I spoke with The Kid Brother last night. No video. At the end, I said, “I’ll talk to you again next week. One of these days, we’ll see each other on video.” He responded, “I’ll try.” As if! His Sunday softball games in Central Park are finished for the season. His drug store (work) has settled down after the summer business. I said, “Next comes Halloween.” “That’s not a good holiday!” he snapped. “Nobody needs that stuff.!” “Well, I like the chocolate,” I said. “Not good for you!” he lectured. “And then come the turkeys,” I said. “Turkeys? We don’t have turkeys in the city!” I explained I was talking about chocolate turkeys like Dale used to buy us, but I then told him I thought there were wild turkeys in the city. I looked it up and it’s true. I told him they can even be found in Central Park where he plays softball. “Well, not where I play!”
It’s still warm and humid here, and San Geraldo and I are over it. Neither of us even left the house Tuesday. The cats are over it, too. They spend their days indoors and are not happy about it. When they insist on visiting the terrace, we stand by the door and wait. They rarely last more than 30 seconds.
Today was Isabel’s cleaning day which forced us to get out for coffee and second breakfast. Bless Isabel! Tynan stopped by for a quick visit before an appointment. And we then visited with a neighbor from our building who was there with her two adorable daughters, aged 9 and 6, and then with other regulars.
I had an appointment after coffee with my public health doctor to give her an update on my lab work and prescriptions. I still haven’t heard from public health nephrology. So I continue to pay for my special, expensive, prescription on my own. I sure hope I get a call for an appointment in September. On my way home I bumped into our downstairs neighbor who lives 9 hours away in León. We had a great visit. I wish they lived here year-round. So, it felt like a village today.
After spending almost the entire day in bed Tuesday, I had a burst of energy in the evening. I took laundry off the line and folded it all — including 17 handkerchiefs (plus the 10 I still hadn’t folded from last time). We have two screens in the terrace glass curtain to let the fresh air in and not the birds, and to keep the cats from visiting the neighbors (click here). The screens were so dusty we could barely see through them. I washed one in my shower last night and it looks great. I then cleaned the outside railing on the front of the terrace. That wore me out, so I saved the back screen and side railing for another day.
San Geraldo had his hair cut and then phoned me to meet for ice cream. We just got home. He had a large cup. I had a medium cup. That’s how it works every time. And every time he says, after the fact, “I didn’t need that large cup of ice cream.” He just told me I have his permission to tell him to have a medium cup the next time he orders. He also told me he’d probably get snotty but I should just ignore him. Great. It’s 8 p.m. and still warm and humid.
Anoche hablé con El Hermanito. No hubo video.

• Moose quiere salir.

• Moose quiere volver. Dudo quiere salir.

• Dudo sale. Moose se confunde.

• Dudo quiere entrar.

• Moose todavía está confundido. Le dije que entrara y lo hizo.

