Creativity takes courage / La creatividad requiere coraje

While I was in New York, I wrote about my cousin Brooke and her family (click here). Brooke is one of my eldest cousin, Evie’s, grandchildren. She and her sister, Carly, both graduated from Parson’s School of Design in Manhattan. Carly, a gifted and skilled photographer, is about to finish a Master’s degree while Brooke graduated last year with a degree in Illustration and is finding her way as an artist. She’s a gifted and skilled illustrator, painter, printmaker. You name it. And she sells a lot of her works at art shows and sales around the northeast. I was lucky enough (loved enough) to be gifted several of her works. They’re on my desk waiting to be framed.

I have a large extended family. If I could choose my family, I still would have chosen Brooke and Carly (and their parents, who did a phenomenal job raising their daughters, and who are also very lucky to have two such wonders).

We had a great long FaceTime chat last night with our friends in Colchester, Nick and Alyson. It felt like we spent an evening together. We changed our clocks for spring over the weekend. I didn’t expect springing forward to be difficult but, since my illness, I sleep a lot and I sleep soundly. Often I sleep later than I’d like. So, these last two mornings, 10 and 11 o’clock have come much too soon. I’m about to do some laundry and get out to enjoy another beautiful day in Córdoba. Dizzies be damned!

Note: The title is a quote from Henry Matisse.

  1. Creativity does indeed take courage and a lot of patience, LOL! I’m surprised you don’t produce Tuxedo cat art since you have two beautiful in-house stooges, er models, in Moose & Dudo!

I also emailed you a short animation video the other day about a related topic, so check your spam holder, Scoot!

    1. Tundra Bunny:
I wrote back to you yesterday. Did you not receive that? I loved it! Every day I say, I WILL start drawing again… and I don’t. It’s still a goal.

      1. Nope, no email from you — I even checked the spam folder! Since I forwarded the video from Miss Cellania’s blog, perhaps your response went there? Or into the internet ether…. c’est la vie! Glad you liked the video anyways!

        1. Tundra Bunny:
You should have it now. Oddly, your message came from blogger.com and not from your email address. I resent it to your email address. Cripes!

    1. David:
Brooke’s mother was a gifted artist when she was young, but she took her life in a different direction.

  2. “Often I sleep later than I’d like. So, these last two mornings, 10 and 11 o’clock have come much too soon.” Same here, but without any medical cause that I know of. I just love sleep; my dad was the same way. I had a roommate in college who used to tell me “Ah! Up at the crack of noon again I see…”

    1. wickedhamster:
It’s great sleep. Something I was never known for, unless I was in a drunken stupor.

  3. Dang. What a family! Brains, beauty, talent, creativity, and courage. Her website is lovely.

    1. Ms. Moon:
Brooke’s family is exceptional. Even her father who isn’t my blood relative. I love them.

  4. Botanical illustration takes endless patience! She’s very good. All your family are so gifted. It’s a treat to meet two more.

    1. Mistress Borghese:
She sells them as note and greeting cards and they’re beautiful. Some of the ones she gave me are note cards. I, too, love that fox print. So much personality.

  5. Your prints are lovely! I love the fox. In the top photo, I want that print of edible flowers.

    She is very talented!

  6. You have a talented family, and of course, that includes you! I love sleeping until noon. I go back to work tomorrow so I have to set my alarm. Boo.

    Love,
    Janie

    1. janiejunebug:
I hope the first day back went smoothly. Sorry. Working for a living sucks.

  7. I love your cousin’s illustrations! So pretty! She really has talent, but coming from the Block family, that doesn’t surprise me. 🙂

    Jennifer

    1. Jennifer:
Thanks. (Even though she comes from the non-Block side of the family.)
