I’ve got a handle on it / Lo tengo controlado

I didn’t post anything Thursday because there hasn’t been much activity on my blog in recent days and I wanted to give you all a chance to catch up. Have you caught up?

We brought pizza to Luke and Beckett and their parents Wednesday night. It was so good to see each other. Beckett turned 3 in late August. I had bought dinosaur birthday candles for him when I was in New York in April (at a shop I love called Exit9 Gift Emporium near my hotel in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn). San Geraldo picked up a chocolate mousse cake for dessert and we celebrated the birthday a little late. Apparently, it was his third third-birthday cake.

We brought an IKEA bag with us when we picked up the pizzas. San Geraldo asked if I could manage all three pizzas and I said, “Yeah. I’ll just carry the bag by the handles.” Oh, that look of panic in his eyes. He believed me.

OK, I’ve done it before — when I was maybe 11. And I was just trying to be macho. Everyone knows boys carry their books under their arms. So that’s what I did with the pizza. Some months later, I did the same thing with a cherry topped cheesecake fresh from the bakery. It’s comical in hindsight, but the names my parents called me made it not so funny at the time. It’s good to laugh about it now.

I can’t let this day pass without saying that, although I am not a royalist, I did truly respect and admire Queen Elizabeth II. I share my condolences with those who have lost her and I thank her for many things, including her daredevil stunts with Daniel Craig and her tea with Paddington Bear.

.

¿Te has puesto al día?

Él me creyó.

• Less than an hour after the chocolate cake.

  1. Chocolate cake does that to me, too!

The loss of HM The Queen has shaken everyone – even non-royalists – to the core. Things will never be quite the same again… Jx

    1. Jim:
I wonder if Beckett will expect one birthday cake for every year of his age for the rest of his life.

    1. Steve:
Aren’t those candles great? There were 4. Kathleen put them away for next year. We have a number of IKEA bags and use them all the time.

  2. I was getting ready to say…when did Ikea start serving pizza?!?!? Im off for the weekend to the hills of the Poconos…get some relief from the heat.

    1. Mistress Borghese:
I hope you’re having a grand time in the Poconos. Beautiful Mount Airy Lodge? A champagne glass bathtub? IKEA does have pizza but it comes in 8 pieces and you have to assemble it.

    1. Urspo:
We have a number of them. I don’t know how ecological they are, since they’re just about indestructible and will outlive the planet.