You have the patience of a saint, MItchell! If it’s not KB, it’s the “little shits”! 🤣🤣🤣 Jx
Jon:
SOMETIMES I can be very patient. I have always tried to have a reserve of it for The Kid Brother. Other times, I feel like a cork ready to pop.
LOL! On both KB’s and Cats account!! Too funny!
…..on both counts!
Jim:
I AM looking forward to actually seeing The Kid Brother.
Boud here. It’s great for KB to have a brother who calls no matter what, such a security blanket, that knowledge.
The cats are something else. Always one wants the opposite of the other. It’s like herding, well, you know.
Boud:
Yes, herding cats. Such a perfect expression. I know my calls mean a lot to KB whether he tells me so or not.
Amazing what the little feet can do ! Hard to be mad at the cat as they are so adorable.
Granddaughter has been wanting a cat so this should be very interesting at the house.
It’s cold, rainy and windy here today. I had to put the heat on in my car when I went to Costco this morning.
Debra:
At this time of year, I fantasize about cold, rainy, and windy… and putting the heat on. There’s no end in sight to our heat and humidity. This unpleasant weather is very unusual for here on the beach.
I love the faces on The Boys as they wait somewhat patiently at the door!
We had nice cool weather for over a week and now we’re back to the sweta and the heat and the stupidity, er, humidity!
Bob:
The boys are fairly patient because they know I always meet their demands. Moose might meow at the door. Dudo might tap on it.
Sounds like it’s much like there as it is here. Not fit outside for man nor beast nor old woman either.
My cats love to stretch out on the back porch for naps but then they come inside to nap some more in the air conditioning. They want what they want when they want it.
As do we.
Oh, Kid Brother! I know you love him and I know he drives you crazy. I like what Liz (Boud) said. She’s right, I’m sure.
Ms. Moon (sigh…)
Ms. Moonsigh:
The cats are in charge… and so is The Kid Brother. And, yes, we definitely love each other and I love the stories he provides.
With those pussies ever around, ‘dull’ moments just don’t exist.
Raybeard:
They really are a joy. Moose becomes more affectionate as he gets older. Do NOT leave him alone in a room.
It does feel like village life — lovely to have folks to see and spend time with.
I remember the “Dudo escapes!” blog post! Wow!
Judy C:
If we would leave the glass curtain open now, I’m sure Dudo would be right back up there.
You could get KB to tell SG that “Nobody needs that stuff.!” its “Not good for you!” the next time he orders a large ice cream. My first thought was that KB was channeling your mother (or my mother.). They haunt us like that, you know.
David:
KB HAS told SG many times. He doesn’t hold back. And he’s the only one who can get away with saying those things to SG. He’s been known to say when SG reaches for something: “Uh uh uh!” It doesn’t work.
My eyes are too fuzzy to read the small print this morning so I’ll comment on what I can see, sort of.
Clean screen and hot cats sounds like a band from the forties.
Dudo and Moose look like they’re reenacting the mirror schtick from I Love Lucy with Harpo Marx.
My last two teeth may be getting pulled this morning. I also have a consult as to what to do with the gaping hole that will be my mouth. Neither of which is covered by my insurance.
I promise to come back and read this post if and when the old eyesight improves or whenever I find my magnifying glass. Hugs, Scoot.
Deedles:
Oh, I’m happy to read to you. Can you not zoom in? Do you read on your mobile phone? That IS small. “Clean screen, hot cats” reminds me of a Billy Joel Song. Oh wait. That was ”cold beer, hot nights.” Same beat.
In and out, in and out. And here I thought that was just a dog thing. Yes, I’m over the heat and humidity, too.
Kelly:
Definitely a cat thing, too. When we watch TV, I sit next to the door so I don’t have to get up to let them in or out. I try but I lose count of how many times I open and close it for them.
The cats have trained you well! Good for you persevering with KB. Wishing you less humidity…Olivia
Olivia:
The cats are exceptional trainers, while I insisted I was in charge. Our temps have been much lower than so many places as has the humidity, but the days (and even nights) have been surprisingly unpleasant. I guess more so because it’s so unusual for here.
I’ve been catching up on my blog reading. That guy from the elevator sounds like a real jerk. I can empathize with you about the humidity too. We had about five days of low humidity, but now it is back with a vengeance. Upper 90s and high humidity. I walk Shirley early in the morning, but by the time I get back, I am covered in sweat! It is miserable out there. All I can say is thank goodness for AC!
Michael:
Yes! Thank goodness for AC. I don’t know how people are surviving without it.
I see that the first photo is taken from the outside, the rest on the inside. Moose, at least, wants to be on the side you’re on.
Kirk:
I often sing Me and My Shadow with Moose.
Chuck has an answer for everything, doesn’t he? I love your Chuck stories even though I know he drives you crazy sometimes (and probably would drive me crazy, too) but he’s so funny. 🙂
You have such a wonderful view.
Jennifer:
Oh, yes. Chuck has an answer for everything. And usually the answers make me laugh.
It has finally started to cool down here, but we are still getting the occasional spike to 80 degrees. Regardless, I am always cold because Jeffrey keeps it bitter cold in the house and he’s always warm. If it weren’t for my thermal socks and heated throws, I’d be a meat Popsicle.
Sassybear:
No longer in the 90s here recently but still high humidity and unpleasant. I liked it cold, SG like it warm, but we seem to have met in the middle in recent years.
