7 x 13 = 28

I enjoyed a morning at Mesón Salvador yesterday with San Geraldo, Maria, Christina and Alfonso. I bought Cristina a sticker book when we visited Colchester Castle in November (click here). I gave it to her to enjoy while we visited. Somehow, it became a joint project. The two of us simply had to do it together. I spent the rest of the day back in bed. I’m feeling so much better but I run out of steam very quickly. I might even go back to bed now until lunch.

Moose is doing well. Dudo is not completely healed and still has to wear his cone. He’s now got a cold as a result of the meds he was on.

I spoke with The Kid Brother Tuesday night. Mid-conversation, he reminded me I hadn’t logged his bowling scores for the week. I opened the spreadsheet and got ready.

“First game,” he began, “1-1-7.”

“117,” I repeated, “nice first game, and the second game?”

“Two-one-two.”

“212? Wow!!!”

“Listen!,” he demanded, “Two-one-two… one-one-two… one-two-two!”

Deep breath “Oh, one-two-two. 122?”

“That’s what I said!”

“So your total for the week is…”

He is able to add the two games together and says, “238.”

“117 and 122 make 239.”

“No. It’s 238. I just told you!”

“The second game was 122?”

“That’s what I said! What are you tryin’ to do?”

“Well, 117 plus 122 equals 239.”

“Would you cut that out?!? I told you it’s 238!”

“OK, Kid, first game is 117.”

“That’s right!”

“Second game?”

“Oh, here we go again!”

“Wait. Was the second game 1-2-1?”

“That’s what I’ve been tellin’ ya, knucklehead!”

“Who are you calling knucklehead? You told me 1-2-2!”

“Oh, one of these days!”

“So 117 and 121. A total of 238 and an average of 119.”

“That’s what I’ve been tryin’ to tell you, you nut!”

It’s no wonder I need a nap. The top photo shows the two of us in our early days wearing our thinking caps.

“117, ¿buen primer juego y segundo juego?”

“Dos uno dos.”

“¿212? ¡¡¡Guau!!!”

“¡Escucha!”, exigió, “¡Dos-uno-dos… uno-uno-dos, uno-dos-dos!”

Respira hondo “Oh, uno-dos-dos. ¿122?”

“¡Eso es lo que dije!”

“Así que el total de la semana es…”.

Puede sumar los dos juegos y dice: “238”.

“117 y 122 suman 239”.

“No. Son 238. ¡Te lo acabo de decir!”

“¿El segundo juego fue 122?”

“¡Eso es lo que dije! ¿Qué estás intentando hacer?”

“Bueno, 117 más 122 es igual a 239”.

“¿¡¿Podrías eliminar eso?!? ¡Te dije que son 238!”

“Bueno, chico, el primer juego es el 117”.

“¡Así es!”

“¿Segundo juego?”

“¡Oh, aquí vamos de nuevo!”

“Espera. ¿El segundo juego fue 1-2-1?”

“¡Eso es lo que te he estado diciendo, tonto!”

“¿A quién llamas tonto? ¡Me dijiste 122!”

“¡Oh, uno de estos días!”

“Entonces 117 y 121. Un total de 238 y un promedio de 119”.

“¡Eso es lo que he estado tratando de decirte, loco!”

No es de extrañar que necesite una siesta. La foto superior muestra a los dos en nuestros primeros días usando nuestras gorras para pensar.

  1. “Did you go to school stupid?”
“Yes, and I come out that way, too.”
    aie aie aie aie aie

Watching this video made me cringe… and, now I know where our kids’ parents and grandparents learned to bully kids they thought were slow –ha! Terrible… funny… but, terrible 🙂 And, I love Abbot and Costello… but, I’m looking at this kind of thing with fresh eyes, and … ouch.

    1. Judy C:
I had the same reaction as you this time when I watched the video. I cringed when he said “Did you go to school, stupid?” That’s the way my father spoke to us (Dale and me; he managed to control himself with Chuck).

  2. You and the Kid Brother are a RIOT!! These conversations could be syndicated.
    Thanks for the morning laugh!
    Hope you feel stronger soon.

    1. Jim:
KB asked what I was doing when I finished the bowling spreadsheet, I told him I was just fixing something. I was actually making quick notes of our conversation.

    1. Bob:
We did Who’s On First last week… legitimately. Stay outa the infield!

  3. Glad to hear you are feeling better, get strong, the cats and the kid brother need you.

  4. Boud here, trying to make heads or tails of the bowling scores. Though anyone who gets into triple digits has this duffer’s admiration.
Sorry you’re still flagging, but I’m glad you’re free to rest when you need to.

    1. Boud:
Yes, it’s good to be able to go back to bed whenever I want… and I want a lot. The Kid Brother has bowled in the 200s.

  5. Oh, that kid brother! His brain works like no one else’s, doesn’t it? And it makes perfect sense to him. Y’all were a most darling pair.
Rest when you need to. Be like a cat.

Often, my brain hurts after our conversations. But we do laugh a lot, too. I think I’ve been sleeping more than the cats lately.

    1. Mistress Borghese:
Join the club. I usually get off our calls and yell, “My brain hurts!”

    1. finlaygray:
He’s doing really well. Still hates Dudo’s cone. Dudo is depressed and a bit less sneezy.

    1. Urspo:
I do have a laugh when I jot down our conversations and read them back.

  6. Ha! You guys are hilarious. At least from this far remove. 🙂

LOVE the picture! I’m seeing the sign in the background — was it a Boy Scouts event?

    1. Steve:
I think that was summer vacation 1963 and I can’t for the life of me remember where it was. The tri-corner hats had something to do with it.

  7. Your conversation with your brother reminded me of “Who’s on First?” I performed that with a colleague of mine at a teacher talent show years ago. It was hard to do! A lot of memorization. I am glad your cats are on the mend albeit slowly.

    1. mcpersonalspace54:
Who’s On First is a routine we do almost weekly. I’d be happy to perform it with you at the next talent show.
