Helping the economy / Ayudando a la economía

I was about to report that there’s been no more fighting for dominance on the cats’ new McMansion. But there just was a little squabble and Dudo won, again. Ah well, they both have plenty of other places to go and they’ve both been getting plenty of their own time throughout the day and night.

We had a number of things delivered this week in addition to the cat’s McMansion. San Geraldo ordered a pair of casual shoes. He can’t find his size 50s/15s, wide, in any shop. His neuropathy makes it even more difficult. These looked comfortable although not very stylish. He thought he could at minimum wear them around the house instead of his slippy slippers. We both found the shoes even uglier in person, but when he slipped his foot into one, it didn’t look half bad. Only problem now is the shoes are too big.

When we moved in, I bought us both 10X magnifying mirrors to attach to our bathroom mirrors. Yes, bad idea; they were much too powerful. So we each ordered a new mirror. SG got a 3X mirror and I ordered a 7X. I should have gone with 5X which is what I’ve had in the past. Not only is my new mirror still too strong, I didn’t notice the size. It fits in the palm of my hand. Oh well, it works.

A few months ago, I put the flip-top aluminum trash bin from my bathroom on the terrace to be used for the poop bags we collect from the litter box throughout the day. They get taken down with the trash every night. We can only take trash down between 7 and 10 p.m. Don’t ask me why. Anyway, I had been using a plastic laundry basket in my bathroom all this time. So I bought a new flip top bin for the terrace. I found one in white with a bamboo lid. I ordered a 5-liter bin, which I thought was a size up from what I already had. It’s not. So, all told, it wasn’t the most successful shopping spree.

I saw The Kid Brother on WhatsApp last night. He was in a great mood, as he’s been for the last several weeks. He’s also pleased because I told him I’d have a care package delivered from Wegmann’s. When I asked if he wanted anything special, he said, “Nah. You always do good.” High praise.

• I was surprised to find Moose there as I knelt for the photo.
• Me sorprendió encontrar a Moose allí cuando me arrodillé para la foto.

  1. That shoe looks like my Velcro adjustable shoes, for when feet won’t go into other shoes. They look better than you’d think. Fairly comfortable once you’ve adjusted endlessly. They were what I wore for early outdoor expeditions after surgery. They’re not waterproof which I’d hoped, but oh well. I don’t think that’s a concern for SG right now though.

Your brother has full confidence in your choices! Good track record.

    1. Boud:
I wish I had those a year ago when I swelled up like a balloon. We were both surprised at how good it looked on his foot, even if too big. His shoes are big enough to double as swimming pools.

  2. Ahhhhhh! I missed yesterday’s post about the fabulous new condo… I loved the videos!
So glad you had a great chat with Chuck 🙂

  3. Good lord… the last thing I want is to see myself at 10x magnification!
Wearing the right shoes is vitally important at our age.

      1. Hahahahahaha, Mitchell, I practically lived in those damn things when I was young and foolish. I wrote a poem about them not too long ago in Poetry Club. I’ll look at it again and polish it up a bit and post it on my blog.

        1. Debra:
I did, too. At $1.99 (or maybe it was 99 cents) how could you go wrong? I haven’t had a pair since the 70s when I stepped in a pile of dog crap and it covered my toes! I was with a friend who thought I led a charmed life and was always saying I must have stepped in shit. He couldn’t stop laughing and said I had just proved it.

  4. I’ve always thought that the people who work in the factories where Glen’s shoes are made must think they’re a joke. They are, however, not. Nor are SG’s.
Good for you on choosing the right things for your brother even if you can’t always choose the right things for yourself. The last thing in the world I’d like to see is my face magnified by 10. The second would be 7X.
    Ms. Moon

    1. Ms. Moon:
Where does Glen get his shoes? The only shoes SG has purchased in a shop in recent years were at HOKA in Bergen, Norway. And where does Owen get his shoes? 17, right? The one good thing about 10x magnification is that it can only display a very small portion of the face at any time. And, yes, it’s depressing!

      1. He gets all his shoes online. They do sell giant men size shoes sometimes in sporting goods stores but as you can imagine, they are all the sort of shoes one might wear on a basketball court. Hank recently found Owen a pair of size 17 Converse at a flea market. It ain’t easy being huge.

        1. Ms. Moon,
I was thinking about poor Owen. But at least when you’re younger the perfect fit is not a major deal. Like I said, I used to wear water buffalo sandals.

  5. Yeah I can’t say I blame San Geraldo. They are pretty ugly. Not to mention they’re so big, if I drink my gin and tonic out of that I’d probably be loaded. And wait just a minute the kid brother complimented you and said you did good, without giving you a hard time or razzing you? My, wonders never do cease.

    1. Mistress Borghese:
KB still surprises me. The shoes do seriously look pretty good when worn… except for the size. I prefer to drink champagne out of SG’s dainty shoes.

  6. “Nah…you always do good” …high praise indeed!

You’re such a great brother to Chuck. We should all be so lucky as to have a brother like you. I’m serious. xx

    Jennifer

    1. Jennifer:
Thanks. I try my best. It hasn’t always been easy, as you know. And I wish I could have always been perfect for him, but I am proud of our relationship.

    1. Debra:
SG does still find some cool shoes, but he’s definitely less concerned about style.

    1. Kirk:
Are you not visually challenged enough to have a magnifying mirror suctioned to your bathroom mirror?

  7. Perhaps if the shoes don’t fit, maybe Old Mother Hubbard could use a second home???
I rarely buy things online because they are almost never what I thought.
Dudp punim, Moose’s hideout and the Kid Brother got me smiling.

    1. Bob:
We shop a lot online and sometimes it’s a bust. I would never want to order shoes online since the fit is so different from one pair to another. But SG has no choice. Sometimes he’s successful.

    1. Michael:
Thanks so much. It was expected, but I love him and he loves me. And that makes it so much easier.
