The terrace windows are in. The crew was to arrive Thursday around 8:30. They arrived at 9:10. No big deal. They hauled in their tools and at 9:30, before the truck arrived, they went for breakfast. They were back at 10:15 and got to work. We’re so glad SG scraped and painted the railing because it would have been a nightmare to do after the fact. The guys went for lunch around 2:15 and were back at 3:15. They worked until 4:30 and said the frames had to set overnight before they installed the windows. They’d be back at 7:30 if that was alright with me. I had been home and on call for them all day and was tired but of course I agreed. Then SG said he would get up for them Friday morning thinking they probably wouldn’t have any questions which his Spanish wouldn’t be complete enough to answer. He was right.

They arrived on time Friday and were finished with their work by 12:30. They did an excellent job, and the retractable screen is sleek and easy to operate. The windows are triple glazed and, when closed, we cannot hear one bit of traffic noise. We love the look of the old railing frame through the bottom glass.

The building requirement is for bronze-colored framing. We could have gone with bronze outside and white inside, but thought the bronze would look better with the old bronze railing showing through. Time for some color, a plant (or five) and some cats. The door is now open all the time and neither cat has ventured out. The jerks. They’ll get there.

My visit with the nephrologist was fine. My lab results improved in some areas but stayed about the same in terms of the protein my kidneys are flushing out. He’s not concerned. I’m disappointed. The dizzies appear to be from the meds, so I’m adjusting my approach to life. Walking as often as I can. Workouts at home where I can always hold onto things and sit if needed.

I complained about my immediate loss of muscle last year and suddenly aged skin and he said that’s part of the illness. So, I’ll do what I can and will have to get over my vanity. Also, the medication makes me highly susceptible to skin cancer, so I’ll start dressing Mediterranean cool for summer in linen to cover my arms and legs. No more (un)healthy tans for me, I guess. Yesterday afternoon while I roamed, I wore one of my lightweight caps. I didn’t look ill, just cool (I think). Honestly, I don’t look ill, except to myself (I think).

No parecía enfermo, solo genial (creo). Sinceramente, no parezco enfermo, excepto para mí mismo (creo).

• The color.
• El color.
• Dudo is just fine on his ratty old cat tree in SG’s office. That’s another project.

  1. Wow, Mitchell, the terrace looks beautiful! What a wonderful place for you all. Hope your dizzies lessen. Enjoy the weekend!❤️

    1. Robin:
The dizzies haven’t been as bad as they were (touch wood). Thanks.

  2. A few plants, a few cats- it will be heaven. Great job!
You do not look sick. I know.
    Ms. M.

    1. Ms. M:
We’d like to get new furniture for out there, too. And we need things to change the sound. It echoes! As for how I look, I’ll have to take your word for it.

  3. So typical of cats, to pretend their terrace isn’t there. Then they’ll suddenly claim it was all their idea. One of the best things we ever did in our first house was to glass in the porch. It added a whole new room, and we spent a lot of time there. You’ll love it. Especially the noise blocking part. Boud

    1. Boud:
This definitely has extended the living room. We enclosed our large terrace in Fuengirola with a glass curtain. It completely transformed the small apartment. This apartment is half again as large and the terrace is small, but it still makes such a difference. I wonder what the cats are doing during the night when we’re not watching.

  4. You look wonderful. The Terrace looks great, and the cats will want to go out there when you close the doors and tell them they can’t.

    1. David:
You’re so right about the cats and a closed door. But with the triple glazing, the door may never be closed. Maybe that’s the problem!

  5. The terrace looks great! I would spend so much time out there! You’ll adjust to the dizzies. My daughter has learned to deal with her mechanical vertigo which is always waiting to catch her off guard.

    1. Kirk:
The building has a standard look. I’m sure there must be low end version of it, but I’m glad we did it right.

  6. The windows look great! It really is impressive how they so perfectly frame the railing. I’m sure you look great too, despite your doubts. 🙂

I love it when animals sleep with their feet all piled up in front of them.

    1. Steve:
Yes, the design frames the old railing beautifully. We thought it was a shame to keep the useless railing, but we now love the look.

  7. Your newly glassed-in terrace looks so inviting now! I can see you & SG enjoying many a leisurely breakfast out there… coffee and croissants? I’m sure Moose & Dudo will enjoy the view too — eventually, LOL!

    1. Tundra Bunny:
I don’t think I’ve had a croissant yet in Spain! Waiting to see Moose and Dudo enjoying themselves out there. A rug would probably help.

  8. Wow! that looks like a million dollar terrace and the view, what a comfortable apartment you have. The cats are living their best life of luxury, you are SG are the perfect attendants.

    1. Walt the Fourth:
We knew we’d like but it even surprises us. Time to furnish and decorate… when the budget allows.

    1. Margaret Butterworth:
That sea view was so wonderful, but this is nice, too, and so different.

  9. The terrace looks great…another room to enjoy!

PS We have a young couple just moved in next door and Marina is from Malaga! One of the reasons they moved here from London ( Greenwich) is that Luton airport 5 miles away has flights to Malaga!
    Frances

    1. Frances:
Yes, it’s now another room (that needs furnishing and decoration)! We have friends who regularly fly out of Luton. Very convenient for them, too.

  10. It looks great!!!!! They will venture out soon enough. Your place is so much more swanky with you guys there compared to the before pictures. And I say that will all honesty. It’s more warm and cozy.

    1. Mistress Borghese,
Thanks. Lots more still to happen, like new furniture for the terrace. We’re feeling like we’re home.
