Moose at bedtime / Moose (no alce) a la hora de dormir

La versión en español está después de la versión en inglés.

When I go to bed at night, Moose is often in the bedroom waiting (if he’s not pacing the apartment yowling for us both to come to bed). Last night when I arrived, he was already sound asleep on the bedroom chair. He slowly awoke and jumped onto the bed for the attention he deserves. Usually, he gets excited and makes a flying leap. Here’s what I caught of sweet Moose on this calm night. I usually rest my head on his or on his body and also give him kisses. That was beyond my capabilities this time. It’s not easy to record and cuddle simultaneously, at least not for me, especially when I’m trying to strip for bed at the same time. Nothing else is needed today, as far as I’m concerned.

  1. I love the conversation with Moose! Definitely communication going on in detail. My cats used to start nagging me to go to bed, then when I finally did, they’d take off and play. I think they were just getting me out of the way for the night! Boud

    1. Boud:
Because I was recording, I kept mostly quiet. Normally there would be a running commentary with more chirps and meows from Moose.

    1. Robin:
Usually, he’s a lot more vocal because I am, but I didn’t want to hear myself on the recording so I kept relatively quiet.

  2. Oh, so docile! And where’s D while all this is going on?
Unlike my duo, your M is free with his vocalisations and tummy-purrs. I never hear anything at all from mine, except when one take a swipe at the other and a short, sharp miaow emanates. But as for purring, not a sound from either. I have to put my hand on their front to feel if there’s any vibration which there quite often is. And if I stroke or tickle either for even less than half of the time that you manage I get a ‘That’s enough!’ clout to remind me who’s boss.
But, oh, to have D and M showing their appreciation must be so comforting.

    1. Raybeard:
Dudo was asleep on top of the cat tree in SG’s office. He regularly comes in to say good-night. With him, I’m “required” to lie in bed on my left side with two pillows aligned next to me. Dudo will then looked deep into my eyes before settling down next to me to be petted. This lasts anywhere from 3 to 15 minutes and then he’s gone for the night. He had been sleeping on the bedroom chair until Moose usurped his place. I’m surprised there have been no fights over the chair. Dudo has been spending much more time alone lately.

      1. Sounds like Dudo is the ‘sensible one’ out of the two of them, knowing when a fight just isn’t worth the hassle, not to say injury. I do feel sorry for him, though.

        1. Raybeard:
Oh, Dudo is often itching for a fight. I don’t know why he’s been so complacent about the chair. But, sadly, Dudo has slowed down a lot.

  3. Moose sounds like Sophie. As soon as I make noise about bed, she is ready. She too often paces and gives me looks of Stop farting around and get to bed. She doesn’t realize I have a process. Now she has learned to just stay in the living room and seems to know when I’m ACTUALLY getting into bed. Loved the video accompaniment.

  4. Moose is such a cutie petootie! I can see why he’s impatient at bedtime — who wouldn’t enjoy a nice neck/shoulder massage before going to sleep? Even though he rolls over like a dog, does Moose not like belly rubs?

    1. Tundra Bunny:
I can rub Moose’s belly but only briefly. He simply pushes my hands away with his paws and rolls back over when he wants me to stop (and I didn’t want him to roll back over this time). By rolling over on his back, he’s just showing me how safe his feels and that he’s open for more affection.

  5. Now THAT is a happy cat. Just watching that video lowered my blood pressure, I think! Were those church bells at 2:20, or a clock in your house?

I was also going to ask where Dudo is, but I saw your answer to Raybeard above.

    1. Steve:
That was our Grandfather clock. It’s a bit fast and needs to be adjusted (again). Usually, I rest my head on Moose and feel his purrs. So soothing.

    1. ellen abbott:
They can be so sweet and comforting. And they can be so demanding and bossy.

    1. Olivia:
Sadly, we don’t have any good linen right now. I need to upgrade this year. That is from IKEA, however, and it’s my favorite. I love resting my head on Moose and feeling his purr as well as hearing it. So therapeutic.

  6. Cats are better snugglers than dogs generally. I remember my old dog Zelda wouldn’t do much in that area unless she was sitting in my lap

I’ve been around some dogs that are major snugglers. I love hugging big dogs. But, cats and their purring–the best therapy.

    1. Sassybear:
Nope! You should be thanking me! I’m sure it wouldn’t have been flattering.
