Today has been a non-starter. I awoke at 10 from a solid 5-hour sleep (unheard of in my world), but also from awful health- and family-related anxiety dreams. I had breakfast and went back to bed until 2:15 when it was time for lunch. I’m about to get out of the house for either a good walk (but it’s really hot) or just some errands. I just checked the forecast. It’s currently 30C/86F but feels like 34C/94F. Humidity is 62%. It will probably just be errands. At least I’ll get out of the house before the sun sets. The top “meme” was one of my favorite stickers from Mad Magazine around 1967. Originally lickable stamps, the collection was reissued in 1983 as stickers.
We had farewell coffee with Maria and family Sunday morning. Mesón Salvador was setting up for lunch by the time we got there so we went next door to Granier, an excellent chain of bakery/cafés. After seeing the family every day, I’m sure a part of my problem today was the let down. They had a 6-hour drive back to Madrid and should be home by now. It’s finally time for me to get out of the house.

Ahhh, María with her gold star! And… almost cupcakes! Those Magdalena muffins look good, of course.
Hoping that getting out of the house was helpful!
Judy C:
I thought of you when I walked up to the counter. Had they had cupcakes, I would have ordered one just for you!
Love the stickers, including the one from MAD. I think I’ve told you before that I was a big fan of that magazine and read it for at least 40+ years. I credit/blame it for my frequent desire to be sarcastic.
Kelly:
When we emptied my mother’s apartment in 2016, there was a travel bag filled with Mad magazines from the ’60s. It was painful, but I recycled them. They were read to death and definitely not in mint condition (and all the stickers were gone).
I don’t normally solicit comments on my blog and I promise it will not happen again, but I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on my most recent “pondering” post.
Funny (?) how those bad moods just sneak up on us, eh?!! Humidity does the trick for me.
You are sweet Maria look great!
Jim:
My bad moods will use any excuse.
too much fun no doubt!
Ron:
María makes me smile.
Maria looks so cute with her gold star, and you with your puffy rainbow!
Debra:
And María chose the rainbow for me. She gets me!
The item that caught my eye in the photos was the blue mug of coffee. It looked good, and I do love coffee! I had been reading where Spain is in a drought.
Michael:
Cristina and I agreed it was the best coffee we had all week. (Don’t tell Mesón Salvador.) Drought conditions thankfully improved a bit before summer season was in full swing, but we’ve still got restrictions. No water in public fountains. The beach showers are all turned off. I hope we have good rain when the season comes around again (if not sooner).
Glad Maria got her stars, but I am flummoxed by the dressy pink crocs.
Bob:
I know! I, too, was surprised by the dressy pink Crocs. He was shirtless, as were his friends. And they all had recently waxed and polished.
One might even suspect they were a gang of homosexualists…
…but for the fact that no gay boy I know would be seen dead in Crocs! And shorts that don’t match the footwear? Heaven forfend. Jx
Jon:
They had kind of a straight boy demeanour. But the crocs and shorts combo were a dead giveaway.
Hold on- do men shave their legs now? That’s what I’m seeing in the red shorts/pink Crocs picture. Do I need to readjust my thinking? As a woman, I resent the fact that my legs are supposed to be free of hairs. Are men adopting this practice of their own free will?
I am so confused.
Nope. Too hot for walking. Don’t even think about it.
Maria has been a light in my days the last week or so.
Ms. Moonsigh
Ms. Moonsigh:
Oh, leg hair removal has been popular among men for a long time. Even our friends’ son does it. He had his legs waxed when he was 17 and complained about how much it hurt. I think he shaves now (7 years later). It’s a lot of maintenance.
Obviously I am way, WAY behind the times. I am not sure that men ridding their legs of hair is a thing here in North Florida.
Ms. Moonsigh:
I think you might be surprised. I would guess Tallahassee, at least, has spas that offer manscaping of all sorts.
Nothing is better than two sleepy kitties !
woof from two crazy puppers
Parsnip:
And the sleepy kitties are often crazy, too.
Oh, yes, Mad did memes long before there was an internet.
Kirk:
I had never thought about it until I decided to share this one.
Cats curled up in chairs. Makes me chuckle. 🙂
Walt the Fourth:
They often change position. I love how they make themselves fit.
I can’t believe you remember a specific set of stickers from Mad magazine, 50-plus years ago! You crack me up. (Although I still remember their “Exorcist” parody issue from 1974 because it grossed me out so much!)
I love that picture of the cats under the glass table.
Steve:
My memory is peculiar. I could recite a poem from Mad magazine from 1968. Word for word. And I remember the lyrics to insect spray TV commercials from 1969. But did I remember to take my pills this morning?
Maria is even more beautiful with her gold star. I didn’t think it was possible for an angel to become any more gorgeous. I understand the let down of seeing them go. Rebekah is still staying with me and I will be disappointed when she departs for her own place.
Love,
Janie
Pink Crocs, should be outlawed.
