What now?

I’m doing OK. My foot wound hasn’t bled for two days, so maybe it will actually heel. Moose is doing well. He’s already eating dry food. When it comes to his medicine, he’s still not cooperating with San Geraldo (who is nearing his 19th nervous breakdown, I think). But he does manage to get some in his mouth.

Dudo’s behavior was odd this morning. He wasn’t waiting for treats nor did he come running when called. He’s so sensitive that I thought he was impacted by the trauma surrounding treat time for Moose. San Geraldo has separated medicine time from treat time to reduce the stress. Sadly, there’s more to Dudo’s behavior than that. He’s got some sort of growth around his anus — maybe an inflamed anal gland. We haven’t been able to get a good look. Rather than taking another cat to Emergency on a Sunday, we’ve decided to take him in Monday morning to our neighborhood vet (a 2-minute walk). There’s a pall over this household today.

No hemos podido verlo bien.

• San Geraldo baked apple cake the other day. No guilt. No reflux. So delicious.
Tan delicioso.
• San Geraldo’s lunch out yesterday. A sandwich made with organic, whole wheat pizza dough. He c0uldn’t eat it all.
• The two planters of crown of thorns are due for a trimming, a feeding, and some fresh soil.
• The desert rose continues to make me happy.
• Sweet Dudo. I will not think beyond the moment.
• Dulce Dudo. No pensaré más allá del momento.

  1. ‘They’ say things come in 3’s. Yes, stay in the moment is a good plan.
That Desert Rose almost brings a smile. And your Crown of Thorns!! OMG! I would NEVER show you ours…..planning to ‘bonsai’ it/tricky due to the thorns but will give it a go. It may do better with the constant care bonsai requires. Will see.
    Now take care.

    1. Jim:
I once saw an incredible bonsai crown of thorns. But that’s not one I’d attempt. We can’t believe our desert roses. Year-round joy.

  2. Well, you got Moose taken care of, and you’re on the mend, now you work on Dudo.
Sending good cat vibes your way!

    1. Bob:
Thanks. Dudo is all full of energy today. Eating well. Demanding attention. Playful. But there’s still that thing! Have an appointment with vet this afternoon.

  3. Crisis nerviosa. Yes.
Thank you for that Sunday morning Rolling Stone hymn, one of our favorites here at the Church of the Batshit Crazy.
May Dudo be okay and fine. I know that feeling of anxiety and worry when one of our babies is not well and we don’t know what it is.

    1. Ms. Moon:
We now think we know what it is which isn’t as bad as what we thought it might be. Still no fun for Dudo or us. Appointment with vet this afternoon. One of my other favorite songs of that type is Big Bright Green Pleasure Machine.

  4. I’m sorry for all this stuff that you’re dealing with all at once. I’m sure tomorrow your vet will be able to get Dudo taken care of and that will ease your mind. And Moose is doing better, too. Chin up! I’m certain everything’s going to work out okay. Dudo and Moose are lucky to be so well cared for!

Your flowers are beautiful. So bright and cheerful!

ps……I sent you an email just now with a question. Just fyi.

    1. J Barlow:
I responded to the message… finally. It’s been kind of a sucky month so far, but things will get better… or not. We all do what we can.

  5. Yes, yes, what J Barlow said… Dudo and Moose are indeed fortunate to have you and SG… such caring, loving parents. And, same thoughts on the flowers… they cheer me up and brighten my day to see, as does the news that your foot is healing nicely.
I’m all into the blossoming of daffodils and tulips, right now, and enjoying my last spring break before I retire at the end of this school year. We’re suddenly expecting really cold temps at night again, though… upper 20s, into the 30s (F)! What the heck!

    1. Judy C:
I do miss daffodils and tulips. We had so many of them in Connecticut. Color everywhere. The desert roses sure have been earning their place here. We’re in the mid-70s today. People swimming. I need to get outside and maybe just sit on the wall across the street. The one incision on my foot gets irritated when I wear my “special” shoe. It’s really annoying. Dudo wants to play right now!

    1. Mistress Borghese:
You’re right about Dudo. I thought because he was so lethargic yesterday he’d be easier to catch today. Nope. He’s running around like his old self. This will be interesting. We’ll have to find a time when he’s napping and sneak up on him.

  6. Mistress Borghese took the words right out of my mouth. Try not to stress about it today. Tomorrow will come soon enough. It might well be something a round of antibiotics can clear up. Just what SG wants, I know. Another round of giving meds!

    1. Kelly:
We think we know what it is and that’s not as bad as we thought it might be. Still no fun. And dudo today is acting like nothing’s wrong. A bundle of energy and happiness. (And therefore harder to catch.)

  7. Boud here to say my crown of thorns now lives permanently next door because I was sick of being attacked when I tended it.
Poor kitties, always something. SG has his hands full with the nursing duties all around, humans and cats.

    1. Boud:
We have a number of plants that attack Isabel. One attacks me. I keep the crown of thorns fairly tame so it doesn’t attack. Poor SG!

  8. It’s like a game of Whack-A-Mole around your house lately! I hope Dudu’s rump is easily fixed and his consumption of Moose’s medicine hasn’t contributed to him being “off”. Poor San Geraldo, he’s really gonna need a relaxing spa day after all his nursing duties are over, LOL!

    1. Tundra Bunny:
Although it doesn’t look good, a little research tells us it might not be as bad as we thought for Dudo. I might have to take over medication duties, though. There’s only so much San Geraldo should have to cope with.

    1. Kirk:
Thanks. It feels like everything everywhere all at once. But we’ve been through tougher times than this

    1. Sassybear:
Appointment with vet this afternoon. I’m thinking, although a pain, it may not be as serious as I thought yesterday.

  9. Sorry about the pall over your house. Hopefully things will get better soon. Look after that foot. I take it diabetics are not supposed to bleed like that.

    1. Shirley:
At this point, the foot isn’t “diabetically” concerning, but it has crossed my mind. It’s simply that the wound gets rubbed by the not wonderful special shoe and that doesn’t allow it to heel. So I’m spending more time shoeless and indoors.

    1. Urspo:
Although Dudo was miserable yesterday, he acts like there’s nothing wrong today. How quickly he adjusts.

    1. Walt the Fourth:
Maybe not as horrific as I first thought, but he’ll see the vet this afternoon. Those desert roses have given me more than a year of joy.

  10. Oh, no. I hope Dudo just has an anal gland that needs to be expressed. That’s a pretty simple fix.

    Love,
    Janie

    1. janiejunebug:
It had ruptured. But, you’re right. This so much better than it might have been.
