Creepy Santa and the handlebar mustache / Papá Noel espeluznante y el bigote de manillar

La versión en español está después de la versión en inglés.

I’m giving us a break today from New York and historic information. But I still have much more to share. It’s been a slow Saturday here. I went back to bed at 11 and slept until 12:30. It’s nearly 4 and we just finished lunch. Time for some grooming and a shower, then some errands, and then some music.

Tonight we’re meeting Shannon and Stacy at the Cathedral (within the mosque) to listen to a choral concert. It will be a nice change and, since I assume it will all be in Latin, I’ll have no idea what they’re singing, which is fine by me. The acoustics should be great.

I’ve been out walking and, of course, have plenty of new photos. The city is decorating for Christmas. The tree (of aluminum and lights) is up in our plaza but not yet lit. And shops are advertising their Black Friday sales. That drives me crazy, especially when they start calling it Black Friday Month, and then it lasts more than a month.

Today’s images are retail shots from around town. One nearby men’s clothing store (definitely not my style) is promoting Black Friday (whatever the hell it is here) with mannequins with handlebar mustaches. I don’t know why.

The 3rd and 4th photos below are from another shop and, I thought, not very artful. Then we’re back on Plaza de las Tendillas with Santa Claus’s wayward brother.

Why the extra shirt tied below the asscrack? (I was going to say ‘tied around the waist’ but it’s not.)

¿Por qué la camisa extra atada debajo de la grieta del trasero? (Iba a decir “atado alrededor de la cintura” pero no es así.)

Who put THIS outfit together?!?

¿¡Quién armó ESTE atuendo?!?

  1. Some of the clothes are quite nice (notice I say SOME); the moustaches do nothing for me. I won’t say what I think Devil Santa looks like, but I certainly would not want to sit in his lap!

    1. WickedHamaster:
Individual articles of clothing were fine; but oh those combinations. That Santa is completely creepy.

  2. Oooh, a choral concert at the cathedral/mosque! That sounds fabulous. It’s ridiculous how overhyped Black Friday has become, especially in Europe where there is no Thanksgiving. (Which is perhaps why Black Friday here is so flexible in terms of timing!)

    1. Steve:
Well, we didn’t go. Ah well! Black Friday drives me crazy here. I had no part of it in the States but at least I understood what it was.

  3. Steve’s right. The most Black Friday I’ve seen here is a week. Which I think is stretching it.
Are there any, uh, tasteful menswear shops in Cordoba? The mustaches are hilarious. Also, the shirt tied beneath the ass. WTF? Is any of this supposed to represent an artistic slant on the displays? Not working for me.
That Santa really needs some attitude adjustment.
HOWEVER, I would love to have a cow on wheels. I love her.

    1. Ms. Moon:
There are many tasteful menswear shops here. They’re just no fun to take pictures of! Ale-Hop is a Spanish retail chain. Really fun shops. They all have a cow or two on wheels (except maybe the one in our train station).

  4. The moustachioed mannequins look very Spanish, but they’ve missed the Black Friday boat completely. However, the ALE-HOP cow is looking very fetching in her Santa hat!

Bad Santa looks like Krampus in disguise… way too creepy for little children.

    1. Tundra Bunny:
I don’t know any Spaniards with handlebar mustaches. That Santa would give me nightmares.

  5. Santa looks cranky and/or evil. I look forward to hearing about the concert! Take a photo of the program!

    1. Kelly:
Well… we didn’t get ot the concert, but we did watch about an hour of it live online.

  6. That’s a hell of an ugly Santa!

It’s possible those mannequins are to do with “Movember” – the awareness month all about men’s health, that originated in Australia but is certainly “a thing” here in the UK – rather than just about “Black Friday”. Speaking of which, I agree with Steve. “Black Friday” is an American marketing campaign that has, despite its links with Thanksgiving over there, been adopted in the UK and elsewhere for no other reason than to sell more crap that hasn’t sold through the rest of the year because it was greedily over-priced. And certainly should never stretch over a month, let alone a week. Sigh.

And I agree, those two outfits look ugly even on the mannequins. Lord knows who would want to dress like that… Jx

    1. Jon:
You might have spotted part of a Movember sign in the window. I had no idea about the mustache tradition! Thanks.

  7. Why Santa be so angry?????

And your right, whatever stylist put those outfits together….whew. If I did that and was still at Bloomingdales, I’d been fired. But I love the touch of whimsy with the handle bars on the window mannequins.

    Enjoy your concert tonight toots!

  8. Those handlebar mustaches look ridiculous. And that last clothing photo? Is that supposed to be for a man or a woman? Not that it matters, it’s still out there.

If that Santa showed up at my door I’d slamming it and locking it.

      1. ellen abbott:
And we don’t have Thanksgiving, so we can simply roll right into Christmas. No Macy’s parade to ring in Christmas.

  9. The mustaches are silly looking. The AleHop cow is chained in place, either they are trying to keep her from getting away, or they are a little kinky.

  10. I think Santa doesn’t like his job. Those are some weird clothes out there. Except the cow is well dressed. Boud

  11. That Santa isn’t going to say Ho Ho Ho. He looks more likely to say get close to me and I’ll kill you.

    Love,
    Janie

    1. Janiejunebug,
There’s another one in the neighborhood that doesn’t look quite so sinister.

  12. I suggest that the handlebar moustache is for MOVEMBER Men’s health ? As for the cow with the little lutin, that reminds me of what we do here in Charlottetown at the airport to advertise the ice cream company COWS.

    1. larrymuffin:
Yes, I didn’t know about the moustaches for Movember. I love the Ale-Hop cows. Would love to own one.
