Cats, connoisseurs of comfort / Gatos, conocedores del confort

We’ve had some hot days (not as hot as many people are experiencing) and the air has been hazy. A calima, blowing Saharan sand, has been affecting much of the area. It’s worse inland and has included some rain, which means it was raining mud. Here it’s been mostly just hazy and dusty, and humid (today is much less hazy, but warmer). Not great weather for lots of physical activity. So we four guys have been hanging around the house much of the time.

Dudo and Moose wouldn’t mind more time on the terrace but they’re happy to have us at home. After my breakfast and their treat #2, Dudo comes into my office and orders me to come to bed with him. I hate to disappoint him, so I’ve obeyed, but I then fall asleep for an hour and I’ve been sleeping enough without his help. At that time of day, Moose usually settles on his own — a rare thing for Moose, who likes company. Yesterday, I guiltily said “no” to Dudo. Today’s photos are all about them (the first one and last two are Dudo), except for the photo above. The cats get more use of our dining room than we do.

I thought I would finally replant this desert rose and bonsai it, but then it started to bloom again. And how can I risk losing these stunningly vivid flowers that are almost too vibrant to photograph? So, once again, some other time.

Isabel just left. The house smells clean. The cats are mildly traumatized by her 3-hour activity level — even if she does give them their third treats of the day. Despite the heat, I’m going to go out for at least a brief walk this afternoon. Starting tomorrow, we will be under an amber alert with temperatures of possibly 39˚C/102˚F and hot “terral” winds. Maybe then I’ll try a workout in our air-conditioned comfort.

  1. Boud here. Houseplants will do that, sense you’re up to something, then put on a spurt. Insurance.

    1. Boud:
These desert roses have forgotten all about dormant and bloom cycles. They’ve been blooming on the terrace since early March of last year with a one week break before this round started up.

  2. I’m not sure what a “terral” wind is, but at those temperatures it can’t be good. The desert rose, though, is looking amazing!

    1. Steve:
A terral is a hot wind that tends to blow from the land to the sea. If you’re familiar with the Santa Ana winds of California that blow hot, dry air from the desert to the sea, this is similar. Terrals usually last no longer than a few days. So there’s hope. We’ve got a severe warning for high temps beginning early afternoon.

  3. No. I’d be afraid to touch that desert rose. Do you know how to bonsai? Can people do that? I kill bonsai. They run screaming when they see me.
No. This is not the time for you to be out walking. That’s insane. Stay in and make your cats happy.

    1. Ms. Moonsigh:
With this one I’ll just trim the roots that are growing out of the bottom of the pot and get the plant better positioned, I don’t think I’ll go for the whole bonsai shallow pot process. Yeah, definitely staying in today. It’s around 90 now and expected to get over 99. At least it’s only 33% humidity, but the dry wind is exhausting. Hope you’re feeling fine quickly.

    1. Boud:
Nothing in spam and I just replied to a comment from you. I guess there was a delay.

  4. I loved seeing your cats all relaxed and enjoying just doing nothing! Wow, it is hot where you are, as it is here. We are under a heat advisory. The weather says that today and tomorrow the heat index will be close to 105 or 106. Yikes. I start sweating the minute I walk out of the house.

    1. Michael:
It’s currently 95 and feels like 103 here. Very rare for our place on the beach! My only forays have been to the terrace for a few moments. The cats are once again relaxing and enjoying doing nothing… inside.

  5. Second row first photo.
Amazing twists and turns of Cat wonder. Adore the sweet foofty face.
    The gud dugs send woofs.

  6. Pretty kitties. I’ve been sleeping a lot, too. It’s a good way to deal with the heat and humidity.

    Love,
    Janie

  7. I don’t know why but your blog doesn’t update in my blogroll and so suddenly I’ve missed several days of posts.

And I missed the Cat Cavalcade!

    1. Bob:
I have a few blogs I had to sign up for a few times until it finally took. I tried getting help from WordPress for one. They told me how to sign up. I KNOW how to sign up, I told them. Blogger never responded. I dunno. Nobody knows.
