We were unable to attend Mesón Salvador’s Halloween dinner this year, which was the pits for us. I’m sure the party was excellent and I hope to be able to share photos of what they served. We don’t have trick-or-treaters here, but our neighbors bring their two daughters around. Their daughters are 5 and 9 and are learning English in school, and doing phenomenally well. We all talked about my helping the older of the two practice English conversation (she suggested it). They seemed to love the idea. I’ll have to make sure to follow up, because that would bring me joy. I bought special Halloween treats for them both plus some extras in case friends stopped by. I have chocolate to eat.
San Geraldo baked his spiced apple cake again this week and we enjoyed it with breakfast (you can see the apple cake and my gourmet breakfast above), and after lunch and dinner.
Isabel was here making the house beautiful today while we enjoyed coffee with Lulu, who brought us pastries from her favorite Finnish bakery. San Geraldo and I enjoyed those when we got home.
Then you’ll see a couple of photos from yesterday’s walk and a quick look at San Geraldo’s office the night (and any night) before Isabel is here. It’s immaculate now, but won’t be for long. This is actually a huge improvement over the last year when there was that 4-foot pile of clothes in the corner (there’s a new, smaller pile in front of that space). His great-great-grandfather looks over it all. I wonder what he thinks.
We’ve both been in a bit of a rut in recent weeks, so are looking forward to our trip to London and its environs a week from tomorrow. Isabel and her daughter will stay here while we’re gone, which makes traveling so easy.
Me pregunto qué piensa.

Oh, SG’s office isn’t that bad! I’ve seen much worse. I like how the cat condo takes up its own wall. And that fan on the floor — is it to keep SG’s feet cool?
Debra:
As I look at the photo, I realize SG’s office has been worse than that. Still, thank goddess for Isabel. He picks things up once a week so she can clean. The fan is from summer and hasn’t been put away yet. He’ll have the AC on and aimed down, and then use the fan to blow some cool on his legs (because the cats don’t like the draft from above). It’s been DOWN TO 17C in the early morning (not inside, however) but SG has the heat going in his office plus the space heater. I walk in and feel like I’m going to pass out.
That’s more of a “man-cave”, really. Love the fact SG has all the elements covered; a fan for hot days and a radiator for chilly nights…
The perspective on that cinnamon bun makes it look the size of a Great Dane dog basket!
And no, camouflage print goes with nothing. Except perhaps more camouflage print. Jx
Jon:
The summer fan hasn’t been stashed yet for the winter. But what the hell. There’s so much space. The cinnamon bun was huge, but not as huge as I made it look. I am not a fan of camouflage fashion.
That’s some contrast between the 19th century bearded gent on the wall and the glowing 21st century computer screen.
Kirk:
And it’s amazing to imagine the differences in the lives. He was a pioneer from Maine. He ran lumber mills in Wisconsin and then loaded up a box car with building supplies, the family rode atop it all and they made their way to Dakota Territory.
I understand his filing system.
David:
He claims to understand it, too… until he tries to find something.
That is one well-equipped office for man and felines!
Bob:
It’s all about the cats (and the man).
Ah, good to see the enormous cat tower/s – San Geraldo has his priorities right! =^..^=
Michelle Cooper in New Zealand (I just love how that sounds):
We have three of those cat towers. They kindly share their house with us.
What are you planning to do in London? We live in Harpenden, which is 25 mins north on the train. Not been to the big city for quite a while as it is too tiring for me now. There is always so much walking!! Will you see Steve?
( He and Olga came to see me a few years ago !)
Frances:
We have a long list, including the Tower of London (which tried to take SG’s mother to in 2015 but arrived too late), several museums, Windsor Castle. Cabaret! We’re going full out tourist. Training up to Colchester to spend the day touring with great friends there. I’m hopeful we’ll be able to connect with Steve. That would be a delight.
We’d dearly love to go and see Cabaret with Jake Shears as “Emcee”, but tickets are few and far between (and so damned expensive!), so I think it’s another “miss” for us…
“Full out tourist” sounds about right! Don’t miss the “Diva” exhibition at the V&A – it’s excellent. Jx
Jon:
We had tickets to see Sunday in the Park with George with Jake Gyllenhaal. But then came Covid. They gave us a credit and it expires in December. Yay. Then SG decided he wanted to have dinner there and sit up front in one of the Kit Kat Club tables. Add another €300 to our “credit”! Yes, the Diva exhibition is on the list. We might need to add another week!
PS Not sure why I am anonymous…..It’s Frances!
PS. Not anonymous but Frances!
Yes, Mitchell, I can’t wait to see you both!
That is a serious…scratching post? What would you call that thing? Anyway, I see someone’s in it, so clearly it’s doing its job!
Steve:
We either all it the cat tree or the kitty condo (but mostly the cat tree). And we have three of them! Having one in SG’s office, one in the salon, and one on the terrace discourage all other scratching. So it’s been worth it.
Steve:
Forgot to mention how excited we are to see you.
I love camouflage and think it goes with everything! (preferably solids, though) You might not want to be my friend following that confession! Actually, I think you saw something at my blog early on that turned you off and I’m sorry for that. I would hate for assumptions to be made, especially if I can’t defend what I’ve said. I can assure you I’m not the type to ever push any of my beliefs on anyone else. If it makes you uncomfortable for me to comment here, please tell me. (I’ll make like a tree and leave!)
Kelly:
I am sending my humble apology! I am so sorry. You definitely did not offend and I’m glad you wrote today — even if you DO like camouflage. I remember adding your blog to my blog roll a few times and, for some reason, it never stuck and I don’t get reminders. And now I can’t even find the blog address. So please forgive me, send me the URL, and I promise to be a loyal follower!
You are always so kind and there’s no need for an apology. I debated whether to say anything because I knew it would come across as a plea to have you read my blog! That was not the intent! Blog reading (and especially commenting) should never be obligatory. You’re always welcome to visit, though. My posts are mainly about books, music, puzzles I’ve worked, and photos I’ve taken. They show up in Steve’s sidebar.
I’ve learned the hard way that admitting I’m a Christian online (and I’m never ashamed of that fact) can turn people off. Sadly, too many people think that ALL Christians are like the “religious right” and evangelicals who are so vocal in their beliefs. Trust me, we’re not all like that.
You’ll be happy to know I’m not wearing camouflage today. 😉
Kelly:
Although I’m not a believer, I will not judge anyone else for their beliefs — as long as they don’t use those beliefs to judge me or try and limit my freedoms… and as long as they aren’t supporting churches and organizations that would try. I’ll find you on Steve’s blog again today!
