But I’m here / Pero estoy aquí

La versión en español está después de la versión en inglés.

Connor and Maureen love cats, so they’re always happy to see Dudo and Moose. I wish I could say the same for Dudo and Moose. The stuck-up little shits. Dudo came to greet us Wednesday but he hesitated when he saw “others.” Still, he remained to check things out. When Connor knelt to say “hi” that was enough for him. He flipped his tail and walked away. But then Connor gave them their treats. Moose, although he devoured his treat, was still unimpressed. Dudo, however, did make a quick pass through the living room, as if to say “You may stay.” If they’re both on the cat tree in San Geraldo’s office when someone visits, they at least now will let themselves be petted.

I’ve had an assortment of throws and towels covering our new living room furniture to protect it from cats’ claws. It always looks awful in there. So, I ordered new throws to look less offensive since, unless we have visitors, that’s what we have to see all the time. Of course I couldn’t find anything to match the sofas (which are greige—a cross between gray and beige) so I got two large light gray throws and I found a throw for the chair (that matches it perfectly). The cats are delighted and were immediately settled in. I’ll share a better photo of it all. I’m still looking for new throw pillows.

I’ve shared a couple of photos of my new glasses. I love them. I almost didn’t share the one of me wearing them. My illness has caused me to age considerably in the past year. I hope I can reverse some of it, but I’m trying to get used to seeing myself like this. Please no pep talk. And, yes, I know the photo is not bad at all. I’m just saying. Anyway, I got through all of last year. And I’m here.

Me encantan.

So many brilliant performers have done this song, but she still brings tears to my eyes.
Muchos intérpretes brillantes han interpretado esta canción, pero ella todavía me hace llorar.

  1. Such a cutie and the cats too. I don’t know what happened, maybe it is all of the time in the pool this summer, but my hair is suddenly more than flecked with silver. This is what we get for not dying young. A good life. Nice frames.

    1. Debra:
The cats are in heaven with the new throws. This is what I expected them to do with the chairs on the terrace. Thanks regarding the specs!

  2. Tuxedo was our friendly cat and whenever we had people over, he’d come out to greet them and sit with them, and explain that, while they were welcome, this was HIS house.
Today we had a repairman out and Consuelo and Rosita both took their spots under a bed somewhere until long after he was gone.
Love the new glasses; I need a new pair myself.

    1. Bob:
We had a cat in the States named Dobie. He was just like Tuxedo in personality. Everyone was his friend.

  3. Hi Mitchell, with our last cat Miss Kitty we could never be sure what she would do when visitors came. One of my good friends who has a rather loud voice would just get glared at when she came over. Another good friend who has a more soft soothing voice Miss Kitty adored. Other visitors often just got scathing glances in passing.
I love your new glasses, mine are very similar. The kitties look gorgeous on your new throws.❤️

    1. Your referring to D & M as “stubborn little shits” was SOOOOO cruel that now I wanna take them up in my arms and reassure them, my nose to theirs, that you didn’t really mean it – and, probably get a lacerated-clawed face in the process. 😉

Nice specs, btw – though I always prefer the look of contact lenses myself.

      1. Raybeard:
I cracked up imagining you picking these boys in your arms. You’d be yelling, “You little shits!” My vision has never needed enough correction to warrant contact lenses. I developed 40-year-old eyes at the right time.

        1. No, I think they’d recognise me as a true friend who’d never cause them grief, pain or threaten them. At least that’s how I’d LIKE to see them, the lovely cuddlesome two-some. 🙂

    2. Robin:
Moose does sometimes surprise us. He fell in love with our friend Nick and would sit on the cat tree in the living room, level with Nick’s chair so Nick could pet him non-stop.

      1. I’ve run the gamut.
        A to Z.
        Three cheers and dammit,
        C’est la vie.
I got through all of last year
        And I’m here.
Lord knows, at least I was there,
        And I’m here!
        Look who’s here!
        I’m still here!

        Jx

  4. That performance was phenomenal. Thank you. After doing a little digging, I now know that the song doesn’t begin to cover her amazing life. Can I say, “What a dame”?
I’m not going to give you a pep talk. I understand. I’m just going to ask you one question- Who was it being cruised just last week? Eh?
    Ms. Moon

    1. Ms. Moon:
Elaine Stritch was an incredible performer and didn’t get there easily. LOL. The cruising was SO last week!

    1. Mistress Borghese:
It was comical to see Dudo immediately turn tail and walk away. Connor got over it quickly.

    1. David:
There are so many great performances, but for me no one beats Elaine Stritch. And oh how I love this song!

  5. I like your glasses! And if it’s any consolation our dogs can be real assholes sometimes, too. And we won’t even talk about Marco!! lol

I won’t give you a pep talk, but I will say you look handsome.

    Jennifer

    1. Jennifer:
Oh, Marco. Our cats don’t hold a candle, I’m sure. We had a yellow-naped Amazon parrot. We were told they have chronic PMS.

  6. I’m not seeing the aging, Mitchell, but that’s just me. You look mah-velous. (Sorry if that’s a pep-talk!) I like your glasses too. I need to get my eyes checked and do some spectacle replacement as well.

Cats are just so damn imperious.

    1. Steve:
It’s not just the face, but never mind. You say imperious; I say little shits. Tomato tomato.

  7. I really like your new glasses! I just picked up my new ones today, but sorry… you don’t get to see me in mine. 😏

Based on their precious photos, I don’t see how Dudo and Moose can be called “little shits”. But then I don’t live with them. 😉

    1. Kelly:
I’ll share audio of Moose yowling at 3 in the morning! Also, it’s “fun” to watch them watch us clean up their messes on the carpet and immediately follow behind and make a new one.

    1. Tundra Bunny:
They have such different personalities… except for the stubborn streak.

  8. You look stylish and handsome in your specs!
We have a clock just like that, though it is not on show now……no idea where it is!! Does yours chime ?
    Frances

    1. Frank:
The clock has stopped working years ago. We had it repaired in 1998 in San Francisco by an artisan. He had create new parts to match the wear of the old parts. He said it wouldn’t last long and it didn’t. So we had the works replace about 10 years ago. The expert managed to find contemporary works with the same sound.

  9. I used to have a kitty, CKDuncan, born in a field, who’s life work was being emcee at my house. He’d run to the door, escort visitors in, invite them to sit, and generally take over my hosting work. The other cat, Marigold the Burmese, dumped in the street, was more I’m Burmese, wth are you?

  10. I know if I want a cat to like me, when I enter its territory I should ignore it and it will comes to me in time.

I watch this Youtube clip regularly, whenever I need cheering up.
