Before I go go / Antes que me voy (voy)

I don’t know how quickly I’ll come out of my drugged stupor to be able to write again. I hope it’s soon. We’ll head to hospital at 1:45 p.m. (in 39 minutes). The hospital phoned me yesterday to confirm everything. The neurosurgeon phoned me last night to see how I was doing! He said he’s expecting my surgery to only take 2-1/2 to 3 hours, but it won’t begin until around 5. Poor San Geraldo has the worst of it. A lot of waiting.

When I told you about my new cologne yesterday, I didn’t mention that I don’t use deodorant and instead spray the cologne under my arms. When I perspire, I smell like my cologne. A trick I learned in the ’70s (that works for me).

Dinner at Mesón Salvador last night with Nick and Alyson could not have been better. Filled with love and laughter. And the staff were kind and supportive when we said good-night. Manager, Anderson, an especially kind and charming person, wrote me a note to take with me that will be a lifelong keeper. The first two photos were part of my last-supper-until-my-next-supper. Alcohol was out of the question. San Geraldo suggested a non-alchoholic gin and tonic. This time it was Tanqueray. I even had a placebo-effect buzz. SG and I ended with a creamy cake of sorts with a Lotus (brand name) biscuit on top. Possibly the best dessert we’ve had at Mesón Salvador — and that’s saying a lot. And, no, we didn’t share.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words and the warm thoughts. I hope to be able to read and blog from hospital fairly soon. Keep a good thought for San Geraldo.

.

Y no, no compartimos.

  1. Mitchell! Since I have been in Japan, I have not checked blogs. I was just catching up on yours when I read of your surgery. Of my gosh! I wish you a speedy recovery. As I write this, early Friday morning, you may already be out of surgery. Take care, and rest when you can. And don’t worry about the bedpan!

    1. Mcpersonalspace54,
Never had a bed pan, but it would have been an impossibility with the condition of my back.

  2. Jitterbug! You put the boom boom into my heart because I love you so much! I know everything will be fine. I’ll be so happy when we hear from you. For now I’ll dream of you sending me a big serving of that dessert.

    Love,
    Janie

  3. You’re in my thoughts today, Mitchell — I’ve rubbed my bunny feet to wish you luck and a speedy recovery!

  4. Tanqueray has a no-alcohol gin?! I had no idea. I’ll be thinking of both of you during your procedure and anxiously awaiting news!

  5. I imagine by now the surgery is done. I hope everything went well and you’re resting comfortably! We’ll all be waiting for the good word from you. Hugs.

  6. Thinking of you and SG. May the all the love of friends and family lift you both up and may you have a quick recovery. xo

  7. That’s a fun song I haven’t heard in ages. I was looking for the Asia song in yesterday’s post, but it might not be one you know.

If the time difference is what I’m thinking (I’ll know when this posts), you’re in surgery now! 🙏🏼 Thinking of you AND of SG. I hope you’ll be back soon, pain free!

p.s. I hate a man bun and that’s a pitiful attempt at one.

    1. Shirley,
SG has been on his own… with lots of calls and messages and offers from friends.

  8. That GIN and TONIC looks very refreshing!!!! And now we will wait for you to return…take your time, we will be here thinking of you with well wishes and love. If you need a sponge bath , just call dear.

  9. If you’re reading and understanding this, you’re out of both surgery and that drugged state you mentioned. I hope everything went well.

Please share your thoughts...
