Walk right in (sit right down) / Entra y siéntate

La versión en español está después de la versión en inglés.

We’re having a bit of a cold snap today. The temperature is only supposed to reach 37˚C/98.6˚F. After 42C+/107.6F, it’s almost refreshing.

Yesterday I went for a brief walk (maybe 40 minutes). It wasn’t just a fun walk. I also ran errands, a stop at the pharmacy and then on to El Corte Inglés where I picked up some sugar-free protein bars. While there I phoned San Geraldo but of course got no answer. So I made an executive decision and picked up barbecued beef empanadas for lunch. I texted him via WhatsApp. He didn’t see that either. Still, he was delighted when I got home. In our world, this means I cooked lunch.

I decided to grab some photos of our lobby and hallway to share with you. Today is up in the air. A workout and stretching are seriously required. Well, so is some drawing. Body and mind (and soul).

Cuerpo y mente (y alma).

• The walls are accented with drawings from around our neighborhood and the city.
• Las paredes están acentuadas con dibujos de nuestro barrio y de la ciudad.
• I’ve seen a number of people admiring themselves in the full-length mirrors, a good friend of ours included.
• He visto a muchas personas admirándose en el espejo de cuerpo entero, incluido un buen amigo nuestro.
• Only three apartments on our floor. Ours is at the far end.
• Solo hay tres apartamentos en nuestra planta. El nuestro está al fondo.
• I do like the ’80s-vintage staircase.
• Me gusta la escalera estilo años 80.

  1. That’s a very grand entrance lobby!

I’ve never been a fan of that kind of bannister – it’s a bit too “1960s municipal library” for me.

    Jx

PS now I have a hankering for empanadas – haven’t had one in ages!

    1. Jon,
Oh how I love empanadas. We need to check out the specialty shops in the neighborhood.

  2. Oh, wow… you must have had great feelings of anticipation to see that apartment, once you walked in and saw that the building was like this. So nice!

  3. Well done on cooking lunch! And I think drawing first, exercise after.
I’m not a fan of all that marble etc. Maybe it’s welcome in sizzling hot weather though.

  4. Nice lobby! If something from the 1980s if vintage, I am very-very-very old (and you are older than I am.) I started in the building business in 1980.

    1. Jennifer,
The lobby is pleasant (and always cool). The exterior is dreary. I don’t want to share that because it gives just a bit too much away.

    1. Debra,
It’s not bad. The sensation dies when you squeeze into one of two of the tiniest elevators I’ve ever seen.

  5. At first I thought you’d taken B&W photos of the lobby until I noticed the blue in the tiles and the green plants. Very chi-chi!
And now I want an empanada; I have a cookbook with an empanada recipe and I am going to give it a shot!

  6. Love the lobby! A touch of a more vibrant color would be nice, but that’s just my tasteless opinion.
We’re only hitting 88F today and then it’s back to the 90s and triple digits. I think my a/c has developed a wheeze.

    1. Deedles,
I like the black and white with the addition of the blue and white ceramic tile, but a splash of color could be nice. This is not uncommon. We had coffee outside today in high 80s. Heading back up to 100s again. High 80s has become springlike for us.

  7. Okay. You had me going down the “Walk Right In” rabbit hole. First I watched the Dr. Hook version you posted which I do not think I’d ever heard. Than I watched the Rooftop Singer’s version (boy, were they white!) which is the one I think I’m familiar with. And THEN I listened to Gus Cannon’s version. He wrote the song way back in the 1920’s. The way the different eras and artists interpreted the song is fascinating. Gotta say I like Gus’s version. Thanks for the inspiration to do that.
I like your lobby and hallways. Although lacking in color, the different patterns of the similar palette keep it interesting.
Ms. Moon, trying to act like she knows something which she does not

    1. Ms. Moon,
I checked them all out, but have always liked the style of Dr. Hook (for this song). Do not play me Sylvia’s Mother. I was torn between Dr. Hook and Gus Cannon. And, yeah, the Rooftop Singers were way too clean cut for me.

  8. Hard as it was to get past the pic at top, I eventually did. V. impressive! Spectacularly so!

  9. That’s a swanky looking building! I guess the mirrors come in handy for people who are stepping out for the night, or even heading to work, and want last-minute confirmation that they didn’t forget some crucial element of their wardrobe. (Like their pants.)

    1. Steve,
Our handsome friend Connor especially likes to check himself out. And I’ve seen some dolled up 20-somethings spending time perfecting the look.

  10. You set my ear worm for the day from the moment I read your title. I never knew Dr. Hook did a version. Call me a redneck, but I was always a big fan of them.

    1. Kelly:
I enjoyed some of Dr. Hook’s stuff. Sylvia’s Mother, however, made me absolutely nuts.

  11. That lobby looks very posh — I like its Art Deco/Moorish feel! Is it standard Spanish design to have doorknobs on the middle of the doors?

Dudo & Moose don’t have to let their hair hang down to relax cuz it’s already on everything, LOL!

    1. Tundra Bunny,
Yes, that’s standard style for front door. I thought it would make it difficult to open, but the balance works well. That knob is simply to push or pull. The key turns the lock.
