Trees and Flowers / Arboles y Flores

La versión en español está después de la versión en inglés.

I know there are plumbago (the first two photos below of blue flowers) and jacaranda (the final three purple-flowering trees), and a rose, but I’m not quite sure about the rest. I just know it’s glorious down on the Paseo de Córdoba. I noticed we have several books on the birds of Spain and Europe, a butterfly identification book, one of insects, and one of the mammals of Europe. Time to buy another on the trees and flowers.

Dudo now spends most of his time on the terrace, when he’s not demanding a treat of course. I’m glad he’s happy on his rug on the floor. We liked the look of the rug on the chair, so we’re shopping for three new rugs for out there to add a bit of color and comfort.

I’ve just returned from the roof after hanging laundry. It’s hot up there, currently 34˚C/94.2F and is supposed to climb to 39C/102.2F. It’s usually hotter than forecast.

Elena and Tynan are driving up from Fuengirola today for a couple of days and we can hardly wait. I don’t know if we’ll go to the fair in the heat, but I really don’t want to miss my first Feria in Córdoba. Whatever these next days bring with our friends, it will be sweet (and hot).

  1. Love the flora; great color.
Here in South Carolina it’s cold and going to be rainy again today; I’m kind of enjoying the block on late Srping into Summer though I hope it doesn’t mean a longer and hotter Summer.

    1. Bob:
Yeah, I wouldn’t have minded if not a later at least a longer spring. Hope for some relief next week. More of the same here through Sunday.Humidity currently 17%.

    1. David:
Yes! Catalpas! I used to be able to identify many of these. I need to get back in practice.

    1. Sixpence Notthewiser:
Yes, summer is early. It should be less extreme beginning Monday, at least for a while.

      1. By the way, not to be too persnickety, but I think your “ceanothus” pictures are actually plumbago. I couldn’t remember the name when I posted my first comment so I didn’t mention it but it came to me later. 🙂

        1. Steve:
Please be persnickety. You’re right about the flowers. I’ll correct that. I have always called those by the wrong name.

  2. I bet Steve is right- your laundry must be dry by the time it’s all hung out. That heat and the lower humidity. Do you get breezes?
Today’s photos are just beyond beautiful. What an amazing place you have chosen to live.
    Moon Sigh

    1. Ms. Moonsigh:
We do get lots of breezes, sometimes strong, coming off the mountains. That and the low humidity helps. 17% humidity now. It’s not Florida.

  3. The flowers are beautiful! We’re supposed to hit triple digits in the next couple of days. Looks like summer is kicking spring off of the calendar early this year.

    1. Deedles:
Uf! Unlike your humidity, ours is currently 17%. Glad you have AC!

      1. Yeah, well, the powers that be usually wants us all to turn the AC off during prime flesh roasting hours. The say they’re saving energy. I think they’fe just trying to kill off as many old people as they can to break the previous year’s record. Now excuse me. I need to dust off my tin foil hat.

  4. That heat is really something to reckon with. I hope you get to the feria without melting! Are you thinking of a shore stay in August, to catch some cool? Boud

    1. Boud:
I’m going to feria with Tynan and Elena this evening. I do expect to melt. No plants to go to the shore this summer. We’ve got an expensive trip in September and another in January and we are, sadly, not independently wealthy, although sometimes we like to believe we are.

  5. Glorious pictures to brighten my cloudy day!!! And don’t buy a flower and tree book….we have out Jon….who is downright an walking floral and fauna encyclopedia!!!!!

I love all the purple flowers. I seem to be drawn to purple and blue this summer for some reason.

    1. Mistress Borghese:
Poor Jon has to do a lot of sleuthing for me. I should be able to provide more information for everyone. I LOVE jacaranda. Common in southern California. They lined our streets in Santa Barbara and Irvine. And, I’m with you, purple and blue are doing it for me this year.

  6. Glorious photos!! The internet is great, but I still like having real books to assist in identifying things.

    Enjoy your time with friends!

  7. Gosh – Spain is blooming at this time of year, isn’t it?

I took a look at the “mystery” plant photos, and I have come up with: Plumbago x2, Cassia/Senna x3, Indian Bean Tree (Catalpa) x4, Ailanthus (“Tree of Heaven”). I stopped at pic #11, as that might also be Ailanthus but I am not sure, and the others you know… Jx

    1. Jon:
You sure went to a lot of work! I’ll try to better. I’ll check out what you found. Thanks!

  8. Wow, it is sure hot there. Here in Virginia it has been unseasonably cool. We even had to turn the heat on yesterday afternoon! I don’t think I have ever done that when it is almost June!

    1. Michael:
Well, we’re grateful for good AC and the new terrace windows are phenomenal at keeping it cool there.

    1. Kirk:
I’ll eventually find all the names. Jon did some sleuthing and has some suggestions.
