As we always do, The Kid Brother and I went to the New York Transit Museum. We had planned to go with our friends Nick and Alyson who were in New York for several days during my visit, but we couldn’t work it out during the four days the museum was open. So we had fun with them in Coney Island (photos to come) and had fun ourselves a few days later at the museum. What amazed me was that we both got the senior’s discount!
We always enjoy the museum which is in the old Court Street Station. The station opened in 1936 and became a museum 40 years later. I had never even heard of it until 2018. For me, it has one of the best museum gift shops around. Everything perfectly on theme. I always buy The Kid Brother something while we’re there. This time, he coveted a boxed set of two train cars (the F train, which is the line closest to where we lived and to where he now lives). The trains are very nice reproductions.
I asked the clerk how much the box was and she said $32. “That’s good,” said The Kid Brother. I laughed and said, “Sure it’s good. I’m the one paying for it.”
Siempre le compro algo a The Kid Brother mientras estamos allí.

I know I say this all the time, but I just adore Chuck. I wish I could meet him in person….maybe one of these days when you’re in town. 🙂
J Barlow:
I love that he knows who you are! Meeting up with you would be a blast.
A museum we need to see. And yes, Chuck does drive the bus.
David:
I’m surprised how much I like this museum. I think you’d really appreciate it and would probably have a better understanding of the workings of the trains.
Boud here. You’re a good brother! Looks like both kids had a good time.
Boud:
We have a good time there every time. I’m grateful to be there for him. What a comedy duo.
A transit museum is such a good idea! Looks like a lot of fun too.
Debra:
I was surprised at how much I liked it that first time. They’ve done a great job and we enjoy it every year.
No wonder the Kid Brother looks forward to your visits!
I like what he fixates on…….lol
Jim:
This was an especially sweet visit with him.
I know you must love being with your brother. He sounds like a hoot. I’m glad you got him the train cars. I bet he loves them. And hey- great price!
Thanks for the video trip down memory lane. Oh, how we all used to love The Honeymooners. Remember the June Taylor dancers?
Ms. Moon
Ms. Moon:
My brother sometimes makes my brain explode. But he’s been doing so much better in recent years. And, no matter what, I love him and love seeing him. And, yes, the June Taylor Dancers!
I am just catching up on blog reading from my time away. It sounds like you had a great time in NYC. I loved looking at all of your photos and to see that you had a good lunch with fellow bloggers. Your trip back to Spain reminds me of why I no longer like to fly. It is becoming such a hassle!
mcpersonalspace54:
With each ordeal through airports I find I’m more resistant to flying. I’m now thinking of train trips around Spain.
I hear that the trains in Spain are efficient and fast.
mcpersonalspace54:
I love train travel in Spain. We’ve trained to Madrid, Cordoba, Ronda, Seville, and several other places.
Much better than Amtrak I am sure!
mcpersonalspace54:
My experiences with Amtrak were never exceptional, so for me yes it’s better here.
I love that you take a photo each time in the same spot! The only subway I’ve ever ridden is the Tube in London.
Kelly:
Covid ruined the series of photo, but at least that’s all it ruined for us. I rode the Tube a lot in London this last visit in November. Had only been on it a couple of times before then. The NYC subway can be a bit exhausting and overwhelming at times, but it’s my preferred mode of travel in the city.
Again great photos and happy to see you both enjoyed yourself
Laurent:
We did have a really good time together. It warms my heart to see him doing so well.
BUT CAN IT CORE A APPLE?!
Erik:
“Oh, it can core a apple! Ha Ha!”
Ha! I loved that dog food skit. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it before. I also don’t think I ever went to the transit museum in New York, despite living there for ten years! How is that possible?
BTW, sorry I’ve been absent from your blog. I still can’t access it at work for some reason, but I’m working on getting the filter block removed. For some reason the filter thinks you’re pornography! (Consider it a compliment!)
Steve:
I’m so proud to be pornographic! Thanks for finding your way back when you can.
That transportation museum looks great — I can see why you and your brother have so much fun there!
A few years ago, I organized a staff meeting at our local Science Center — it has interactive science displays for kids of all ages and an IMAX Theatre. The Center was closed to the public for our meeting that day, so naturally, I spent my lunch hour exploring all of it. I even climbed up into the mock Combine Harvester and was steering it through a ripened wheat field like a drunken sailor when a Centre staff member suddenly materialized and said, “Ma’am, this simulator is for children only!”… to which I replied, “Well in dog years, I’m only 7!!” The guy just shook his head and walked away.
Tundra Bunny:
Had The Kid Brother been with you, he would have been mortified. I jokingly threaten to break the rules (like going out through an entrance door) and he nearly has a conniption. Anyway, it really annoys me when things I want to try are restricted to kids.
Looks like loads of fun!
Love the “timeline” photos. Jx
Jon:
Too bad Covid knocked out a couple of years of the timeline. I look forward to that every year.
What fun!
Walt the Fourth:
We had a great time together… and now I recover.
That subway train looks kind of warm and cozy, compared to the way New York subways have portrayed in movies and Tv shows made at a later date. I, too, would like to go to that museum.
Gleason’s fainting fit at the end of that scene was hilarious.
Kirk:
Those old subway trains certainly had a much different feel than the contemporary ones. I imitated the fainting fit in my hotel — where I had the bed to land on. The Kid Brother loved it, but he commented that I was supposed to fall on the floor.
Choo choo 🚄
Adam:
Is that the Chattanooga Choo Choo?
Looks like a fun excursion. Those multi-year pics are great.
I once dated a guy who was obsessed with the Honeymooners, so I am all too familiar with this scene.
Sassybear:
KB is obsessed with the Honeymooners, Get Smart, Superman, Gomer Pyle, Abbott & Costello… oh never mind. 50s and 60s comedy routines! I also regularly sing TV theme songs for him. This visit was Car 54 and Gilligan’s Island.
