I spoke with The Kid Brother last night. No video. At the end, I said, “I’ll talk to you again next week. One of these days, we’ll see each other on video.” He responded, “I’ll try.” As if! His Sunday softball games in Central Park are finished for the season. His drug store (work) has settled down after the summer business. I said, “Next comes Halloween.” “That’s not a good holiday!” he snapped. “Nobody needs that stuff.!” “Well, I like the chocolate,” I said. “Not good for you!” he lectured. “And then come the turkeys,” I said. “Turkeys? We don’t have turkeys in the city!” I explained I was talking about chocolate turkeys like Dale used to buy us, but I then told him I thought there were wild turkeys in the city. I looked it up and it’s true. I told him they can even be found in Central Park where he plays softball. “Well, not where I play!”
It’s still warm and humid here, and San Geraldo and I are over it. Neither of us even left the house Tuesday. The cats are over it, too. They spend their days indoors and are not happy about it. When they insist on visiting the terrace, we stand by the door and wait. They rarely last more than 30 seconds.
Today was Isabel’s cleaning day which forced us to get out for coffee and second breakfast. Bless Isabel! Tynan stopped by for a quick visit before an appointment. And we then visited with a neighbor from our building who was there with her two adorable daughters, aged 9 and 6, and then with other regulars.
I had an appointment after coffee with my public health doctor to give her an update on my lab work and prescriptions. I still haven’t heard from public health nephrology. So I continue to pay for my special, expensive, prescription on my own. I sure hope I get a call for an appointment in September. On my way home I bumped into our downstairs neighbor who lives 9 hours away in León. We had a great visit. I wish they lived here year-round. So, it felt like a village today.
After spending almost the entire day in bed Tuesday, I had a burst of energy in the evening. I took laundry off the line and folded it all — including 17 handkerchiefs (plus the 10 I still hadn’t folded from last time). We have two screens in the terrace glass curtain to let the fresh air in and not the birds, and to keep the cats from visiting the neighbors (click here). The screens were so dusty we could barely see through them. I washed one in my shower last night and it looks great. I then cleaned the outside railing on the front of the terrace. That wore me out, so I saved the back screen and side railing for another day.
San Geraldo had his hair cut and then phoned me to meet for ice cream. We just got home. He had a large cup. I had a medium cup. That’s how it works every time. And every time he says, after the fact, “I didn’t need that large cup of ice cream.” He just told me I have his permission to tell him to have a medium cup the next time he orders. He also told me he’d probably get snotty but I should just ignore him. Great. It’s 8 p.m. and still warm and humid.
Anoche hablé con El Hermanito. No hubo video. Al final, le dije: —Hablaré contigo de nuevo la semana que viene. Uno de estos días, nos veremos en video. Él respondió: —Lo intentaré. ¡Como si fuera así! Sus partidos de softbol de los domingos en Central Park terminaron por esta temporada. Su farmacia (trabajo) se ha calmado después del negocio del verano. Dije: —Luego viene Halloween. —¡Esa no es una buena fiesta! —espetó. —¡Nadie necesita esas cosas!. —Bueno, a mí me gusta el chocolate. —le dije. —¡No es bueno para ti! —sermoneó. —Y luego vienen los pavos —dije. — ¿Pavos? ¡No tenemos pavos en la ciudad!
Le expliqué que estaba hablando de pavos de chocolate como los que Dale solía comprarnos para Acción de gracias, pero luego le dije que creía que había pavos salvajes en la ciudad. Lo busqué y es verdad. Le dije que incluso se pueden encontrar en Central Park, donde él juega sóftbol. —¡No donde yo juego!
Aquí todavía hace calor y hay humedad, y San Geraldo y yo ya lo hemos superado. Ninguno de los dos salió de casa el martes. Los gatos también lo han superado. Pasan los días dentro de casa y no les hace ninguna gracia. Cuando insisten en visitar la terraza, nos quedamos junto a la puerta y esperamos. Rara vez aguantan más de 30 segundos.
Hoy era el día de limpieza de Isabel, lo que nos obligó a salir a tomar un café y un segundo desayuno. ¡Bendita Isabel! Tynan pasó por aquí para una visita rápida antes de una cita. Y luego visitamos a una vecina de nuestro edificio que estaba allí con sus dos adorables hijas, de 9 y 6 años, y luego con otros clientes habituales.
Tenía una cita después del café con mi médico de salud pública para ponerla al día sobre mis análisis de laboratorio y mis recetas. Todavía no he tenido noticias de nefrología de salud pública, así que sigo pagando por mi cuenta mi receta especial y cara. Espero que me llamen para una cita en septiembre. De camino a casa me encontré con nuestro vecino de abajo, que vive a 9 horas de distancia en León. Tuvimos una gran visita. Ojalá vivieran aquí todo el año. Así que hoy me sentí como en un pueblo.
Después de pasar casi todo el día en la cama el martes, tuve una explosión de energía por la noche. Saqué la ropa del tendedero y la doblé toda, incluidos 17 pañuelos (más los 10 que todavía no había doblado de la última vez). Tenemos dos mosquiteros en la cortina de vidrio de la terraza para que entre el aire fresco y no los pájaros, y para evitar que los gatos visiten a los vecinos (haz clic aquí). Los mosquiteros estaban tan polvorientos que apenas podíamos ver a través de ellos. Lavé uno en la ducha anoche y se ve genial. Luego limpié la barandilla exterior en la parte delantera de la terraza. Eso me agotó, así que guardé la mosquitera trasera y la barandilla lateral para otro día.
San Geraldo se cortó el pelo y luego me llamó para quedar para tomar un helado. Acabamos de llegar a casa. Él pidió un vaso grande. Yo pedí un vaso mediano. Así es como funciona siempre. Y cada vez que lo hace dice, después del hecho, “No pedí ese vaso grande de helado”. Simplemente me dijo que tengo su permiso para decirle que se tome un vaso mediano la próxima vez que pida. También me dijo que probablemente se pondría malhumorado pero que debería ignorarlo. Genial. Son las 20:00 y todavía hace calor y humedad.
