Sorry I didn’t post anything yesterday. The day was a bit hectic filled with quite a bit of nothing exciting. Still, I have stories to tell in the coming days.

I saw The Kid Brother Tuesday on WhatsApp video. I’ve had to phone him on his home phone recently because he hadn’t paid for his monthly mobile service. First, he said it was too expensive, and I thought, “Great, there’s another $40 a month out of our pockets.” Then he said ”It’s too much trouble,” and I thought, ”Is he just being a cheapskate?”

So, I wrote to the office manager and assistant, told them the problem, and asked if he could not in fact afford it. I never did receive a response, but this week he initiated a video chat with me and said he paid the bill Monday (with the assistant manager).

Two weeks ago, you might remember, he told me accusingly that he had no cable TV. “You better pay that!” he snapped. “I pay it on time every month, wise guy,” I responded. As I instructed, he unplugged the box and plugged it in again. He said it still didn’t work. The following week, he told me it was the TV and not the cable box. I told him to talk to “the office.” He did. They checked, and they told him it was the cable box, and not the TV — and they would call the cable company.

I’m exhausted just telling you about him. But at least we got to see each other again, and it was a pleasure. He even surprised me by sharing the information that he received another hand-colored card from Mary (she sends him one every week). Or as he put it, “you know, that artist one.” Sorry, Mary, he doesn’t do proper names. I haven’t heard him say my name since he was maybe 12.

Lo siento, no publiqué nada ayer. El día fue un poco ajetreado lleno de nada emocionante. Aún así, tengo historias que contar en los próximos días.

Vi El Hermanito el martes en el video de WhatsApp. Recientemente tuve que llamarlo al teléfono de su casa porque no había pagado su servicio móvil mensual. Primero, dijo que era demasiado caro, y pensé: “Genial, hay otros $40 por mes de nuestros bolsillos”. Luego dijo: “Es demasiado problema”. Y pensé: “¿Está siendo un tacaño?”.

Entonces, les escribí a la gerente y a la subgerente de la oficina, les conté el problema y les pregunté si de hecho no podía pagarlo. Nunca recibí una respuesta, pero esta semana El Hermanito inició un chat de video conmigo y dijo que pagó la factura el lunes (con la subgerente).

Hace dos semanas, tal vez recuerde, me dijo de manera acusadora que no tenía cable por televisor. “¡Será mejor que pagues eso!” él chasqueó. “Lo pago a tiempo todos los meses, hombre”, le respondí. Como le indiqué, desenchufó la caja y la volvió a enchufar. Dijo que todavía no funcionaba. A la semana siguiente, me dijo que era el televisor y no el decodificador. Le dije que hablara con “la oficina”. Él hizo. Verificaron y le dijeron que era el decodificador de cable y no el televisor, y que llamarían a la compañía de cable.

Estoy exhausto solo contándote sobre él. Pero al menos nos volvimos a ver y fue un placer. También me sorprendió al compartir la información de que recibió otra tarjeta coloreada a mano de Mary (ella le envía una cada semana). O como él lo dijo, “ya sabes, esa artista”. Lo siento, Mary, él no hace nombres propios. No lo he oído decir mi nombre desde que tenía unos 12 años.

Las fotos de hoy son simplemente más cosas para poner los ojos en blanco. El tipo de la foto de arriba ha superado a San Geraldo y su paño de cocina de IKEA (haz clic aquí).
