Standard time and other confusion / Hora estándar y otras confusiones

Can someone please explain Daylight Saving Time to the cats? 7:00 in the morning is not the time for your 8:00 treats which you weren’t even supposed to have until 9 anyway!

Although we’ve already switched from Daylight Saving Time, The Kid Brother has not. I have to remember to call him an hour earlier from here Tuesday night.

Instead of heading out for a walk as I said I was doing at the end of yesterday’s blog, I went back to bed. Another slow day. I did have a great walk this morning. I’m a bit more tired than usual, but I’m still standing (well, sitting). Maybe even the gym this afternoon, but I’m not making any promises.

Rather than putting his shirts away for more than a year now, San Geraldo has been stacking them in a corner of his office with the intention of sorting through all the drawers and getting rid of what he doesn’t want and organizing what he does. The stack had grown to over 4 feet tall and had sent off a volunteer stack or two. Well, SG finally yesterday decided to attack the stack. At one point the entire living room and dining room were filled with piles of his clothes. He now has some drawers done and the rest of the clothes are sorted and stacked on the dining room table and chairs. Dudo thinks the T-shirts make a great bed.

Steve, of the blog Shadows and Light, recently wrote about the difference in the color of the flowers in his garden as the seasons change. I noticed the same thing with our desert rose. The flowers on the second plant had been a vivid pink verging on red. The current flowers at this late time in its cycle are a much softer pink.

The first two of today’s photos are from this morning after I rolled out of bed. The third photo is from my walk. There’s a chance of rain today and a bigger chance tomorrow. Or should I say fat chance?

  1. Those are some beautiful photos you’ve taken, Scoot. We have the time change coming up here. It frustrates and confuses us, too, especially those of us who wait for someone to serve us our meals. She can be slow–and annoying–as it is.

    Love,
    Janie

Even with not working anymore, the time change is unsettling. And then, of course, there’s Moose and his 6:00 alarm this morning.

  2. Holy cow, those are some incredible photos.
I’m hoping you got out for a walk, and enjoyed it.
I understand the stack. We have a stack. Or two. Not mine. 🙂

Isabel would just roll her eyes every week. I’m sure she’s been dying to organize it all for SG. I did have a good walk. Was a bit worn out in the afternoon, but got things done around here… and napped.

  3. I hate this “winter time” 😡 No one gets up an hour earlier for the morning light here were we lives.
Prefere summertime with one hour longer daylight

    1. Anon:
I don’t understand why we’re still using Daily Saving Time, nor why Spain is still not in its correct time zone.

  4. This time of year always makes me maudlin. Like “Anonymous”, I need more daylight! Time to get to Holland & Barrett health foods and get some Vitamin D, methinks… Jx

    1. Jon:
When we lived in Rural Connecticut and worked at Yale, we used go to work in the dark each morning and go home in the dark every afternoon. It made us miserable.

  5. Oh I hear ya. We’ll have the same thing at my house when the time changes this weekend. I should say hubby will have the same thing as he’s the breakfast guy for our darling cat. He also drapes all his shirts on the banister upstairs. The banister’s spindles have started to fall out due to the weight of those shirts…..yea. At least that 4 foot pile moved a bit huh?

The rule in our house is that SG can leave his things wherever he wants in his office. The rest of the hoiuse is off limits. Except for these times when he needs to spread out to get organized, he’s very good at following the rule. His office is an obstacle course.

The sky changes so quickly. I’m glad I sometimes catch those views so I can enjoy them again later.

  6. Thanks for the link! I wonder if the blossom colors change because there’s less sun, or maybe because it’s less intense?

Dave piles his clothes on top of his armoire, and you should see the stack up there. I’m always afraid it’s going to topple over and crash into the windowsill or mantel but it hasn’t happened yet!

We’re having the same issues with Daylight Saving Time. We have to remember that folks in the states are still on it but we’re not, as of Sunday.

    1. Steve:
SG is only allowed to pile his things in his office, and he understands. It’s a good balance between my borderline OCD and his borderline Hoarder (not really, I just didn’t want to say “slob”).

  7. Ah, yes, the short days of winter. My doctor advised me to drink more milk as I’m not going to get it any vitamin D from the sun for a while. I don’t like milk unless it’s the chocolate variety, so that’s what I’m drinking.

    1. Kirk:
I was just thinking the other day about how few people (no people) I know who drink plain milk. I haven’t heard it prescribed for adulta for the winter months.

  8. I look forward to being able to sleep in later when it is dark, and going to sleep earlier when it is dark. I am going through the dress shirts in my closet, I wear them, if they fit and I like them I keep them, if not – I toss them. I have eliminated about 1/3 of them so far.

    1. David:
I haven’t seen SG’s elimination pile. There’s a pile on the floor that need special spot treatment for cleaning.
