I’ve had a bit of a shopping spree these last two days. The weather has been much more civilized. It was only 21˚C/69.8˚F this morning when I walked the three minutes to the health center for a doctor’s appointment. It’s more than 10C/20F higher than that now, but still civilized. San Geraldo went to the vet to pick up more meds for Dudo and then finally mailed his packages at the post office.
Yesterday, I walked a bit and bought myself a shirt at El Corte Inglés. It’s black on black with embroidery and open stitching. The photo doesn’t show how black it is, although it does show the wrinkles. It will look great with a contrasting T-shirt underneath. There was a Hugo Boss shirt I liked. It was on a mannequin but I couldn’t find it anywhere else. I asked a sales clerk. “Oh, we don’t have any,” she smilingly said. I refrained from telling her she should remove the one from the fricking display then.
I had window-shopped at a nearby shoe store before browsing the shoe department at El Corte Inglés. I’ve been in serious need of some new shoes. Today I went back to that shoe store and bought a pair of sneakers. A brand I like, Atom made by Fluchos. They are what I consider cheap (under €100 and on sale, too); are very comfortable; and last forever.
At that point San Geraldo had finished up at the post office two minutes away so we met up and went for coffee. He had second breakfast. I had a sort of apple pie. You can’t order iced coffee here. It’s just not a thing. So when we order our coffees and ask for a glass of ice, as well, it’s immediately obvious we’re not from here (as if it weren’t already obvious). Ah well, some old habits die hard. We then have to pour the hot coffee over the ice. Since that falls under the category (in my book) of cooking, I let SG do it when he’s with me.
He went home and I returned to El Corte Inglés to pick up some empanadas for lunch. I then stopped again at the shoe department and bought myself a pair of Skechers. I have never in my life owned a pair of Skechers. But I kind of like the look of these, they’re “slip-ins,” and when I slipped in I didn’t want to slip back out.
A huge box of cat food and treats arrived right before I went for my second walk of the day and we now await the new cushions I bought for the terrace. I’m excited about those. San Geraldo is convinced the cats don’t go on the terrace chairs because they don’t like the fabric. Seriously? Oddly, we would love it if they went on the chairs because then they could see what’s going on down below. Right now all they see are birds.
I like SG’s new bathroom magnifying mirror so much that I’m going to order one for myself. I’m in the mood to shop.
“Oh, no tenemos”, dijo sonriendo.
Nunca en mi vida he tenido unas Skechers.

Always good deals out there this time of year/season change.
I like your shirt and shoes………great walking ahead for you!
Jim
I had hoped for better sales at el
Corte inglés but it was awfully picked over we and limited.
I have a couple of pairs of Skechers step ins, I like them, not for real long walks for my feet. My father had a long story about “I can’t sell you the one on display, then I wouldn’t have any to show.” It has turned cooler here, nice walking weather.
David:
I bought the blue sneakers, Fluchos, because I know they’re great for long walks. I’ve been breaking them in today and love them. I’m looking forward to testing out the Skechers. El Corte Inglés had a huge selection. But have you ever seen On Cloud that Michael mentioned in his comment? I’d love to try a pair of those.
I have seen people wearing those. I will want a new pair of shoes for next springs adventure.
I have never owned (or worn) Skechers either. They look nice, though, as does your embroidered shirt. That Boss shirt looks like it might go out of shape pretty quickly after a couple of turns in the washing machine, so it’s just as well they were out. (Or is it dry-clean only?)
I remember going to a Housing Works charity shop in NYC one time to buy a shirt they were displaying in the window and they wouldn’t sell it to me. They said if they did that they’d have to find another shirt to put in the window. I was so annoyed that I’ve never forgotten it.
Steve:
I hope I’m happy with the Skechers. They sure were comfortable when I tried them on. I have a feeling you’re right about the Boss shirt. If I sell you that, I’ll have to find something else for the window? Oh dear god. Isn’t that the whole point?
Sometimes one does just get in the mood to shop. I think you did quite well with your purchases. That shirt is a nice one. You have an excellent sense of style.
I like the blue shoes a lot. I have a pair of Sketchers which look quite a bit like yours. They are my gardening shoes and I have to say I love them. They are very comfortable and I do not miss laces becoming untied as I’m working. At first I felt odd about it. Is it lazy to have step-in sneakers? Is it an old fogey thing? NO! It is a fine and sensible thing.
That sort-of apple pie looks amazing.

Ms. Moon:
I’m often in the mood to shop. I’m wearing the blue shoes today and I love them! I always want one pair of comfortable shoes that I can step into. Great for doctor’s appointments and whenever I want to try something on. That little apple pie was SO good. It’s really just a large apple tart sliced like a pie.
I really like the shirt. We need a photo of you wearing it. I love Sketchers and they make a variety of styles, including some great sandals (arch-fit, so they’re good for plantar fasciitis). My favorite sneaker brand (tennis shoe, or if I’m being accurate, tenny shoe!) is Brooks.
Kelly:
I found lots of cool-looking shoes, but most didn’t the cushioning and arch support I like. I never used to care! I do love Brooks. Haven’t had a pair in a long time. Didn’t see any when I was out shopping.
