Some of you already know about the day of the Bloggers in New York City. David (Travel Penguin) and his husband, J (the on-again off-again blogger known as Wicked Hamster), trained up to New York so we could enjoy a meal together. David suggested we gather some others, and Sean (Sassybear) and his husband, Jeffrey, took the train down from near Albany. We all met for lunch at an excellent Italian Restaurant on W. 47th Street selected by Sean called Trattoria Trecolori.
David, J, and I got together once before in New York, once in Washington D.C., and even here in Málaga and Fuengirola. This was our first time meeting Sean and Jeffrey in person and they were a delight — warm, kind, funny, enlightened, interesting. I wish we all had more time together and I look forward to the next time. Sean and Jeffrey are famous for their enjoyment and making of martinis. David joined them. J and I abstained. But they sure looked good (and so did their martinis).
After lunch, I walked around nearby Times Square. Walking around Times Square isn’t like it was in the old days. I didn’t make a cent. I then walked back up Sixth Avenue to catch the subway because I knew it would be less crowded up there.
David arrived bearing gifts. He knows the quickest way to my heart. Chocolate. I still have some left.
Chocolate. Todavía me queda algo.

• David and his martini.
• David y su martini.

• Sean y Jeffrey y sus martinis.

• J caught between martinis.
• J atrapado entre martinis.

• E incluso la estatua de la libertad.

• Los chocolates italianos de David son excepcionales.

It was great fun, as will be the next time. I understand Time Square is a bit different now than it was in the 80’s.
David:
I left NY in 1980. I remember one trip in the late ´80s when I didn’t recognize Times Square (or 42nd Street),
Isn’t it great meeting up with blogger friends…….makes them ‘real’!
Last time in Times Square was on New Years Eve 1987!! ….a little crowded.
Jim:
I did a New Year’s Eve in the ´70s and said “never again.” A great group of guys and a nice addition to my trip.
Chocolates, great talks, laughs with great friends ~ what more could a trip home ask for!
Ron:
It was a good visit thanks to events and people like these.
Lovely! Isn’t it wonderful when we finally meet the people whose words we’ve been reading for years? For me, it’s always been like- Well, there you are!
You didn’t make a cent? Ha!
Ms. Moon
Ms. Moon:
Very special to get to meet other bloggers. Steve was my gift late last year. As for the money, admittedly I didn’t make a cent in the ´70s either… but I think I could have if I had wanted to.
You didn’t make a cent? Hanging out on the wrong corner, obviously! Jx
Jon:
I wonder what MY corner would look like.
Boud here. What a nice group! They look like people who know how to enjoy a party. I think you’re back home now, and hope you’re a bit warmer now.
Boud:
Currently 61F here. Going up to 68 today. I am NOT complaining.
Oh, Mitchell, I did not expect the “didn’t make a cent.” Almost fell off my chair laughing!
Kirk:
It’s a sad state of affairs. Now I’ve got nothing to fall back. on.
“If I can’t sell it, I’m gonna keep sittin’ on it!”
Jx
How fun to get together! A couple of those martinis are pretty fancy looking.
Kelly:
I know David had an espresso martini (which I love). I can’t remember what the others were. But they were all so tempting.
Though I aspire to Gibbs Rule No. 73 “Never meet your heroes”, this meeting fellow bloggers in person does look to be fun.
Shirley:
I must admit, Gibbs Rule No. 73 would be something I’d aspire to. But there are clearly exceptions.
What fun! And as a fairly new blog reader, it’s nice to put smiling, happy faces to Travel Penguin, Wicked Hamster and Sassybear since I’ve seen their comments on so many blogs!
Tundra Bunny:
And all truly good people. What a pleasure.
I have not been to NYC in decades, despite the fact my little sister lives there.
Laurent:
You’d hardly recognize it.
What a handsome bunch! I always marvel at the martinis (and other drinks) the Sean and Jeffrey make. I went through a martini phase when I was still in San Fran. A place called Martuni’s on Market St. was one of the places we went. But I was a boring martini drinker: Bombay sapphire gin, very dry, twist of lime.
Walt the Fourth:
I remember Martuni’s because I loved the name. Never went in. I became a martini drinker with my last corporate job, but I try to keep my drinking to a minimum which means I never got completely absorbed in the pleasure of it. Sean and Jeffrey clearly know how to do it. Had I had just the one mid-day like that, I would have fallen asleep on the subway. Have you ever had Fifty Pounds gin? I had a gin and tonic on the plane. The most delicious gin (pre-tonic) I’ve ever tasted.
You all look as thick as thieves! With martinis! Glad you had such a good time with the blogging buddies!
Debra:
It was a great lunch and wonderful connections. I’ll give you advance warning next time. Maybe you can sled down… or skate.
Oh, yum — I would definitely have opted for a martini! Sounds like a fun get-together! I would have fit right in. It’s so funny to see pics from Times Square, where I worked for so many years. It’s like a time warp.
Steve:
I wish I could have had a martini in the middle of the day without falling asleep on the subway. You would have enjoyed our gathering. I worked in what was the McGraw-Hill Building (1221 6th). That was fun to see, too, after all these years. Two lifetimes ago.
It is fabulous to meet bloggers that you follow. Love their names!
I can’t drink but the martinis look wonderful.
cheers !
Parsnip:
Those martinis did look wonderful. I drink little and one drink in the middle of the day would knock me out.
My city had a blogger group back in the day but it’s long gone
Adam:
Did you take part in it and enjoy it?
No, by the time I heard of them, they disbanded
As I’ve said many times, we had a great time and I loved meeting you all. If i had followed you to Times Square, you’d have made some money for sure. *smirk* Can’t wait to get together again. Let’s try to eke out more time to hang next year in NY. In the meantime, we’re researching flights to Spain.
Sassybear:
You guys were a highlight of my trip. And, yes, let’s make more time next time!
