The cats’ house / La casa de los gatos

La versión en español está después de la versión en inglés.

I started the day with a trip to the private medical center to have lab work done. That might be as much excitement as I can manage. I have photos to edit for San Geraldo and linens to hang in the house because rain is a possibility today and very likely tomorrow.

I leave for New York Sunday (and hope to get there despite the government shutdown which just keeps getting worse). Usually, I’ve got my packing list done by now, I know what I need to pick up before I leave, and I feel in control. Not this time. The packing list is started. That’s about it. Oh, I did find the $5 I have in American cash from my last trip and the five polo shirts I bought for The Kid Brother. It’s not as if I’m heading into the wilderness.

I have a doctor appointment Thursday to renew prescriptions. Again. Because he doesn’t renew them all at once and get them on the same cycle. I will try again. As it stands, this will be the third time I’ll have gone back to renew things in the past three weeks. Never mind. I could do it over the phone but I also need an official printout from the medical center of my entire list of prescriptions.

At this point, my carry on bag will look like I’m a pharmaceutical rep, or worse, an unlawful pharmaceutical rep. Other than my prescriptions, I can pick up anything I might have forgotten once I’m in New York. Still, it would be nice to feel a bit more in control.

I wish San Geraldo were traveling with me. Then again, for both our sakes, I do not. He wouldn’t be happy and then I wouldn’t be happy. And I’m already not happy enough about a trip to the U.S. of A.

Today’s photos begin with Dudo, above, who dreams of being a reindeer in flight. The rest are of a mellow Moose.

No importa.

Él no estaría contento y yo tampoco. Y ya no estoy lo suficientemente contento con un viaje a Estados Unidos.

Las fotos de hoy empiezan con Dudo, arriba, que sueña con ser un reno en vuelo. El resto son de un apacible alce.

• Moose dreams of being more flexible.

    1. David,
You change your undies when you travel for 8 days? Something else to add to the list!

  1. Twisted kitties looking poeaceful.

I do think your trip should go smoothly as long as you don’t wear the FUDT t-shirts!

  2. Practicing for Santa?
I wish you felt better about the upcoming trip. But Chuck will be so happy to see you and get into the standup routines. Will you be seeing other relatives and friends? The weather’s not too cold yet, but bring a coat. Boud.

    1. Bous,
Yes, it will be good to spend time with Chuck. I have some other things to attend to while I’m there. Seriously late in getting in touch with anyone. Friends beat me to the punch and wrote as a result of the blog and we’ve made a date.

  3. Don’t know how he can get more flexible than that!

I don’t blame you for your misgivings about traveling here. You are likely to be pulled aside and interrogated for hours just because they can.

    1. Debra,
Dudo leaps like Nureyev. Moose on the other hand gives it a lot of thought before he jumps up on the bed.

  4. The opening picture of Dudo comforted me today. And my boy Moose really cracked me up as he usually does with his poses! Hoe is that even comfortable??? LMAO!!! And I know all about the medical crap. I have an appointment later with a cosmetics dentist. Two teeth started giving me issues and I’m going to see my options. I’m a tad nervous.

  5. Contortionists both! If I’d been as twisty as they in my ‘active’ years (all very likely past, alas) oh, what extra ‘fun’ would have been possible!

  6. Getting ready for a trip is the most stressful thing for me. I made it ten thousand times more anxiety-producing than it needs to be but I doubt seriously I’m going to change now.
    Your cats are such beauties.

  7. Kitty pictures are a welcome relief from the world. I still say if Congress wasn’t getting paid they’d have compromised and settled this shit long ago.

  8. How do cats find any of those poses comfortable? It’s a mystery.

Good luck on your trip! As Bob says, just pack undies and a couple of changes of shirt – the rest is just an excuse to go shopping! Jx

  9. Dudo & Moose pix, YAY! Moose is such a hoot: he must’ve been an acrobat or contortionist in a previous life, LOL.

I’m sure your trip to NYC will go smoothly, Scoot. At least you won’t get fingerprinted and photographed for biometric identity data systems like us Canadians and all non-American tourists!

    1. Tundra Bunny,
Dudo is even more contorted than Moose. However, he usually flips when he sees the camera. It’s really annoying. I’ve already been fingerprinted and scanned.

  10. Air traffic controllers aren’t getting paid so be prepared to parachute out of the plane and guide it on to the runway yourself. Or parachute out and let the plane land where it may. It’s the senators and representatives who shouldn’t be paid. ExpressScripts drives me crazy. They send a prescription. Two days later they send another. Three days later they send another. All the packaging! Getting them to send everything together is impossible.

    Love,
    Janie
