We’ve had some hot days (not as hot as many people are experiencing) and the air has been hazy. A calima, blowing Saharan sand, has been affecting much of the area. It’s worse inland and has included some rain, which means it was raining mud. Here it’s been mostly just hazy and dusty, and humid (today is much less hazy, but warmer). Not great weather for lots of physical activity. So we four guys have been hanging around the house much of the time.
Dudo and Moose wouldn’t mind more time on the terrace but they’re happy to have us at home. After my breakfast and their treat #2, Dudo comes into my office and orders me to come to bed with him. I hate to disappoint him, so I’ve obeyed, but I then fall asleep for an hour and I’ve been sleeping enough without his help. At that time of day, Moose usually settles on his own — a rare thing for Moose, who likes company. Yesterday, I guiltily said “no” to Dudo. Today’s photos are all about them (the first one and last two are Dudo), except for the photo above. The cats get more use of our dining room than we do.
I thought I would finally replant this desert rose and bonsai it, but then it started to bloom again. And how can I risk losing these stunningly vivid flowers that are almost too vibrant to photograph? So, once again, some other time.
Isabel just left. The house smells clean. The cats are mildly traumatized by her 3-hour activity level — even if she does give them their third treats of the day. Despite the heat, I’m going to go out for at least a brief walk this afternoon. Starting tomorrow, we will be under an amber alert with temperatures of possibly 39˚C/102˚F and hot “terral” winds. Maybe then I’ll try a workout in our air-conditioned comfort.
Hemos tenido algunos días calurosos (no tan calurosos como los que está experimentando mucha gente) y el aire ha estado brumoso. Una calima, que arrastra arena del Sahara, ha estado afectando gran parte de la zona. Es peor en el interior y ha incluido algo de lluvia, lo que significa que ha llovido barro. Aquí ha estado principalmente brumoso y polvoriento, y húmedo (hoy está mucho menos brumoso, pero más cálido). No es un clima ideal para mucha actividad física. Así que los cuatro hemos estado dando vueltas por la casa la mayor parte del tiempo.
A Dudo y Moose no les importaría pasar más tiempo en la terraza, pero están felices de tenernos en casa.
