Bloom, cats, scruffy / Florece, gatos, desaliñado

La versión en español está después de la versión en inglés.

I’ve been a bit under the weather — although the weather has been summer-like. I’ve still been getting out most days. Minimal stretching and exercise though. I plan to make up for some of that today.

We’re meeting two English friends for lunch at 1. I was up at 6, gave the cats their first treats so they wouldn’t wake up San Geraldo (who usually does it), and then went back to bed until 10.

The terrace and hall are ready to welcome spring. There are nine flower stems on the aloe vera. The African spear is filled with dense buds. A euphorbia on the terrace is covered with its little green flowers and then there are the desert roses. Not only are the blooms glorious, but every single stem on both plants has buds. March 3 will be a year of blooming. I guess they’re skipping their dormant season.

I’ve shared a photo from SG’s birthday dinner. An unflattering angle with foreshortening, but it will have to do. It’s nice to remember.

And now it’s time for me to trim my beard and shave my head. One of the friends we’re seeing never fails to tell me what she thinks, whether I ask for her opinion or not. I should go scruffy just to annoy her.

  1. I think it’s funny from the floor and the zoom lens you can still spy on the boys. And further down when I read the word foreshortening I thought it said foreskin. Where is my mind at these days?

    1. Mistress Borghese,
We always hope to get the cat’s attention when we’re down below but it never happens. And speaking of foreskin… oh, that’s a story that will have to wait for an in-person meeting!

  2. Go as you feel comfortable going. I’d have to be mindful of stepping out onto the terrace first thing in the morning, I might scare more than the cats.

  3. Feels like spring with all the buds and blossoms!
We won’t be seeing any blossoms/shrubs/plants till all the snow melts……..maybe April!? lol

  4. Boud here, wonderful flowers starting up! I’d be inclined to slouch along to lunch just to troll the over-observant friend! But you’re nicer than I.

    1. Boud,
I should have just slouched along to lunch. This friend is too obsessed with appearances. However, I’d didn’t end up shaving my head nor around my beard. And SG wore a wrinkled shirts,

  5. Why do some people feel it appropriate to comment on others’ physical appearance? I’m at the point in my life where people just don’t say anything about the way I look which in itself speaks volumes.
Every time I see your beautiful desert rose, I think of the Larry McMurtry book with that name, “Desert Rose” about a Las Vegas showgirl beauty who is aging out of her career. It’s a sweet little book.
Looks like SG’s birthday celebration was a fine one.

    1. MaryMoon,
The birthday dinner was great. As for comments on physical appearance, I was surrounded by that with my immediate and extended family. So this friend reminds me of them. Very few kept their thoughts to themselves and the comments were rarely kind. And they themselves couldn’t take it as well as they dished it out. SG’s family was just the opposite.

  6. I think the dinner photo is great, I love seeing the terrace from the outside, and the various shades of blue in the first photo are very pleasing.

Do I detect a tiny bit of passive-aggresive behavior? 😉

  7. I have a chronic cough that won’t go away. But I think it’s something with dust rather than illness. I wasn’t too happy with my father-in-law when he told us he had covid recently after leaving us some stuff to pick up on his porch

    1. Adam,
We had a friend who would announce to us when we arrived for dinner at their house (and kissed in greeting) that she might have Covid, or a cold, or a stomach virus. Then one of her 2 kids would be sick and she wouldn’t tell us until we got there. Some people! Hope that cough goes away!

  8. Nice picture of the birthday dinner! And I liked the view of your terrace from outside — not sure we’ve ever seen that before. (Or maybe I’m just forgetting.)

    1. Steve:
I shared a photo of Dudo and Moose on the terrace before (once or twice). I can’t believe you don’t remember every photo I’ve shared. It’s only a few hundred a month!

    1. Sassybear:
I hadn’t noticed the three shiny heads. SG was so out of place.
