Singing in the bathtub / Cantando en la bañera

San Geraldo and I saw the nephrologist this afternoon. We received excellent and full information. She hadn’t phoned to schedule the kidney biopsy because she thinks it probably won’t be necessary.

What I have is an inflammatory kidney disease, an autoimmune disease that is very common and responds very well to treatment. Also, 50% of cases experience spontaneous remission within 6 months, so I’m not starting treatment yet. I’ve got new meds that we hope will reverse the edema and, therefore, the high blood pressure. I have another round of lab work Monday and will see her again Friday. I’ll then see her within another month. All will be evaluated again in 4 months to see if spontaneous remission is in the cards. (Does that mean I’m hoping to be remiss?)

It has nothing to do with my type 2 diabetes and nothing to do with my age. That’s as much detail as I feel like going into. I’m sure you understand. The bottom line is they have determined what it is and they know what to do about it.

Yesterday afternoon, I took a walk on the beach. It was only about 2.5 km (1.55 miles) but all on sand, which worked different muscles and was so very relaxing. The music video is simply because we all deserve a little laugh.

• So you can see how far you can walk, when the sea is calm, and still be only knee-deep.
• A view of the jetty from the beach.
• Vista del embarcadero desde la playa.
• A beautifully renovated chiringuito (beach bar). Redone a few years ago, the plastic vertical garden and plastic logo were not the best ideas under the Mediterranean sun.
• San Geraldo’s hot fudge with ice cream. A work of art.
• Helado de chocolate caliente de San Geraldo. Un trabajo de arte.
• Unfortunately, I had turned on the flash. The flapping fish tail is activated by touching the fish precisely where Moose’s head rests. I wonder if he just liked the feel.

  1. The only info I needed was that you’ve got a handle on it, and it seems like it’s manageable and that you’re on your way to feeling better.
    Good news!!

  2. Well you can’t seem to catch a break right now with your health huh? But at least it sounds like they have very good treatment plan for that. But at least you have that spectacular scenery, the beach, that delectable dessert, and mostly all three of your boys!

    1. Mistress Borghese:
It’s been an eventful year. And, yes, I’m still very lucky.

  3. Dr Boud here to say all we needed to know is that you have a diagnosis and a plan! And that the chocolate sculpture is too lovely to eat. People still lie in the sun?? Amazing to see oily folks roasting gently. They must be very young!

    1. Boud:
The roasters are either very young and unaware of their own mortality (and aging skin) or old and figure the damage is done and they look better with a tan.

    1. Kelly:
Yes, the news is much better than it could have been. Hoping to report soon that I’m feeling much better!

  4. You must be so relieved to finally have a medical diagnosis in hand and a treatment plan with a good success rate! Enjoy your stunning blue sky, ocean front walks and ice cream sundaes…. and Moose finding Nemo, LOL!

    1. Tundra Bunny:
It is a relief. (I can’t believe I feel that kidney disease is a relief!) Not a bad place to be for recovery and I feel like I’m getting exceptional care. Ha! Moose found Nemo. They cuddled together again last night. I think Moose has found a way to not set Nemo off.

    1. Debra:
The vanilla soft-serve ice cream is possibly the best I’ve tasted. And SG can almost taste it amid the chocolate.

    1. David:
So wonderful to know you’re having such an exceptional trip. Thanks.

    1. Jim:
Yes, I’m hoping for spontaneous remission. I have a feeling the traditional treatment isn’t something to look forward to. But I’ll do what I can.

  5. Yes. Thank you. I am so glad to hear this news. And to see that silly cat getting a head massage from a flopping fish.
And well damn- the girls are as shapely as the boys are there! And the sea and the sky are so blue. Just beautiful.

    1. MsMoon:
Moose made us both laugh. That‘s his new spot and pose. I hope to spy him when he first settles there to see if he sets off the fish. When I was walking on the beach I actually thought, after about 15 minutes, that I hadn’t seen any body beautifuls. THEN, they began to appear everywhere. My walk home was especially picturesque (or depressing).

  6. Well, that definitely sounds like reassuring news. Here’s hoping for a complete and speedy remission. That chiringuito definitely needs some attention.

    1. Steve:
I should share some photos of the rest of the chiringuito. It’s beautiful and so inviting. That side panel is a downright shame. Isn’t it odd to be relieved to know I have a specific kidney disease?!?

    1. Walt the Fourth:
It’s nice to have a better understanding. Looking forward to improvement now.

  7. Oh, Mitchell, I’m so happy to see this news today! I know you still have to deal with medication and hoping to be remiss ;), but … manageable and common… yes! And, no biopsy… yes!
Madeline Kahn and Moose are just icing on the cake!

    1. Judy C:
I so want to be remiss! I’m exhausted from the new meds, but that should pass. Hugs

  8. I am just now catching up on my blog reading. Hopefully you will be in remission. Fingers crossed. I just posted about my own kidneys! Parallel things happening I guess.

    1. Michael:
I was especially sorry to read about your kidneys — Michael and the family stones. Let’s both put this behind us.

    1. Kirk:
I have the same thought every time I come across a clip of Madeline Kahn. I miss her! Isn’t it incredible to realize Blazing Saddles came out so many years — before we were born!

  9. Good news Scoot. I’m starting to get a little leery about visiting this here blog spot. I worry, ya know? Madeline Kahn is the only reason I watch What’s Up Doc? these days. She was hilariously riveting and gorgeous and I could never take my eyes off of her. Loved her.

    1. Deedles:
Oh my darling Deedles, don’t forsake me. I’ll try to give you less to worry about. I haven’t walked into any walls, doors, or windows lately nor have I cut off any fingers.

I loved Madeline Kahn. She was one of a kind.

        1. Deedles:
I KNEW you’d appreciate that. I just read all the lyrics of the song? All I ever picked up was “Don’t forsake me oh my darling.” Do you know the actual lyrics? What a bizarre song!

  10. Oh Mitchell, so happy to read you and your doctors have a plan. Here’s to remission!🎉🎉🎉 The chocolate sundae looks incredible! The best ice cream I ever had in my life was in Havana. Moose is a sweetheart.😻

    1. Robin:
A reason to visit Havana! Sevilla had incredible artisan ice cream shops. Fig ice cream! A shop in our own little city here was voted as having the best dark chocolate ice cream in Spain. And, amazingly, we haven’t gotten there yet.

  11. I too am gladdened by your good news
That chocolate thing I give the prize to as the best looking dessert I’ve seen in ages.

    1. Urspo:
We’re spoiled by beautiful desserts, but that chocolate with ice cream is pretty darned good.

  12. What? No videos of you singing in the bathtub? FALSE AVERTISING, BUCKO!!!

You are not obligated to share all of the intimate details of your health with the blogger world at large. But we do all need to know if you are pooping OK. That should be a matter of public record!

    1. Sassybear:
You can find THOSE videos on Only Fans. And, in answer to the public record question: Yes.
