ms. Moon:
The 5-mile walk used to be my standard for exercise. Other days, I might walk twice that in my wanderings. It felt so good to be back to it with no pain, and at my old pace. If you can reproduce the Grinch pizza, you won’t be disappointed.
It all looks to wonderful, I want to go, NOW!
Anon:
I want to go back now and WALK more.
Oh, I know Comptons very well – I’ve often had some meat there, but they’ve never done meals 😉.
The irony of your reference to our country’s pride and joy as “an exhibition of obscene wealth and greed”, immediately followed by your trip to Harrods has not gone unnoticed! Jx
Jon:
Comptons came up on a search of gay restaurants in Soho. We were disappointed to learn when we got there that it wasn’t a restaurant. However, the bartender gave us the warmest greeting despite the fact that we’re over 25 years old. I’d love to go back some time.
As for obscene wealth and greed, I found Harrods distasteful this time around, too.
That pizza looks incredible! One of those times it’s too bad I’m vegan.
Kelly:
I’m glad you’re able to appreciate the aesthetics.
Obscene wealth–that must be something about trump. All your photos of London are great. I’m enjoying them and dreaming of travel.
Love,
Janie
janiejunebug:
I’m enjoying going through the London photos now.
That’s my kind of pizza! I wish my crusts would turn out like that but, alas, I don’t have a wood-fired oven.
Walt the Fourth:
Those crusts are perfection. Organic whole-grain dough that’s better than any I’ve had. Is it maybe time for you guys to install a wood-fired oven?
Yesterday’s obscene wealth and greed is today’s sightseeing attractions, open to the general public.
Kirk:
It was a nice break!
That pizza looks delicious! I love all kinds of pizza and this one sure sounds a bit different. Great news about your walking progress. It seems like your summer surgery is just an unpleasant memory? Shirley sure keeps me out and about and walking. We did six miles yesterday. I do that for myself and to tire her out!
mcpersonalspace54:
Having a dog is good for you in so many ways. Yes, the summer surgery is a distant memory. Now I just need to get over the feet… and my attitude. I was hesitant about that pizza, but it’s was one of the best things I’ve had. My new favorite. I wonder if they’ll stick to it being seasonal. They could always change the name after Christmas.
I am sorry that your feet are still bothering you. That’s no fun at all.
mcpersonalspace54:
Well, they’re a lot better than they were. I can manage until I get back from New York.
Am loving the London photos
finlaygray:
Wish you were in them!
Ah yes, Comptons! I have a pic of a guy flashing his ass from the window during Pride in 2012:

Enjoy!
Steve:
Shoot! I don’t have a Flickr account and don’t feel like starting one now. But I may break down later in the day just to see the photo. Was the ass worth it?