Good old Skechers. My walking shoes are Skechers, comfortable, I love them. The men’s 7 is wide enough and I plan on that size from now on. Women’s shoes are hopeless, don’t fit me.
So yes on your shoe shopping. We need a modeling picture of the shirt.
I never feel like shopping, so I don’t really know how that works.
Boud:
Once the shirt is washed and pressed, I’ll model it. I was pleased with how well the Skechers fit. And both new pairs of shoes were the same size 45/11. When I was a balloon from fluid retention, I had a difficult time with all my shoes. I bought two new pairs to hold me over at the time, size 46/11.5 and wide. My feet now swim in those. I promise a modeling pic once the shirt is washed and pressed. I’m ashamed to say I love to shop. I’ve been browsing lately, too, but that’s really not my style. I like to walk out with something as a reward for my efforts. SG absolutely loathes shopping. But I can understand. His feet are too big to find shoes in regular shops. His arms are super long, so long-sleeved shirts in his size are often not satisfactory. While I’m mostly off the rack with a good fit, he’s not built for off the rack, so shopping is not relaxing.
You are sure in a shopping mood! My walking/running shoes are On Clouds. I think they are made in Switzerland. They are the most comfortable shoes that I have ever had, but they are expensive!
Michael
I’m still in a shopping mood, especially after googling On Clouds! I’ve never seen them in a shop. Will have to look around town some more. Found them all over the Spanish web.
When I went to Italy last summer as a chaperone on a school trip, I noticed a whole family was wearing them. I asked the mom about the shoes, and she kept raving about how comfortable they were. I finally bought a pair about three to four months ago and I know that my next pair will be On Clouds again.
Ooooo, I like your new shirt with its embroidery and open stitching! And your new shoes are nice. I had to go buy a new pair of white runners about a month ago. Everyone raves about Sketchers slip-ons so I went there to check them out. The store was huge, packed with people, and there was like one teenage clerk on the sales floor who wasn’t able to provide any kind of real help. So I said to hell with Sketchers and went to another store with good service and bought my runners there. They have fluorescent green laces which will look cool until one breaks and I replace the entire set with standard white laces.
Debra,
I
So hate that when shoes come with cool laces I can’t replace.
I was thinking those first shoes were SG’s large size kitten heels ….
Love the new shirt and I do love a good pair of Skechers!
Bob,
Can you imagine those poorly shaped pumps in a size 15 wide?!?
I’ve owned Skechers in the past, but never slip-ons. Is that the thing now in shoes or something?
I’ve always had a pair of slip-ons and there are a variety of different options now.
Oh, I like all of those things! You’ll look great in that black shirt— what a shame that they didn’t have any of those mannequin shirts… I like that one, too.
Judy C,
I’ll bet the Hugo Boss shirt was more than I’d want to spend on another knock-around shirt.
I have two pairs of Skechers slip-ins which are quite comfy, but I also wear their sneaker mules every day! Consistently good fit, arch support and value too.
If SG’s theory about the boys not liking the terrace chair fabric proves true, you know we’ll wanna see photographic proof of Dudo & Moose snoozing on the new cushions, LOL!
Tundra Bunny,
I so hope to have photographic evidence.
I can’t figure out the layout of that shower… but the mirror looks wonderful. Mine falls off the wall from time to time. Usually we’re in another room when it happens. “Did you hear that? What was that?” Oh… the shaving mirror. Again. And now the shower squeegee has started leaping from the wall as well. Grrrr.
Walt the Fourth
That’s a portion of the shower reflected in the wall mirror. I’ll share another pic today of the whole thing. We had a shaving mirror attached to the big mirror with suction cups in Fuengirola. It fell off. We had no idea where the noise came from until we found broken glass all over the floor!
(looking at the pic on top) I didn’t know Sketchers came with heels now; you’d look divine in those! “Since that falls under the category (in my book) of cooking, I let SG do it when he’s with me” is one of the funniest things you’ve ever written.
wickedhamster:
I decided against them. They looked kind sloppy in a size 5. Imagine them in an 11. Besides, the heels weren’t high enough.
78˚ here at 8:30 and only projected to hit 87˚ but also overcast and rain. I have a pair of Sketchers that a friend gave me because they were too small for her. Not slip ons. I need a new pair of winter shoes for the few days it’s too cold for sandals. I’m looking at some Orthofeet shoes that are slip ons. I saw a shirt I liked and the only one in my size was on the mannikin. I made the sales clerk take it off.
This is me, Ellen in Texas. Apparently I inadvertently opened a wordpress account connected to another blog I follow. Was surprised to see it show up here.
Ellen abbott ellenshead ellen in texas:
Those log-ins and where they suddenly show-up could drive you crazy! But now I know all your aliases. Had that shirt on the mannequin been my size, I would have done the same. Although I found the shirt on-line for €199.95 and that’s more than I’d spend for a knock-around shirt. PLUS, the shape when worn on the models already sags. Never mind!
I cannot remember when I last bought an item of clothing – unless you call sneakers clothing.
If I do someday I would get something nice like your shirt.
Urspo:
I do enjoy binge shopping.
