Rooms to let 50 cents / Habitaciones en alquiler 50 céntimos

La versión en español está después de la versión en inglés.

We’ll head out Thursday morning for an all-day adventure in the search for a new place to live. I won’t share any details at this point because so much can still change. But, we’ve been checking out some cities within a couple of hours of us. Once we’ve figured it out, I’ll share where we started in our heads.

We plan to meet with an estate agent tomorrow (more agents if that agent can’t show us listings from other agents). We’ve so far got 10 apartments on our list and are hoping to see perhaps 4. It will be a fun train ride.

We are both excited. Although San Geraldo is more stressed than excited and I’m more excited than stressed. That’s always the case when we move. We both love to move, but I tend to thrive during the process of discovery. In addition, this has been a tremendous distraction for me. Health problems? What health problems? This is when I start singing (in my head) “King of the Road.”

Speaking of health: I had my monthly appointment with the nephrologist yesterday and my lab work improved significantly this past month. Some of my numbers are still in the category of why-are-you-still-alive, but it’s looking so much better than last month. We’re hoping the trend continues. I’ll know more in early October.

Isabel is coming for a few hours during the day tomorrow to keep the cats company. And, of course, to give them two scheduled treats so they don’t feel abandoned. She calls herself their godmother. I tried to convince her to move with us, but she doesn’t think her husband would much like that.

  1. How exciting, the possibilities are endless. And a new place for people to come take you out to lunch.

  2. Oh, my! Adventures!
So… how might this affect your medical care? Will you have to find new doctors for your condition, or will you be within a reasonable train ride from the nephrologist you’re seeing? (Sorry for bringing up a difficult part of the moving process!)
    And… and… Mesón Salvador! I know you’ll miss them 🙁

    1. Judy C:
Part of the search process for me was availability of the same kind of health care. Córdoba will not be a problem. The express train from Córdoba is 49 minutes, but then I’d have to get a taxi to the medical center (15 minutes?). A lot of expense and time for twice a month!

  3. I more like San Geraldo in that regard. I’d move more often if I could wrinkle my nose and transport all my belongings from one place to another, but of course it’s much more involved than that.

    1. Kirk:
The part I don’t enjoy so much is working with packers and movers. We’ve had some very disappointing experiences. But the rest if a party for me. The looking the planning, the unpacking, etc.

  4. Love that “adaptation” of the eulogy!

A train ride away? Hmmmm. You’ve set me thinking about places you are looking at….

    Good luck! Jx

  5. I hope you find something soon. Moving is exciting and stressful and it sounds as if you’ve shared equally! I’m wondering about your medical care, too, whether you can continue with your doctors. I expect you’ll figure that part out.

    1. Boud:
Found! More to come (on Córdoba) later today. I research medical care, too. I’ll switch doctors to make it more convenient. But, if I’m in a bind I can stick with my current one.

  6. The very thought of having to move for me right now, makes me long for an arsenic cocktail! I loathe it. Good luck and smooth sailing you two.

    1. Deedles:
Well, you did have a major move not very long ago. I’m excited about the moving… not the cleaning out and working with the movers, but the change and the new city!

    1. Debra:
Dudo is sitting here right now bitching to me because his next treat is due in 2 hours (and he’s still pissed off about the poem).

  7. No phone no pool no pets I ain’t got no cigarettes . . . I’ll sing it for the rest of the day. Rebekah will hate you. What an innocent kitty face. Isabel’s husband is so selfish. Enjoy the hunt, dear one.

    Love,
    Janie

  8. I’m a man of means by no means…
Roger Miller was a swell songwriter and singer.
Love, love, love the poem. Captures pet ownership perfectly.
Is it wrong for me to say that I am pretty darn excited about you guys finding a new home? It’s like getting to join in the fun with none of the stress, worry, or expense. You can’t write too many details about the places you look at or post too many pictures for me.

I do love that song and I’m still singing it today. (That and “On the Road Again.”) I’m glad you’re excited about our move. I can hardly contain myself. New city will be Córdoba. And we found and partment. More of the story later.

  9. I might be a combo of you and SG …. stressed about moving but really excited about it, too. But wherever you land you’ll make it your own with news faces and places and food and hideous clothing choices.
Now, that cat poem is totally Consuelo … I stood in the kitchen this morning as she meowed for food and said, “There’s food in your dish!! You are NOT starving!!!”

    1. Bob:
Dudo is sitting on the window sill, slapping at the vertical blinds and meowing at me. His next treat is due in 2 hours! Moose just arrived for back-up. They did NOT like the poem. Next stop Córdoba! We found a place. More to come.

    1. Mistress Borghese:
We really do balance each other out. It works well. When we left New Haven in 1993, Jerry’s management team held a going away dinner. We were all friends. One read a poem to me and described me as the sane one, the calm one, etc. etc. And I realized why I stayed with SG. He makes ME look calm and sane!

  10. While moving can be very stressful, it can also be exciting to explore a new area. I’m sure you’ll find a new apartment that’s lovely, has A/C, good public transportation and cat friendly!

  11. Good luck with everything. It sounds like you and SG are a good match when you describe both of your feelings. I feel nervous and excited for the two of you as well!

    1. Michael:
We usually balance each other well. And SG often makes ME appear sane and calm. I am SO excited right now. We found a place in Córdoba. More news to come soon.

  12. Ha! LOVE the poem! Brilliant!

Is this move going to be a problem for you healthcare-wise? Will you keep your current doctors and just travel back to them? (I guess it depends where you land.)

    1. Steve:
Great healthcare services in Córdoba (yes, that’s where we found an apartment yesterday). All should be fine. Worst case is I can still train down to see my current doctor short-term.
